Numbness in my esophagus and throat?
LoadsofLaughs posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I just got my third fill about 2 weeks ago. Things were going pretty well, but I think I irritated my stomach by eatting red meat. After I had the meat, I noticed that I was starting to PB a lot. So I switch to eatting softer foods to ease the irritation. Well two nights ago I felt what can only be described as a warm Fluid sensation turning in my stomach and coming up my esophogus. I have never felt that before. It didnt hurt but in the morning I could feel my band (normally I cant even tell I have one). Today I woke up and I feel numbness in my esophagus and in the back of my throat. I switch to liquids. But every time I drink anything, I feel like someone has sprayed some sort of anaesthetic down my throat. What is this? Could it be heartburn? I have had heartburn before but it has always burned. This doenst. Thanks, LOL -
Question about Fill Procedure. Was this done correctly?
LoadsofLaughs replied to LoadsofLaughs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, There was about a 3 month laps between fill one and fill two. There was about a month between fill two and fill three. Im feeling a tiny bit of restriction today. I just wonder why I did the barium swallow laying down. It was really weird and my weight loss has been VERY slow. Im just want to get my diet on track. -
Question about Fill Procedure. Was this done correctly?
LoadsofLaughs posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I got my 10cc band about 6 month ago. First Fill = 1cc, under fluoroscopy and standing up. Second Fill = 1cc, under fluoroscopy. Laying down for the injection. Sitting up for the barium swallow. Third Fill = only .25cc. Barely inclined for the injection and barium swallow. Here's my question. Two weeks after my second fill I was able to eat ANYTHING I wanted and I was hungry all the time. So, I expected to get a fairly aggressive fill. Instead my Dr. only gave me a .25cc! He said that the barium was staying in my pouch, so I didn't need anymore. But he never sat me up for the Barium swallow. I did it barely inclined. Shouldn't he have sat me up to see if the barium would pass through the band quickly? I dont eat lying on my back, why test me this way? I left feeling like I had not even gotten a fill, which is a total drag because Im a self pay and all these fills are really adding up. At this rate I'll need 8 fills just to get up to 4ccs. Was this done correctly? I don't like my fill doctor and he is very difficult to talk to, but I don't have a lot of choices where I am. What to do? -
Going for 1st fill tuesday, scared
LoadsofLaughs replied to moonandstarzz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor doesnt number the skin and used a 5 inch needle. It looks scary, but it doesnt hurt at all. You hardly feel it. Its sooo nothing to be afraid of. You'll be in and out of there before you know it. I would get the fluoroscopy though. It will make it easier to find the port and you wont get over filled. -
Does it seem unusual to already have 7.6cc's in a 10cc band after 2 fills?
LoadsofLaughs replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wish my Dr were more aggressive. Im on my 3rd fill and Im only at a sad 2.25cc! Im aways hungry but I cant seen to get my Dr to fill my band. I see you are in TX, who is your Dr.? -
HELP Restriction Gone Overnight! Whats wrong?
LoadsofLaughs posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I just got my second fill 3 weeks ago. Each fill has been 1cc. I was actually thinking that I may have gone too tight because I was PBing a lot and eatting in the morning was almost impossible. Two nights ago I was watching TV when suddenly I got a small pain. It only lasted about 4 seconds. It sort of felt like a stitch had come undone (not say thats what is was, just how it felt). The next day I didnt get a chance to eat until 8pm. I was starving and I orders a large bowl of wonton Soup in a Chinese Rest. I ate the whole bowl without any problem. It wasnt until later that I though WTF, how did that happen? Well the next morning i I ate a slice a toast, again zero restriction. That is unheard of for me in the morning. I got scare and called my doctor. I thought I might have had a slip. He said I'd be in paid if I had a slip. I asked if it could be errosion. He said he thought it was too soon for that (banded 6 months ago). A leak? He said not likely. He asked if my port had shifted or if it was hard to access. It hasnt and its easy to access. He told me I should get a barrium swollow. He actually says that I may just need another fill! Is that possible? I made an appointment with my fill Dr. I must say that I dont think this is a greatest Dr and wonder if he will do a good job of ID'ing the problem. Has anyone ever hear of anything like this, total restriction one day and none the next? I have an appointment next Thursday, but would like any feedback i could get now. Thanks, Loads of Laughs -
HELP Restriction Gone Overnight! Whats wrong?

Hi, I think you guys are right. I need another fill. I had my surgery down in MX so I dont really talk to my doc anymore. My local Fill Dr. made it VERY clear that he would only do my fills and not any after care. When I ask questions, he pretty much shuts me down. But he is one of only two Doc's here who will see patients banded in MX. I dont think my fill dr. is such a great doctor though. It seems like every time I talk to one of his patients, they are either in pain or fighting an infection....yikes! He's only done about 50 lap bands. He's got a really weird personality too. When we first met he want to see my scars. I pointed to them and said, here they are. He replied in an upset tone, "I know where they are." I guess he thought I was insinuating that he didnt know what he was doing. lol I dont know, maybe he was having a bad day. I waited an extra month before getting my first fill because I was told that it would reduce my chances of a slip. Its been one disaster after another at work. Im putting in 70 hour weeks. When I have free time, all I want to do is veg. I've got to start getting my fills and getting on my elliptical. I feel much more motivated to stay on top of those fills now. coolcrystal, I read something on this board a few days ago about why restriction goes up and down. The poster said that when we have a pretty good fill, its harder for our food to go down. It takes longer. If you go to sleep before all of the food is out of your pouch, the food will just sit in your pouch and irritate your stomach. They said this is the reason why so many have too much restiction in the morning and not enough at night. I thought it was a pretty interesting post. -
HELP Restriction Gone Overnight! Whats wrong?

You guys make me so jealous! I was banned back in April and I have only lost 30 pounds. It was actually more but I gained 10 back after my first fill! I just cant seem to get motivated. I think maybe Im getting fills to slowly. Im only on my second and I see that most people are on there 3 or 4th in that amount of time. Ive been really feeling down on myself because I havent been able to stay on a strict diet of protien shakes and 100 calorie meals, like most of the folks here. Seems like everyones in the zone and Im still fighting to keep from eatting ice cream or cake or whatever. How do you guys find the will? -
Soda soda soda
LoadsofLaughs replied to MrsFlipFlops's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I never really drank pop before my surgery but my doc say I can have half of a soda if: Im VERY careful about how much I drink, take tiny sips, and make sure that the carbon is gone before swollowing. I've had a soda while banded. Of course that was after my first fill. I dont know if it would be worth trying at optimal fill. My understanding is that the carbon can build and cause a slip. -
Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
LoadsofLaughs replied to j_war06's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yup, I get the classic, "you have a beautiful face." We all know thats code for, "you have a disgusting body." I've had people who are handing out restaurant coupons make a mad dash across the room to hand me one. lol Thats always pretty sad. Oh, and whenever I go out with my skinny sister, I order something healthy and she doesnt. The waiter ALWAYS assumes the fatty dish is for me and they will place the dish in front of me. I guess they think that a fat person would never order anything with a veggie! -
Holy Protein Cow! Cottage Cheese!
LoadsofLaughs replied to sistasassy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yup, I love Cot cheese. My grandmother used to take warm green Jello and mix in cottage cheese, pineapple and peacons....its an old southern dish. We used to eat it mixed with canned peachs as kids. I like it with a scrambled egg and a pickle...I know it sounds weird but I love it. lol I see a lot of people use it in the place of ricotta. -
HELP Restriction Gone Overnight! Whats wrong?

Hi, Thanks for the response. I actually woke up today and had a little bit of restriction. I guess I was just scared because the change happened so quickly, actually overnight. Boy I was so depressed. Im a self pay and I was just sick over all the money down the drain. I feel much better now. Thanks again, LOL (Loads of Laughs)
