Thanksgiving Is Depressing For Me!!!!!!!!!!!
CherylB replied to apinksoprano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, Yes, I had a smoothie this morning, I used 8 oz. skim milk, 1/3 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 container blueberry yogurt, and 1 scoop of unjury vanilla Protein powder. I put it in my magic bullet and it was very good! Then I got a stomach ache....I guess my stomach didn't like waking up that way! When you say you make a shake with Muscle Milk, how do you do it? I've seen it on our grocery store shelf. I guess at this stage, I don't know how much to drink in a day. My original paperwork said Slim Fast for 3 meals, but yuck! I was nauseous all day after drinking ONE. So I tried Unjury and liked it MUCH better. I'll try anything, since I have 2 more weeks of liquids to go AFTER banding. Thanks for your response. -
Thanksgiving Is Depressing For Me!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I feel your pain. I will be banded on Nov. 29 and this is my 2nd day of liquids. I'm hungry, but determined to get through this week. I admit, I'm a weak person and it would be dangerouse to be around Thanksgiving food, so I'm staying home and visiting my kids after the table has been cleared. I'll have Soup or broth after I get there so that the smells don't torture me too much. I will be very glad when the liquid phases are OVER. Hang in there...I'm sure there of more of us out there! :phanvan -
Jack's comments about binge eating being about the fear of being hungry could have been written by me! It took me a long time to figure it out, and I haven't heard of too many people who feel this way, so I felt relieved to hear there's someone else with that fear out there too. It really makes little sense when there's an abundance of food all around me, but getting really hungry generally makes me nauseous and I avoid that at all costs. That's why I know the band will be the perfect tool for me!! I HATE barfing in the worst way, so eating too much or too fast will be something I'll watch like a hawk! I'm being banded November 29 in Green Bay, WI by Dr. James Kemmerling. I will be going on a liquid diet on Nov. 22nd and for 2 weeks after surgery. I must tell you, I am terrified that I'll feel sick, faint, have terrible headaches from not eating my normal meals! I do NOT look forward to it at all. Does anyone out there have any advice? Will I feel sick or faint or weak? I also am not sure how to do this liquid thing and work too. I could just do Protein drinks at work. I ordered some unjury because Slim Fast almost did me in....yuck!! Does Unjury Protein powder and skim milk take the place of Slim Fast? Sorry for the long post....must be nervous :phanvan

Hi Everyone, I've been lurking here for months and now that I've finally made my decision and have a surgery date (November 29) I thought I'd post for the first time. I'm kind of nervous and excited at the same time. I can't wait to get going and see some real results. I want to live longer and this is my chance to do so. I've researched and lurked around chats and gone to support meetings for about a year and a half or better before I finally made up my mind. November 22 I will start my pre-op full liquid diet. I think the liquid diets are my greatest fear. I can't imagine not chewing, just swallowing my food. I think I'll be so hungry I'll feel sick. I tried a can of SlimFast the other day and it almost did me in. I truly can't stand it. I can't get past the smell and the thick milk taste. (I'm not crazy about milk. Can anyone tell me if flavored protein powder in skim milk is the same as drinking a Slim Fast? I sure hope so. I purchased UNJURY protein powder and it sure smell better. From what I hear everyone who's tried it has liked it much better than any other protein powder. I ordered it online. I'm just hoping I can have the laparoscopic technique! I can't really afford to take off more work with the open band surgery. My Dr. said my stomach was "tight" and he didn't think he had a whole lot of room to work in, but he said he'd give it his best shot! I also have Coronary Artery Disease and Diabets Type II on insulin and he told me I was his highest risk patient. I almost chickened out. I get comfort from reading most of the posts, but I admit, some of them scare me...especially the pbing stuff. I HATE to throw up!! Maybe that alone will keep me on the straight and narrow. Well, wish me luck. Cheryl

Hi, I'm looking at lap band surgery right now and trying to make the most informed decision I can by reading the support group forums. I find this to be the best place to find real answers. I have been overweight since I was 30 (I'm 58 now) and am now considered morbidly obese. I don't understand why I eat so much and need help to cut down my portion sizes. I realize that LB surgery is just a tool and not a cure-all, but I'm most interested in finding out if this surgery helps a compulsive overeater or if I would just be wasting my money. I need some help desperately because I have every illness being obese can bring: Heart disease, diabetes, knee problems, you name it, I've got it! So this is a last ditch effort to save myself! I've had a consultation and am now getting all the information needed by my insurance co. But I have not really made up my mind yet. Any comments as to compulsive overeating and LB surgery?

I think I'm a volume overeater. I've ALWAYS had a very big appetite, but didn't really have a weight problem until I was about 30. Also, I didn't drive until then, so I walked and biked most places. I think my exercise level went way down, but my eating was still way up there. I also have a big appetite for sweets ever since I was diagnosed with diabetes (like the forbidden fruit). But I really do want to live longer, so I'll just have to live with no sweets. My surgeon thought lap band would be best since I have more health risks than his average patient. I guess this will still be somewhat of a struggle, but if this helps to reduce my appetite, it's a good choice. Thank you for your response!!
