  1. I can't stand the chewable vitamins either. I've been taking gummy bear vitamins (doc said it was ok) and they are much better. I really have to chew, chew, chew, but it's worth it--I get my vitamins and a sweet-tooth fix at the same time! :scared2:
  2. Dr. MacColl did my lapband surgery in May of this year. He is wonderful!! I was never rushed at an appointment, he always answered all of my questions very thoroughly, and his entire staff is extremely caring. Phone calls are always promptly returned on the rare occasion I don't get to speak to his nurse right away when I call. I can't recommend him or the staff at Altru high enough. Janet, the bariatric coordinator, is wonderful. Shellie, the PA who does the fills, is a hoot. I feel so blessed to have them on my team during my weight-loss journey.
  3. Hello! I'm having my surgery on May 26. I'm currently looking for a job and am wondering if anyone calls me for an interview (please, someone, call!), how long after surgery would I be back-to-normal enough to do well at an interview, like walking around and sitting/standing up without looking like I'm in pain? Thanks for any information or suggestions!

    Starting Up

Hi! I am from Fargo and will also be having surgery with Dr. MacColl. I completed my 3 month pre-op diet and am just waiting for insurance approval so I can get my surgery date. I'm hoping it will be around the same time as yours!
  8. I've tried the Unjury and it it is FABULOUS! It tastes super yummy and mixes up the best of any powder I've tried. Their customer service is outstanding, too.
  9. I had a similar situation around an "elective" surgery for my son. He needed a cyst removed by his eye; he was 14 months old at the time. My employer was giving me a hard time about taking time off any time during the upcoming two months, which were June and July. By the time I was able to take time off and he had surgery in August, the cyst was so large the surgeon was even shocked. That is the biggest regret I've ever had--allowing my employer to influence a health decision. I would encourage your wife to stand up for her health needs and keep her surgery date.

    Any North Dakotans out there?

Thanks Bobbie! If you wouldn't mind, I would love to hear about your day of surgery. Was the hospital staff just as wonderful as everyone else? How was recovery for you? Any big surprises no one told you about? I'm getting really excited. I'm down 8.5 pounds on my pre-op diet (supposed to lose 13) and I'm getting kinda impatient to get the band already. I'm excited to hear about your experience!

Ovarian cysts bloat and the band

Hi! I had an ovarian cyst burst this past November. It was SO painful and I was so sick, they were literally prepping me for surgery to have my appendix out. They did a CT scan to make sure it was appendicitis, and they saw the remains of the burst cyst instead. My doctor put me on Nuvaring continuously (no skipping a week to have a period--darn ) because he said it will help keep the cysts away and it's really compatible with the Lap Band. That has helped tremendously with the bloaty feeling and I haven't had anymore pain. Good luck with everything! I hope you and your doctor can find something that works wonderfully for you!

    Any North Dakotans out there?

After having to reschedule my consultation appointments because of our lovely blizzard a couple weeks ago, I finally had all four of them yesterday and passed! I was very happy that each person told me at the end of each appointment that I was good to go. I'm not a very good wait-er ). I was given the go-ahead to start my 3-month pre-op diet for insurance purposes, and I meet with my surgeon Dr. MacColl this coming Thursday (as long as there isn't another blizzard!). I am so impressed with everyone at Altru--everyone has been SO helpful and caring. It's definately worth the drive!

    Any North Dakotans out there?

Hello! I'm from Fargo and am going to Altru in Grand Forks because of my insurance. I have 4 appointments there tomorrow, and I meet with Dr. McColl next week. If anybody else is getting ready to go through surgery in the near future, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks!

    No Birth Control before surgery

I saw my doctor last week and he switched me to the nuvaring since I'll (hopefully) be having surgery soon. He said it was the best option for bariatric surgery. Anybody else hear anything about that?
  15. Hi all! After a bunch of online research, I finally got the lap band process started this week. I learned what my insurance company needs, and I attended an information meeting (just tonight!) at the hospital I plan to use. Reading over the posts on this site is so inspiring and I don't feel so alone, or like I have too many "dumb" questions. Thanks!
