People Magazine: "Half Their Size -- No Surgery! No Pills!"
CherylB replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
AMEN!!! :clap2: -
My sentiments EXACTLY! Hussein did NOT have anything to do with 9/11, it was just our President using vulnerable Americans to agree to attack Iraq. Shame on him! :angry

I have LOTS of pills that I take each morning. I am told by my surgeon that I have to crush them for LIFE. Well, I crushed them and opened my capsules and mixed it with applesauce and I have been fighting vomiting all day so far. I can't get that horrid taste out of my mouth and that continues to nauseate me. I can't eat or drink anything without breaking out into a sweat and my mouth filling with water like right before you're going to upchuck. Not a nice subject I know! I hope I didn't make a mistake by banding if I can't take the meds I need! Anyone have any ideas? I take about 13 pills a day. YUCK! :think

I must say, I had the best laugh I've had in a while reading this thread! But only because my daughter and I were on Xenical at the same time and we had some hilarious stories to share about that evil leaky orange stuff! Too funny. I stopped using it real quick! My advice...DON'T DO IT!
-
Thanks everyone...I tried applesauce and about died. Spent 6 hours on the couch trying not to upchuck my expensive meds! Remember, I have LOTS of pills and it makes LOTS more powder when I crush them. I made the mistake of mixing it all up and trying to slug it down....well, my mouth wouldn't let me slug it down...so it sat there for awhile. I can't even begin to tell you what that tasted like. Thus the nausea for 6 hours straight. So, I will take my chances and swallow little pieces. My swelling seems to be getting a bit better. Now to figure out how to take my meds with food. Is there no end to this insanity???? Hee Hee!!

Thanks Mandy! I had my check-up today and the Dr. said he thought I was just still swollen from surgery and to stop the Protein drinks if they didn't sit right. He is concerned that I may not be getting enough fluids and warned me about dehydration. I can't believe this, but he OK'd cutting my pills into little pieces and taking them that way instead of crushing them all. Now all I have to worry about are the capsules. A friend of mine suggested putting them in a Yogurt smoothie..it worked better than anything else, so I'm doing that now. I think my stomach is getting back at me for banding it!! So, if it's just swelling, it should get better by the day. I kind of feel like I have full blown morning sickness...at 60????? I think not. Thanks again everyone for all the help you gave me!!

Laser hair removel. Has anyone had it???
CherylB replied to ladysplenda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My daughter had excess facial hair in a circle around her jaw and neck area. She was VERY self-conscious and started not going anywhere, so we looked into it and went ahead with it. It was minimally painful for her and the hair hasn't come back! I'll bet it's been 10 years. She would do it again in a heartbeat! GO FOR IT!! IT'S WORTH IT!! :clap2: -
Why did I do this to myself..........
CherylB replied to apinksoprano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I ENVY YOU. After 6 days out, I can hardly smell food and I'm terribly nauseous. Are you or anybody out there able to dring a whole glass of Protein shake at a time? How about Water? I feel like I'm so full my stomach hurts after a Protein Shake this afternoon. I can't seem to drink anything much til evening. Then I still have problems. So, Pinksoprano, while that was a little slip, and I'm sure we'll all make more in the future....relax and forgive yourself. It sounds to me like you'll be very successful!!! I can't wait to feel good enough to cheat a bit! Take Care!!! -
Taking Prescription Medicine with the Band
CherylB replied to reagansmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Regansmom, I'm the one posting about the problem. Just click on the underlined link in your first reply and you will see the post regarding this. I'm still working on this problem and have contacted my pharmacy team and was told there are no chewable or liquid meds that I'm taking. I'm still working on this problem and have decided to try to cut and swallow small pieces and to put capsules in liquid yogurt. I will be talking to my surgeon tomorrow and my primary care physician shortly about this. Take Care. -
Thanks! The only thing I could get down today was one Protein drink and some Water. I didn't even try the pills yet. I'll try them shortly. It seems I have to wait until evening to get anything down and then it's too hard to get the protein and water in. After the Protein shake, I feel totally full for the rest of the day. NO hunger at all. I know this will change, but right now it's scary! I feel worse 6 days out than I did 1 day after surgery. I had no nausea then. Thank God I see the surgeon tomorrow. We'll see what he says. Also...I don't know how much longer I can stand drinking those shakes...I really hate drinking milk, so that might be part of the problem. I sure hope things get better! I feel like such a failure after reading posts about people shopping all day the day they were released. I can't make it that far away from a couch to lay down when I get nauseous. It's pretty nasty. I'm a bit depressed too. OK, time to stop the pity party...ONE day at a time!! :think

Terrilen, This IS a new start for you and your band, and with all of those lessons learned, you're sure to be a success! Please be sure to share with us some of those lessons now and again, we can all benefit! Thank you for posting an answer to my problem and the VERY best of luck to you two! :nervous

I'm praying that when I lose weight I can get rid of some pills...that was the motivating factor for having this surgery. 5 years from now I want to retire and I can't if I have to pay for all of my pills. My entire SS Check wouldn't cover the cost of the meds I'm on now. I appreciate everyone's input, and I'm going to try every single suggestion. I'm desperate!! I had that lump in my throat feeling from day 1! Could I be drinking too much water at once? The taste of the meds is so vile that I'm miserable between the lump and pain in my esaphogus and the nausea that hits 5 minutes after taking the meds and lasts for up to 6 hours. Obviously, I can't get any nutrition to speak of while I'm trying not to upchuck!! I sure hope I did the right thing. One day at a Time!!!
-
Thanks everyone. My surgeon is adamant about crushing them for life and gets angry when I try to argue it, so I'm not asking him anymore. I swallowed the smaller pills this morning and crushed the bigger pills and put them in between layers of SF pudding. Then I swallowed that with water. Again....extreme nausea about 5 minutes after they were gone and the only thing that keeps them down is to lay down on my bed until the watery mouth thing passes. I can't eat anything else throughout the day due to waves of nausea. I think I might be in trouble here. I feel sorry for anyone taking more pills than me. Could it be that the powdered pills are dissolving too fast and irritating my stomach? I am REALLY sick after I take them! Terrilyn, when were you banded?
-
Laurend, That was my biggest question also, now I have to find a solution for me. Those big pills make bigger piles of powder when you crush them!!! If I find a way that works I'll post again.
-
Thanks everyone for your help. I'm feeling a bit better now, but everytime I try to drink something, the old upchuck feeling comes back. Maybe I irritated my stomach with all that medication. I may try taking the smaller ones whole. They are very little. I showed them to my surgeon, but he said NO...they must be crushed for life. Well, I think it's worth a try! I can't live with nausea like this the rest of my life, that's for sure! I'll also try the warm liquids first. Thanks again everyone!

AWESOME!!!!! You must have had a great surgeon!
-
Thank you dear...I sure hope so, it even hurts in my ear. I have been taking sips of Fluid all day and have even had Jello and it all stayed down, so it MUST be from the surgery itself. What did they do...JAM that tube down??
-
I got banded on Wednesday! It went very well, and I had minimum problems. The only think that I'm experiencing tonight is my esaphogus is hurting a bit and I can't seem to sip my Water like I should be doing. Do you think it's still from surgery or are things swollen yet? My Dr. had me on liquids for a week before and Clear Liquids the day before, then NOTHING by mouth all day Wed. and Thurs. I thought I'd die of thirst! But he didn't want me to drink anything until he did an upper GI this morning. Then I got broth and Crystal Light and could only eat a few teaspoonsfull when my esophagus felt like someone punched it. Now HOW can I sip water? Will this go away??? I'm pretty sore and very tired, so I think I'll turn in. I'd appreciate any advice.

The first day was for surgery, so I understood that (sort of) but not even an ice chip! The second day I was getting really upset. I had to put this moisturizing stuff on both sides of my lips so that my teeth would stop sticking to them. The nurse said my Dr. waits until he does a GI Series to see if the band is leaking. Then I could FINALLY drink something and I found I have this BIG lump in my throat, right around the middle of my throat. It's there all the time and is sooo annoying. At first I thought it was because I drank too much, but I can drink sips of Water and not throw up, so I don't think it's that, but how will I know? I'm just sort of hoping it's from the tube they put down your throat. Maybe I'm swollen yet. But I was banded at 8 a.m. Wednesday and there's no relief yet!! If that stays, how will I know if I'm full? That very same thing was a hint that I ate too much or too fast in the binder my Dr. gave me. It also hurts like heck when I breath deeply or yawn...ouch! This is the thing that bothers me the most. It feels like a big lump and it also sort of aches. WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT, OR SHOULD I SAY NECK. It's really frustrating me! :angry

I'll learn how to use this thing yet! I would like your soup recipe if I can ever swallow again without feeling like I have a giant lump in my throat from taking one swallow of water! I looked at your web site...you are gorgeous! I posted this one other time, but I don't know if I did it right, so if you see two of these...that's just dumb me! Thanks for your reply.
-
Lady Splenda, Yes, I would like your recipe for potato soup, only I have to be able to swallow first without feeling like my esaphogus has been kicked by a mule every time I swallow something. I'll also look for that soup you were talking about. I looked at your web site..you are gorgeous! Steph C, If that feeling is from the tube, How will I get enough liquids? I feel like I really need to drink more...maybe I'm just afraid of filling my stomach too much. Does Water go right through? Or does it sit there, waiting to back up into my esaphogus? I guess I need a little help here. If it's just from the tube, I guess I don't have to worry as much. Thanks for any help given!

Hi, Hey!! I just turned 60 and I'm going for it! This is for my HEALTH and a few more years of quality life! Right now I'm on my pre-op liquid diet (not fun) and will be banded Wednesday, Nov. 29. Am I nervous? You bet! But I can't lose weight on my own. Hopefully the band will be my tool to get me back to good health! Go for it! :clap2:

Can anyone tell me how a flouroscope is done? Is it like a simple x-ray? Do you have to drink anything? Thanks!
-
Thanks! That makes me feel much better. I'm not fond of tubes going down my throat, that's why I asked.
