Emily, When I first started the process of trying to get approval for lap band I too was at 39 BMI. I knew my chances for an approval would be much better if I gained 15 more pounds. I know that sounds awful but maybe it would work for you if you gained a little bit more weight just to get you up to the 40 BMI. After all, we all gain weight as time goes on and the insurance company cant prove that you gained it just to get approval. Just a thought.

Honey, hang in there! I too had tremendous pain and thought that I made a huge mistake. Everyday will get better. Try to sleep and rest as much as possible. It will get better. I am 2 months post op and I am so happy that I made it through the toughest part. My life has improved a 100%. You have come a long way and it just keeps getting better. Keep coming back to this web site for support. There is alot of people here going through the same thing you are. You are not alone. -
I understand your frustration because just like you I have a family that I still have to cook for. I have a husband and 4 children, none of which have a weight problem. I am now 4 weeks post op and feeling a little bit better about my mushy diet. The hardest part so far was the liquids but I kept telling myself that I did not come this far just to give in. I know how hard it is to have to cook a big meal for the family all the while your stomach is growling but it will all be over soon. When you feel the urge to give in try and go for a walk or clean a closet. Keep yourself occupied. Its just not worth the risk of your band slipping or doing some other type of damage. Hang in there and remember you are on your way to your new self and you are worth the sacrifice!

Prayer is always welcome with me!! I know first hand how the Lord touches our lives with prayer. I would not be the mother of 4 without the Lord. I believe that the Lord will pull all of us through this with our true faith in him. Feel free to email me anytime!

Is anyone there?

Joe, I believe that you did something that was in your best interest for your health. I'm really sorry that your wife did not realize that. I had the same worries about my husband and our marriage but the bottom line is that you really need to be with someone who puts your concerns first. Right now you need to focus on you and not on how your wife feels compromised. If she truly loves you she will come around and if not, you need to love yourself enough to know that you will be ok no matter what. I know first hand how much our weight affects how we feel about ourselves but we need to remember that we are not defined by the scale but by how we show our true selves to eachother. Please remember that you can always find support and encouragement from those that are going through the same things that you are and dont give up. It might just be a phase that your wife needs to adjust to. Please keep in touch.

Pepper, the day that I had my surgery I woke up starving. I was banded on 4-04-06. I just had my 2 week pre-op on Wednesday and I was cleared for soft foods. Just hang in there, I know its hard but for the first two weeks your tummy is healing and needs time to adjust to the band. I had alot of swelling as I'm sure you do too and it will all be worth it when you can eat. Try to take your mind off your hunger by taking a short walk or reading a magazine. I assure you that it will all be worth it, just think, you did'nt come this far to fail now. Keep reading all the entries that people on this site have entered because there is alot of good information and encouragement.

Thank you for your reply. I am so glad that I found this web site! I dont personaly know anyone who has the band so I feel like I am all alone right now. It has been so hard these past few days not being able to eat. I have 4 kids that I still have to cook for and I did'nt think that it would be so difficult to be around food and not be able to eat it. I know that this is going to work I have already lost 18 pounds!

Hello everyone. I was banded on April the 4th and still on the liquid diet till Wednesday. I have been so hungry, I thought that the band was soppossed to curve hunger. Is it just because I am on strict liquids?
