  1. I think you all have good points so far. I am also thinking that a lot of it has to do possibly with certain complications some doctors patients may have had in the past? I myself wonder about the varying degrees and approaches to the band diets pre and post op. For me it was maddening to read about such easy pre op diets some people had because mine was so severly strict. But I do believe that it was a good thing because it really helped me look at my relationship with food from a different perspective prior to banding. For me the band was not the only tool I gained from this whole experience. PSS tarajim how did you come up with your user name? I ask because my name is Tara and my husband's name is Jim. Thought maybe that was the case at your house too?
  2. HI everyone. Just checking in to see how you all are coming along since your surgeries on Tuesday! Mine went really well/ Was in and out in a couple hours and thanks to awesome pain meds I have been resting quite comfortably. The pain is not too bad so far. Doc has me on liquid diet stilll till at least Thanksgiving. I am feeling much better today and getting around better. I am pretty swollen still so I have what feels like restriction I guess. Its my first glimpse of what life will be like with the band and I am so excited !!!!!!!!! This is amazing that I feel full after just a little Soup and Water. Everythings getting cold before I can even get close to finishing it. What a trip  This is going to be quite a ride. I can't believe this really happened. Just three months ago I made up my mind to have Lap Band surgery and now here I sit with my band in place and sip sip sipping my water. Its all so unreal...someone pinch me! I hope all of you are recovering quickly and being well taken care of. I think we should all form a group for people banded on Nov 17th 2009....anyone game? I need a lap band buddy anyway and Im betting some of you do too
  3. I was banded yesterday too  I was so relieved when the pain turned out to be very mild. Im taking it easy today and just looking forward to mushies and my first fill. This is so exciting and at the same time it has all been a lesson in learning patience for me. My doc says he will get me properly adjusted by March or April!! So I definatley have a ways to go but its getting easier for me to constantly be waiting...I was never a really patient gal to begin with but this whole process has really taught me to be more so.

Large amt of protein in small portions?

Just keep the hot liquids under 130 degrees and then you can mix in the protien powder. Any hotter than that and you get the lumps. I got a cheap thermometer at the Mart and use it all the time. Now I get perfect moist chicken every time too and never have to worry if I have cooked it enough. No more over cooked dry anything. And its handy for mixing protien powder into my coffee and soups.
  5. I've weighed myself and was really surprised. I lost 5 pounds so far. 2 the first day and 3 the second. I am going to weigh again this morning too :tongue2: My preop diet is severly strict though.
  6. My surgery date is Nov 17th too, Chico CA I started my pre op diet this morning. It's super strict. Im really excited about this journey finally starting. I feel like I am graduating from High School or getting married or something. I have alot of excitement about the commitment I am making and a bit of fear too.....but I guess I always get nervous in the line to Space Mountain too even though I love the thrilling result after I finish the ride. Man this is going to be the ride of a lifetime. Its nice to think that someone else will be going thru it on the same day :cursing:
  7. Wow I would love to be allowed some solid protien and veggies at the end of the day. What bothers me about my pre op diet is that all this Sugar Free jello and protien drinks are filled with artifical dyes and sweeteners and stuff I can't pronounce. I never eat this stuff in my normal diet. I feel like I am eating worse. Theres got to be a more natural way to shrink my dam liver right?
  8. My surgery date is NOV 17th. I live in Cottonwood Ca and will be banded in Chico Ca. I start my very strict pre op diet this weekend. I am hoping to find a buddy to go through all this with. I can't believe its all about to really happen. All pre op tests and final consults are finished as of today. Time to stop lurking and start joining in the discussions. It would be awesome to find a local buddy!
  9. My surgery is on the 17 so we're all close together. I start my pre op diet on saturday and it's only protien shakes and sugar free clear liquids for me too. I am trying to be really positive about it and not dread it.
  10. Hello all, I have been lurking for a while and didn't want to post until I had something to post. Today I got the referal I needed from my doctor to the WLS program at Shasta Regional Medical Center in Redding CA. I am very excited to be starting on this journey and hope to be approved by Blue Cross CA (Calpers) insurance after I complete the program at Shasta. Anyone have experience with this program? God I hope this works for me, I see all the success stories on here but it is still hard to believe that I will be able to get the weight off with the help of the lap band but I am still going to try. Here's to a brighter lighter future

    New here from Redding CA

I just got the invite I needed for the Dec 2nd seminar. Is that the same day as support groups by chance? I would love to meet a fellow local bandster! Especially since I don't know anyone here
  12. Thank you all so much for your encouragement, I feel better now:)
  13. I am just in the beginning stages of getting approved, I am reading all these posts and find my self wondering if it will still be hard to lose weight after being banded? I am scared that I will fail again....but I am thinking that if so many other obese people have lost so much weight then the band must make it easier...no? Please any thoughts on this would be helpful. Thanks!
