    Metformin for PCOS

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to share this information with anyone else that may be suffernig from PCOS. I saw Pulmonary the other day and they suggested I try metformin for PCOS. He said he was afraid that seeing PCOS causes weight gain, that I may have trouble keeping the weight that I loose from the surgery off, he said Metformin would help me do that. So I brough the name of the medicine to my Primary and she liked the idea and prescribed me 500mg once daily. In addition to letting you all know about it, can anyone else who may be on it tell me how it is working for them? THANK YOU!

    Metformin for PCOS

Hi Amy! Actually my doctor did say that she wanted me to get bloodwork done within 30 days of taking it to check on everything. I don't know how long it would take to tell if it is going to bother me or not but I've been taking it a few days now and have no noticed any problem. I have noticed my stomach making A LOT of noises but its been nothing that has bothered me yet. I think I am on a fairly low does of 500mg though.....

    Mindful Eating

If someone asked you what mindful eating was, how would you describe it? Some might give it a simple definition and say "It is being aware of what you are eating", but I think that it is more than that. Recently, I began my pre-surgical classes where the topic of the day just happened to be eating mindfully. Now let's be honest, you can be completely aware of the fact that you just sat down to watch TV and whoever was there before you left a big bowl of chips on the side table. You begin to eat them as you watch TV, now you are still aware that chips are being put into your mouth and you are indeed eating them, but you aren't really thinking about it. You aren't even really hungry, they are just there! The only thing that makes you stop is your hand hitting the bottom of the bowl because there are no chips left. You feel terrible now because you didn't really want/need them anyway you just ate them out of habit. To prove a point, the doctor running our class gave everyone one raisin. We held it in our hands and described it by looking at it, touching it with our finger tips, smelling it, we described it by touching it to our lips and then we placed it in our mouths without chewing to describe it. Then of course we chewed it to describe it and he then said when we had purposely made a decision to swallow this itty bitty raisin we could do so. Now this was all a bit over the top I must admit, but it certainly hit home. This journey we call the lap band is not just about losing weight, it's about a lifestyle change, a forever change. I want to challenge you all to eat at least one meal everyday mindfully, you don't have to go as drastic as we ate that raisin but take the time to eat your meal slowly and make a choice to chew and swallow. Make a choice to eat mindfully and the margin for failure will decrease significantly. :toetap05: BreAnne

    Fills Q&A'a

I am in the process of all my pre surgical tests....the doctors have not really talked about fills but I am curious so here are the questions I have if anyone has any answers! Is your band empty when you come out of surgery? How long do you wait before your first and in between fills? How much saline does the band hold? Does anyone have a full band? If you ask your doctor to be aggressive with the amount he puts in your band for optimal weight loss will he/she? Can you request a fill or does the doctor have to advise it? Anything else you want to tell me please do and thank you!

What the Bleep is going on?

I was told you are not suppose to eat soup
  14. How did you do it? I'm not required to do some specific pre op liquid diet or anything but they would like me to loose 10lbs - 15lbs to be safer before surgery. Any tips on how to do that in a good amount of time?

To anyone who lost weight Pre-op

Thanks everyone! I am doing pretty good with drinking lots of water, trying to drink more and more everyday, it is hard to get into that habit. I'm also working on actually eating 3 meals a day, I never did that before. I think right after the holidays I will try a combination liquid diet with maybe one small meal a day. And then eventually do all liquids!
  16. I went to the Plastic Surgeon in Nov. and he said I should come back and see him 6 months after I have the lap band done. He said when doing a breast reduction they reduce them to be proportionate with your body size and not down to a particular cup size.

    ??'s about "BOOBS"

I am a DD now and was a D before I gained all this weight. So I expect to go back down to a D. I havent had my band yet but I've already spoke with a plastic surgeon about a breast reduction and he said he absolutly will do it. However, I have to loose weight first so as soon as I have reached 6 months of being banded I will go back to see him and set a surgery date.
