Bummed i have only lost 25 pounds in 3 yrs
aloudwhisper replied to HAGS2121's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey! Just wanted to check on with you. How are things going? -
Well I'm starting from scratch, and there is plenty of room on this journey if you want to join me. This process is not an easy one. We have surgery, because we felt like we needed help, but the power lies in your abilities. You were able to loose the weight, and with God's help as before you can do it again. I wish I could be able to say I lost 117 pounds, but none the less you did, and those 60 can come off easy. I was told to pretend that you just had the surgery and go back to the basics. I am doing all that I can to keep the starches out of my mouth and my mind. I have plans for this body, and my season is now. Right now. So is yours. I am here if you want a partner.

how long is too long to start over?
aloudwhisper replied to aloudwhisper's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes I'm loving you all ready They don't have trader Joe's in Birmingham I've been here for nearly 2 years now. So I have to work with the stores available. I am going to either go to Vitamin Shoppe or Whole Foods. Cause I have to find some good products. The one I have is good, it's just got too much flax or something in it, man it bills up too much for me. I have to use half a scoop, and sometimes that's still too much. I like adding spinach and other fruits to my shake. I had a great workout tonight, and I decided to end the day with a shake. I stomach is kinda hurting. I had some yogurt, but I don't know if that's enough. The last time I waited too long to eat and my stomach was hurting, my band locked up on me. That's when everything went downhill. I had no one to talk to, so I thought something was wrong with the band. I didn't have the right people around to educate me. With no insurance, my fear would creep up when ever I started eating band friendly. I'm covered now though. -
I am almost 5 years out, but I have had so many ups and down. Trying to stay positive in spite of the odds against me. Do you think this band still works? Has anyone fell off after so long?

That's what I am talking about. Where have you been I really needed to hear this. I need you in my life. I am trying yo do all protein. I don't know what my body is doing, cause its rejecting most of it. I think it may also have something to do with my all natural products. I am trying to leave the artificial sweeteners alone. I am right where you are. I said I want to really give this band my all before I consider the sleeve. This is my year to do this. Thank you so much. Oh I appreciate everyone else's encouragement. But I wanted to hear from someone that completely started over after so time. I know I have to do all the other stuff, but in my mind I was worried that I couldn't do it. I know that's wrong, but I am so defeated and tired. I can't even sleep at night I am so worried about loosing weight -

Thanks I want to. Im trying to. I just wonder does it really work as much as it did years later. I only had one issue ever with my band, and that scared the hell out of me. It got so tight I choked off my own salvia. But nothing else since. I was scared to get it really tighten without insurance, because of the fear of being hospitalized again. I have insurance now, so I am going for it now. I tried having only fluids, but for some reason in was nauseous. So I am just keeping the starches away, and no real carbs other than the ones from fruit. -

I am doing everything to start fresh. I want to remain positive. I know that its important for me to communicate with blasters to ensure my success. I don't want to make up a lot of excuses for my plight. I am trying to get into counseling. I need to find a nutritionist that has weekend sessions. As I said I I I can do this, and im trying to do everything. I understand that people start from scratch everyday, but how many people banded do? I wanted to know that I wasn't alone. -
Band, Bypass or Sleeve in 2014: Which one?
aloudwhisper replied to Dr-Patient's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think there are some that see the positive spirit in the post, while other want to take everything as an attack. -
How are you doing?
-
Its truly a day by day process. I was thinking about some junk an hour ago. I started drinking water and try to focus on my work and time passed. I have to remember how bad I need this weight off. I also have some nuts in my desk to hild me until I get home.
-
Alright now! I love the things you are saying. There are always pros and cons to starting over, but the wonderful thing about it is that you know where to start. Everyday we have the gift to begin again. Im doing my best to keep the carbs really low, and the starches and process foods out of my life. Not that I can't ever have them, but I need a serious break. There are parts of me that regret having thus surgery, but there is a whole lot that I can learn from this journey. We are not defeated. No we haven't gotten to our goal weight, but there are so many lessons we can obtain through this process. No wls is 100% successful, so there is always something to do and even more to learn. So what are you doing now to make this time better than the last?

Band, Bypass or Sleeve in 2014: Which one?
aloudwhisper replied to Dr-Patient's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't want it to die. There is some good info on this slide. I am a bander. I did 85% of everything I was suppose to, and I still didn't loose the weight. I have tried not to be discouraged. I've given up many times, but now I am trying again. I hate that I have to pay out of love for maintenance, but it is what it is at this point. Im very open to having the sleeve, but at this point I want to wait until after I have children. So until then I am going to try to stay positive. I know I didn't do the detailed reservation that I should have pre surgery, and that wasn't smart at all. But I'm happy to say that I haven't had all the issues that most people have had, but it still hasn't worked as well. I have had a lot of fluid taken out because I couldn't keep the food down. But things aren't was bad this go round with the fills. I guess time has taught me how to better handle my band. I wouldn't recommend the band, but that's just me. -
Band, Bypass or Sleeve in 2014: Which one?

I am a banders, and I still appreciate your insight. Thanks -
I was banded in Nov. Of 2008. Its truly been a struggle for me. I am trying to stay positive, but it hasn't been easy. At times I feel like I failed the band, and other times the band failed me. I have only been about to keep off the 10 of the 60 pounds I lost. I had to have my fluid removed once, and things weren't the same after. I got so tired of that stuck feeling. But I have decided to give it one last try. I just began a job with benefits. I have about 3.5ccs left in my band. So I will see what happens then.
-
Hey! I had my band done in Nov of 2008. I had to respond to you, cause I want to connect with someone that was banded around the time that I was. I have had my own issues with my weight. I didn't get pregnant, but I have been unfilled. Im am slowly working my way tighter. I would love to give you some support, cause I could sure benefit myself. Today I decided to do full liquids, but ended up having to have a salad. I guess I will just restrict the starches. Cause full like only is not working out as I thought it would. I know its also a mental thing.

I need to get back on track! Need to talk and get motivated.
aloudwhisper replied to ulssup's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded in 2008. I have truly struggle. I lost close to 60 pounds, before gaining 50 back. I started getting refilled recently, and my plan is to start back on full liquids. I know that will also assist in tightening my band. I had a small fill to assist as well. We can do this. I am here if you need support. -
I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP
aloudwhisper replied to Tabithan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too was banded in 2008. And just like you I have had so many issues. I feel like there was a lot about the band I didn't know. I didn't know about getting stuck, and after I was in the emergency room dehydrated, I was done with the band. I was tired of throwing up. However, when I look back I realize that there were times that I was trying to eat the wrong foods when I was stuck. I myself can't totally blame the band. I was good 85% of the time. I exercised and did my best to eat right. But when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, everything went downhill. Its been nearly two years since my mom died. I relocated to care for my special needs brother, I had to find a job and it took nearly one year. I got married and its been a serious adjustment. Parts of me feels like I got married too fast after the death of my mom, because I was struggling with the bitterness of her leaving me. But through it all I'm getting back on track. Im still married in spite of the odds against us, and I have started getting the fluid back in. I have a 10cc band, and I have nearly 7ccc in me. So as long as I have some room in this band I will give it my all. I started at 305. I lost nearly 60 pounds. I have gained most of that back, but I'm slowly loosing again. Im going back to the basics tomorrow and im praying for the best. I have a good job, and I'm happy. Well today I am :/ -
Band complications now getting rebanded 2/28/14
aloudwhisper replied to Ashley1781's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded in Nov. 2008. I started real slow. Most times I will go to the dr, they would not fill me. I wasn't educated on what to do. The support group at the hospital did not have banders in it at all. I thought it was going to be a piece of cake, but it was so hard. And my emotional eating made it harder. Sometimes I would want to eat things that was apart of my old life, only to have them stuck all the time. It took me about a year in a half to get my system going. That's when I had an issue with my band that caused it to get stuck. I couldn't keep down water. The emergency surgeon removed all my fluid. When I went back to my surgeon, they slowly started putting fluid back in, but no one educated me on this being a normal process. I felt so alone on the process. Then I asked to have fluid removed, because I was tired of throwing up when I ate. Not realizing that it was the wrong foods for my body. Well my fluid was almost all the way out, and the almost 60 pounds I lost was nearly back on. We are 3yrs later. My mother was dying, I lived so far away and i was in a international long distance relationship. Needless to say, I was unable to keep the weight off. After my mom died, I moved back home to take care of my disabled brother. My soon to be husband hesitantly moved here. He hated it for the first 6 mons and let me know everyday. I was stressed cause I didn't have a job, he didn't have a job. It was awful. No job, no insurance. What does someone that stress eats do... eat. So now its 2014, I have a new look on life and all things related to looking weight. I have a new job, but my insurance doesn't kick in until next month. I paid for my fill out if pocket, cause I have to get back on track. I hate that I have had this band for so many years and haven't lost more than 100 pounds, when I know it can be done. But I am determined to give this band my all before I decide on any thing else. I have some restrictions. Monday the plan is full liquids. Everyone talks about going to the basics. So that's the plan. My prayer is that I can do this. -
Well my plan is to do the protein. I will also add some spinach or kale to it. I have to find a way to stick to this. The last time I tried, I let life take control. I know stress is no reason for bad eating, and I have used up all my excuse life lines. I have to loose some serious weight before I got to the excuses again. I am planning to get all my veggies and things, because its got to go down. I will probably have a very small meal for dinner, mostly fish or chicken, and greek yogurt before hitting the gym. I have to do some cardio. My weight has truly gotten out of control, and I need to focus to get back on track.
-
So are you comfortable exercising on full liquids? I know its a mind thing. I will make this happened. I did this before. I know I can do it.
-
Thanks so much for this post. I lost my way years ago, and have had such a hard time finding it. I know that starting at the basics makes sense but for some reason I didn't want to. Well, I don't think I have a choice right now. I started at 305, in 2008 and I'm about 287 now. Something has got to change. I know what I need to do. So its time to make it happen. I am going to schedule a fill, but while I wait I am planning to start my full liquids Monday. I pray this works to tighten my band and get my weight down for good.
-
How has it been going since you started getting filled again? I have decided to start getting filled again, cause I have struggled since I was banded in November of 2008. The most I lost was 59, but when I had an issue with my band it was all downhill. I hope to turn things around for myself. I got this tool for a reason. I hope I can do better this go round.

I have the band, and I have been battling with it for so long. I know I haven't always done my part, but I never completely gave up on it. I feel like the band has not been the best for me. -
Why Did You Choose The Lap Band Vs. Gastric Bypass (Rny)
aloudwhisper replied to Boobear7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is awesome! Sometimes I wonder why I wasn't successful. I have just started meeting people that have been successful with the band. I am 4 years out, and my struggle has been constant since being banded. I don't know why its been so difficult for me. -
I know exactly what you're saying. Me too! I thought that I'd never change my mind about ever trying to start over but here I am. I'm going to try again after considering RNY. So why are you considering RNY over the others? I am thinking about the sleeve. I know that I seriously need help to get this weight off. I just thought that the band would really work for me. I use I need more restrictions than I thought.
