    Blog #1

Welcome to LBT! It sounds like you're in a great program. I've haven't heard of anyone getting their gallbladder removed right before getting the band as this can cause scar tissue...some have them out at the same time the band is replaced, but I'm sure your surgeon knows what he/she is doing. Good luck on your six months of preperation...take advantage of the knowledge on this site, it helped me to be moare prepared. -BG

    Need some info.....

B- I'm assuming you have access to proteins, if not you can order canned meats, fish, and beans online (ie. canned chicken, tuna in water, low fat refried beans) . Getting enough solid protein is what will help with the hunger. Fresh fruits and veggies are a good choice, but if you don't have access then the lite syrup ones are allowed on my diet in moderation (there's some heathy harvest applesauces that are good too, but eat them ontop of a solid as they're sliders). I'm wondering why you didn't order any SF things as you mentioned them and I'm sure there are lots online. -BG

    don't rain on my parade

I think the perception is that the band is just like RNY and the weight will fall off you, and that it does it for you...that was actually my thought before I looked into it. I think it's a matter of educating people that it's still all up to you, there isn't any malabsorbtion or magic and you're losing just like you should with the band. You're doing great, keep it up and you're right, you'll get there! -BG

Another Blow, but this one has Nerf foam on it

Nerf foam...LOL! You've got a great attitude...I always say bring on the tests, the more they know the better, right?! Enjoy your 'good sleep' and I hope it's just something minor they can treat. You certainly don't need any more worries right now to stress your poor tummy out. Best wishes dear! -BG

    golf or other sports

Yep, I've been told it takes 6 mo. to completely heal and until then you have to be somewhat careful of the port site (watch sports where you're on/using stomach ie. booogie boarding), but your band (slippage) is pretty much protected by your body. Unless you plan to eat the golf balls LOL you'll be fine.

    Kirstie Alley -

Amen sister! I saw her on Oprah and wanted to scream the same thing at both of them...apparently Oprah is very anti-WLS though.

What rules were you given for the lifetime diet?

Thanks guys, that was just what I needed as I start on food!
  13. I did not have to have one, but DH and 2 of my kids have had one for other reasons and none of them thought it was bad at all.

    5/13/09 Food! Glorious Food!

*Post Deleted for Lap Band Book
  15. Hi again LD! If you need any help with the site, just let me know. I've only been on here for 6 months when I started my LB process (I didn't even know what a blog was when I started LOL..my teens would be SHOCKED that I write one now!), but I learned a lot just by poking around here, and trial and error. The main things are to spend some time in the Forum sections you're interested in and take a look at the 'stickies' (information they've captured forever) at the top of each (maybe not all) forum section. There's a Ticker Tutorial on the Forum that shows you how to make those thingees at the bottom of everyone's signatures. I dared to look at the 'chat room' once...they were typing too fast for me to even keep up with them...I didn't last long there! Just poke around and post new questions (start a new thread) when you have them...you'll be surprised at all the answers you'll get! There are about 375 people from all over the world just in our April month banders group! -BG

  16. Wow! 14 pound loss!!! ...and you're at such a light weight so that is doubly impressive!!! What I wouldn't give to see 177 again...let's see last time was 5-6 years ago. You go girl! You've got a lot to be pround of today! The 22 isn't that far away. You'll have to tell me all about the fill experience since I go after you! -BG

  17. Part II- (apparently I was too wordy as usual LOL)

I was headed down the drain with health so I get wanting to be there for your kids. Mine don't know about the LB, but they're already proud of the weight I've lost. The nice part is knowing I won't be gaining it back this time!

Keep on posting...this place has lots of great people and I've gotten so many questions answered on the Forum!

Good luck on getting your date and keep me posted on your progress! Best Wishes! -BG

  18. Hi there Lucky Dog! Thanks for the message!

Hooray for the approval!! That's a big step forward! I'm sure you'll get your date soon and then everything will move quickly from there. It's good to have your families support. I didn't tell anyone but DH. I know what you mean about failing diets...I've been 'successful' at many diets (lost 40-50 pounds more times than I can count), but I'm still a 'diet failure' as I always gained it back plus more. I'm so glad I didn't tell anyone else, at least at this point. I've never read anyone on here being sorry they kept this a secret, but many that wish they had. You don't need any negative input at this point!

It's going to be especially hard for you being around food all the time, but hey, I'm home and food is always 10 steps away. That's the great thing about the LB, once you get to your sweet spot it won't let you over eat.

  19. Hey Barbara! How did your appointment go? Once I finally saw the doc (1.5 hrs later...grr) it was 3 min. and I was out. For some reason they have me down as losing 16 lbs. since surgery, but according to my memory it's more like 8lbs. Can't figure that one out, oh well, as long as I know the total that's all that matters. First fill June 2nd. Hooray for mushies!!!! Hope yours went well. -BG

    Any Bunnies working out??

Up until now, not much except some walking. I started working in the yard this weekend and overdid it a little (it's hard to bend to weed, plant, etc. with the port area still swollen...I'm afraid of flipping it). Today is my post-op appt. so I should be cleared for the treadmill and starting to workout on my new Wii Fit.

    germany... tricare...frankfurt

Hi Chantel and welcome to LBT! You probably won't find an answer here on the blogs as this place doesn't get as much visibility as the Forum. Go to the 'Forum' tab at the top here and click, then down to 'Doctors and Hospitals' and 'Insurance and Financing' and break your question into two parts and 'Post a new Thread' (at the top of each of these) with your questions. There are people all over the world here so hopefully you'll get an answer. Let me know if you need more help. Oh, and take everything to the docs, you never know what you'll need. BTW my DH grew up as a child on the same base you're on (his dad was an Army doc)...he speaks fondly of wanting to go back to visit Landstuhl someday and his parents had a great time there. Good luck! -BG

    5/11/09 Proms and Moms

I had a great busy weekend. DS1’s Prom was on Saturday. It’s a mixed blessing to see your kids growing into adults…you’re so proud of them, and yet you’re sad that you’ve lost that small child that was so dependent on you. I missed not helping to pick out the outfit like the ‘great prom dress hunt’ DD and I enjoyed 4 years ago. It’s different with boys…he took his date to the tux shop and she helped him select something complimentary to her dress. For his first dance I’d gone with him to pick out the flowers, but this year he went with a group of his friends to the florist, and he did a great job (and he bought me a beautiful flower arrangement for Mother’s Day). It’s hard sometimes watching them become independent adults. We had fun watching him getting ready (I did get to help with a little hair gel-40-50 mph winds) and then meeting at a friend’s home with about a dozen couples going for pictures. We took pics for about an hour and then off they went to dinner and then the ‘Grand March’ (televised march of each couple being introduced under an arch, indoors because of the wind) before boarding the buses for prom. He had a blast! *Pic attached minus faces, since I don't have their permission. Mother’s Day was wonderful! We cleaned out our small pond/waterfall I built out back…my least favorite job of the year (involves netting the 2 dozen goldfish, emptying the pond and waterfall, cleaning all the muck, repotting all the stinky pond plants, and then putting it all back…a huge job), so it was great to have help. We actually started this Sat. and didn’t finish until Sunday. The kids pitched in Sunday on planting all the flats of annuals I’d bought too…another big job. It was the best Mother’s Day gift of all to have them all happily helping with something I usually have to do on my own. We finished early afternoon and then the kids took me to a movie matinee, Star Trek (BTW it was a great movie, we all loved it). I did splurge with some refried beans/salsa DD made me for dinner (mushies-a day ½ earlier than I should have). I can tell you that although my band is wide open I either ate them too fast or too much because I definitely got that ‘hurt’ feeling in my chest that I had right after surgery. It was a good reminder to take things slowly and measure everything. I go to the doc tomorrow morning for my post-op visit and to get cleared for mushies for the next 3 weeks. It was the perfect weekend!

DB- I'll be watching for the monthly updates! Kathi- How old do you think I am?!!! LOL!! It's a pic I found from the 50's, but you're right...prom outfits are timeless...fluff and lace and bowties are always in style.
