  1. Had lap band surgery Nov-09, things were going well, until I started having severe abdominal pain attacks. I finally got help and was told gallbladder issues. A few days later another severe attack and I had emergency surgery to remove the gallbladder. It's been over three weeks since the surgery and I finally had the Fluid placed back in the band yesterday, a good thing because I gained about 10 lbs. in that 3 weeks. Been having serious consitpation, bloating, and mild pain issues. Can anyone relate? Plus Been researching on the net and many websites explain I should take liver abd bile salt supplements. An I should flush my liver once in a while. Anyone else experiencing this, or any advice?
  2. Still having issues, had to have some Fluid removed from band, and prescibed meds for gastritous, the this moring had severe attack and ended up in the E.R. Now the doctors think I have an ulcer, and scheduled for a upper GI scope sometime next week.
  3. Went through the same nightmare experience a month ago, after 2 wekks from gallbladder surgery the clinic would only put 50% of the Fluid that I once had back, and then the other day they added more. So in a months time since gallbladder surgery I gained about 10-12 lbs. I was kind of upset, but its not the end of the world I will lose the weight again.
  4. I agree with other replys that massage and gentle patting on back and shoulders (like a baby) seems to help. I was banded 2.5 years ago and never had that issue. My wife was banded in January of this year and the shoulder pain was terrible for her. It finally went away after we were rear ended on icy roads (however created many more problems, whiplash etc.) so I don't recommend that technique.
  5. Surgery November-08, last fillJuly-09, lost a bunch of weight. Recently I'm having serious stomach pain at around thearea of the band. Trying to figure out what is causing it, I thought it was toomuch poor food choices, but now I am wondering if it is pressure from thebottom side of the band. The pain is similar to wanting to vomit, lasts usuallyfor about 4 to 5 hours before it subsides, and if I try to purge myself nothingcan come up from below the band. I suppose the pain could be from an ulcer, butI don't know. I have had this issue maybe 5 times in the last 2 years, but nowI have this same issue 3 times in the last week. I'm getting concerned and will call the doctor on Monday. Anybody else with similar issues or recommendations?

    My Update Upper GI

Just curious what symptoms are you having? Reason being I am having some serious pain symptoms that just started recently and its been 2 1/2 years since being banded. I wonder if there if there is a simularities. I wish you well with your endeavor.
  7. 44 years old and yes I still have my gallbladder. You might be on to something, my wife has been doing research on the internet and most symptoms point to the gallbladder or pancreas. either way I'll call the doctor first thing tomorrow. and feeling a little better today then i did last night when I wrote the post.

    Greetings

Congrats, I know you will be very pleased on the results you will get. I remember having some of the same feelings of excitement and anxiety, before I got my lapband 2 years ago.
  9. Your doctor sounds like a real jerk. 17 pounds in the first 6 weeks is a good start, and I think most people agree that different people get different results. My weight loss after 6 weeks was similar, and I was encouraged for a good start.

    Caffeine anyone???

I have been 2 years since surgery and was told to give up all forms of caffine drink after surgery. I was able to quit the soda pop no problem, but have continued to drink coffee. I understand that coffee dehydrates and isn't good for the stomach. However I try to drink coffee at reasonable amounts and have cut back.
  11. Congrats on getting your date. I know you must feel scared and excited at the same time. You're gonna love the new you in a few short months, and be glad you went through it.

  12. Banded 11-25-08 1st. fill delayed until 1-27-09. For the last 3 or 4 weeks I get a pain that is located lower left stomach. Straight down from left peck and about 6 inches up from the thigh. The pain comes and goes and only when I'm up moving about. The best way to descibe it would be very simular to a side ache, just not the spot where one expects to find a side ache. I reported to the Dr's. Office and I will see him on the 27th. Anybody else with anything simular, or any suggestions?
  13. Banded on 11-25-08 did great the 1st 2 weeks. Then I went on more solid food and the weight loss slowed down. I survived the Christmas Holiday week and gained only 1 or maybe 2 pounds. The problem now is that about an hour or two after eating I am hungry and want to snack, or even eat another meal. I've done pretty good at watching my food intake during meals but I want to eat another meal shortly afterwards. Anybody having simular problems, or care to comment.
  14. I don't know about anyone else but I'm thankful Christmas is over for the very reason why I why I write into this web site. There is just too much temptation. I was banded 2 days before Thanksgiving, and that was hard enough but I couldn't eat any of the good stuff even if I wanted to. However Christmas was a whole new ball game, I cheated left and right. On a postive note I kept the quanities to a very minimum. So if I gained anything this week the damage should be minimal. Tomorrow I will get serious about following the doctors orders, and try to put this last week behind me. By the way, as I am glad Christmas is over due to the food issues, I sorry to see it go for all the other reasons. It truly was a wonderful Christmas, and many family and friends that I hadn't seen in a while commented on the weight I lost so that will help encourage me to restart tomorrow. Good luck to everyone else, and I hope your Christmas was wonderful as well.

    liquid sucks!

What helped a little, was instead of the shakes I opt for the pudding instead. As I stated this helped some, having something that you can sort of chew of mush it around in the mouth before swallowing. Just wait till the first day of mushie foods like cottage cheese. I remember my 1st. day of cottage cheese, and how much I actually enjoyed having some substance as my food. Sound weird doesn't it? Just wait and you'll know what I mean.

    Itching!

I was banded on 11-25-08 and still suffer from itching. In fact I went to the doctor today for my 2 week post-op f/u. The nurse commented that they have been getting alot of complaints lately about people getting rashs where the strips were placed on them. She even commented that one guy had blisters with the rash. Personnely my whole stomach itches bad including the area where they shaved me. It's gets so bad that I have trouble sleeping. The only relief I have found is Gold Bond cream, and of course not on the actual incisions.
  17. I was banded on 11-25-2008 and since then have recovered really well. I have followed the doctors orders about eating and walking, and have lost 10 pounds so far. However I have been experiencing some odd effects and was wondering if it is from the surgery or something else. For instance I'm now always cold, I need extra blankets at night to stop the shivering. I need to bundle up more before venturing outside. I realize this all could be a coincedence since it is Nov/Dec in Michigan, but I never suffered through the cold like I do now. Secondly I wake up after about 4 hours of sleep and can't go back to sleep. At this point I'm ready to begin my day, however it's only 2 or 3 in the morning. There isn't anything to do at this time and I don't want to risk waking anyone else. I admit that since losing a total of 22 pounds since the start of pre-op diet, my quality of sleep has improved, and the cpap machine seems to be working better. Anyway I would be interested to hear if anyone else is experiencing simular or other effects. url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wouDW7j/] [/url]
  18. I know what you are going through. I set to have surgery on 11-25-08, I am nervous yet I find myself almost unable to contain myself due to the excitement. Good Luck!

    Not doing too well!

I feel some of your pain, pizza is one of my personal favorites too. In fact my family is not allowed to even say pizza in front of me, I told them in jest to call it the "P" word. Two days ago my family had pizza and we had family over. I actually left and went for a drive. I called my wife and told her to call me back when everyone is done eating, and to do something about the smell. She respectfully did and stated everyone is done eating the "P" word. I share this to hopefully amuse you, and encourage to try again harder tomorrow.

    Pre-Op Diet

It is interesting viewing all the differant diet plans people have prior to surgery. I'm currently on day two of a completely liquid diet that consist of protein shakes, and other fluids. I sooo jealous of you people allowed to eat foods even if it is Atkins style. However I have great family and spitiual support, even if I'm grouchy and probably a little difficult to live with. I'm sure I'll get through this for another 12 days.
  21. I don't want to sound like I'm whining, but I have given up most all other bad vices. I stopped using tobacco products 11 years ago, I haven't had a drink of anything alcohol in 12 years. I even stopped drinking soda pop 4 months ago. Other than my weight and not getting enough excercise I live fairly healthy. My lap-band surgery is on 11-25-08, and amoung all the other things to prepare I'm told I have to give up coffee, and all other caffine products. All this time I thought coffee was a guiltless pleasure that I truely enjoy. I don't know how I can function, especially without that afternoon pick-me-up. I tried going cold turkey, but the headaches and withdrawl symptoms were incredable. I have weaned my self down to 2 cups of Dark or French Roast a day. Anyone have any suggestions, or advice.
  22. New to the site, surgergy is on 11-25-2008 and I am excited and nervous.
  23. Thank you all for your reply's on coffee. I found the postings helpful and insperational. I will continue to try to give up coffee, but it's nice to know that if I can't it won't be the end of the world, or that I have failed with this opputunity on a new start in life.
  24. Hello from Michigan, new to this site, surgery is on 11-25-08, and I am nervous and excited.
