  1. Hey there, I was also banded by Dr. Garth Davis my surgery was 3/6/09. How is everything going for you so far? Have you been to any of the support groups at UGH? I havent but would like to go, I need to find out when the next on is.

  2. Oh my goodness 70Lbs, you are doing awesome!!! Well I came across your post and I noticed your surgery weight was the exact same as my surgery weight. I can't believe you have lost 70lbs already, that is such an inspiration. I was banded on March 6th, and was wondering if you can give me some pointers, I think you are doing awesome! I know the pizza thing is probably not so good, but you must be doing something right. hurray for you on doing such a great job!

  3. The liquid diet is going OK so far, but wow the cravings I have are crazy. Everytime I see my family eat, I just want to have one bite!!!!! Lucky you, I would love a variety in my diet right now. I can't remember if I told you my dr. started letting me have broth and my shake but absolutely nothing else. I'm on the 5th day of my liquid diet.

Good move on dinner last night, you shouldnt have to have so much temptation. I do because it's for my kids they are little still so I wouldnt be able to do that.

You are so lucky to have support with your co-workers, I'm a stay at home mom so I have been using lap-band talk for support. My couisins wife also had lap-band, and she did call me today to see how I was doing, so that was nice, she gave me lots of tips.

When I heard your insurance will pay for a tummy tuck I was shocked, but then I called my ins today to check and they said yes they would. I have a long way to go, but It's nice to know I have that option. Thanks for the info.

  4. When I first started talking about getting the lap-band back in July, my husband was against it. He said I needed to have more willpower and do it on my own. We went to the seminar together and he lectured me all the way home how I should be more strong and lose weight on my own. By the way my weight is an issue for him, he has never made fun of me or insulted me but in a serious conversation a year and half ago he told me my weight bothered him, because I never wanted to go out with him or to his work functions. I think now he is secretly happy, although he doesn’t say much. When I ask him how he feels he always says if you’re happy I'm happy and that's the end of it he doesn’t say anything else. My complaint is I am on the 2 week liquid diet and he doesn’t try to help me with meals, he doesn’t understand how hard this liquid diet is. I have been preparing all the meals, because he says that's my responsibility. Yes I am a stay at home mom and I do feel like it is my responsibility but right now should be an acception. I hear other people talk about how their husbands are helping them thru this stage and I secretly get a little jealous. I must also say in my hubby's offense my surgery is scheduled for March 6 and my hubby said he is taking the day off to be with me. I told him I didnt want him too that my mom would take care of me, but he insisted. I didnt want him to have to tell his boss why he needed the day off. I also think my mom will be more helpful than he is. I'm not trying to sound ungrateful please don't get me wrong but he is definately not the nurtering type poor thing he tries but doesnt know what to do. I love him though!!!

Wow Katie that's a long wait. I have also noticed that the office is very busy, that's been the hard part on me, because I have a baby and time is precious. I got my surgery date today it's going to be March 6th. I am excited! I was a little unhappy with the way the ins lady treated me, but the surgery coordinator Tricia is very sweet and helpful too. I'm sure the ins. lady is just very busy. I have to start the 2 week diet in about a week, I'm a little nervouse I will only be allowed 5 shakes a day for 2 wks. No food! Hopefully I will be too excited to think about food. Good Luck Katie Sue, and everyone else also.

Hi Waiting4, I also have Aetna but I have Aetna HMO Feds (my hubby works for the USPS). I am covered 100%, but you need to call your ins co., because I think it depends on what exclusions your job has. Even though we may have the same ins, each employer puts different exclusions. This is what I was told. When you go to dr. Davis office his ins dpt should be able to help, but if I was you I would call the ins myself it's faster than waiting around for them to call you.

Hi Katie Sue, No Dr. Garth did not push the RNY, I told him I wanted the lap-band and he was very supportive. He said he sees more results with the RNY, but for the amount of weight I have to lose he was comfortable doing the lap-band. I am 5'7 and at the consultation visit weighed 272lbs. I really didnt talk to him very long, my appt was almost a week after hurricane Ike and he mentioned his house still didnt have lights. He seemed in a rush, but I don't want to judge him being without lights for almost a week was probably taking a toll on him. Since that was the first time I met him I'm not for sure what he is really like. I hear mostly positive things about him. Yes I did chose University General. I think his office is really busy, but I guess that means he is a good Dr.

Hi Katie Sue, I'm so excited for you. I finally received a call saying I was approved and that someone will contact me within a week to let me know what the next step is. So I guess within a week I will know my surgery date (crossing my fingers). If you go to University General for your Nutrition visits and Psych you will be very pleased. Kathryn Lito the nutritionist is a sweetheart. They have free valet parking, and the check-in staff is really nice. So far I am so pleased with everything about that hospital. Thanks for the reply, and please let me know how your consult visit goes. Good Luck!

Hi, I was wondering how things are going for you w/Dr. Davis office. I have been to the first consult, I want to get the lap-band surgery. I wanted to ask you if you have been to his office yet? I finished all my psych & nutrition classes and have been approved as of last friday. The only problem is I have called his office and sent an email w/no response. I wonder am I being impatient or being ignored. I am growing a little impatiant and need some feedback. Thanks!!!!!
