  3. I was released yesterday. thanks for all the warm thoughts and prayers. God is GOOD!

  4. Is it normal to not be excited and consumed with worry before surgery? I have been a blubbering fool worried about all of the what "ifs" related to complications, even though I have an excellent surgeon and a designated 1A hospital. I am worried about the anastesia and of course the possibility of not returning home to my kid. Any words of encouragement?

    Dr. Gregory Dakin?

were you approved and sleeved by Dr. Dakin? if so, what was your experience, particularly with the pc?
  17. I have UHC- empire plan. After visiting a number of surgeons, attending a plethora of wls support groups, I thought I finally found a wls surgeon that I wanted to proceed with. I went to my 1st mtg prepared with 6 month notes of weigh ins and diet attempts from my primary care dr. To my dismay and shock, the patient coordinator told me that the notes would not get me approved for the sleeve. This was perplexing as the notes indicate my health problems. I have done 1 year of weigh ins. the pc stated that I needed to detail food logs and nutrician plans and more information. this patient coordinator explained that I would have to do 6 month vistis with the nutritionist- basically weigh ins all over again! I dont mind seeing the nut; in fact, i welcome this. However, it would be the same price if i go to see the nut once or 10 times, so why make me go through this process again? then to add insult to injury, the pc will not provide me with a real sample template. I feel defeated. anyone with some suggestions? maybe pointers on the letters they submitted?

  20. Hello I see and hear great results related to wls from folks that are up to 8 years post op, but it is unsettling to not be able to read or hear from folks that have 15-20 years of wls experiences. I am starting to wonder, do they even exist? I know that wls procedures have changed over the years, but can anyone out there w/ longevity share some info? I have a two year old to live for and I need to know that a wls procedure wont cap my lifespan.
  21. ahhh, I remember the size 12 days. You are maybe 15 pouunds away from your goal of 12-14, so you will be there soon. thank you for the feedback. My next step is finding someoene with 15-20 years post op. I see and hear great results related to wls from folks that are up to 8 years post op, but it is unsettling to not be able to read or hear from folks that have 15-20 years out. I am starting to wonder, do they even exist? I know that wls procedures have changed over the years, but I have a two year old to live for and I need to know that I will be ok, even with sucessful weightloss.

  22. happy new year jlg.you look fabulous. Something inspired me to look at your page and I see that you are a soror. I need some real sisterly advice. I was always overweight but after 100lbs weight gain during pregnancy, I am at a dangerous weight of 265.I have a consultation with a surgeon in a couple of weeks. The problem is that I do not know anyone personally that has experienced the lap band. I have been reading some discouraging things related to lap bands and low success rates, which has led to gastric bypass consideration. I never thought I would actually contemplate gbp but I just worry that if I opt for the lapband, I will not loose the 100 pounds that is recommended.

  23. Hello all. I attended my first step today which was the informational at st. lukes hopsital in NYC. After hearing the pros and cons of WLS I think the lapband is the safest. I am concerned that I wont be able to loose 100 pounds w/ lapband. They said about 50% of the desired weight loss. Any thoughts? success stories?
