LOL! Maybe THAT's why I'm not skinny! Wouldn't want to look like THAT! I'm hoping it's photoshopped! -

Keep walking...it helps the body to absorb the gas bubbles that are causing you pain. Get in as much liquid as you can as staying hydrated is the most important thing right now. Ask your doc for an anti-nausea Rx just in case you get to the point of vomiting (can damage the band stitches if you're not healed). Good luck; you should be turning the corner soon! -BG
-
I had 3 weeks of clear liquids (not full) and skim milk and I was very weak. Get as much protein as you can, drink all the water and take the vitamins (I take 2 Centrum chewables morning/night). Good luck with the doc today! -BG
-
Congratulations on the banding...you're doing great! -BG
-
If you weren't a little nervous, you wouldn't be normal! You'll do great! Best wishes for Wed. and let us know how you're doing! -BG
-
Great job! Keep up the NSV's!
-
So glad you're doing better and getting more water in. You'll be doing great soon and all this will be a blurrrrr. Take the trip. By the end of October you'll have already had at least one fill and be fully healed. The port area may still be a tiny bit sore at that point, but that's all. Have a great weekend! -BG

CONGRATULATIONS on your banding! Hope this note finds you feeling better each day. Remember the post-op mantra...walk, walk, walk, and sip, sip, sip! Best Wishes! -BG

Did I Over Do It?....Laura Key....12 Weeks Post Op
Band_Groupie commented on Lapband LaLa's blog entry in Lapband LaLa
Hmmm...you're right where I've started the debate (although I have to admit I've had more than a few PB's since my last fill...always my fault as I'm always in a hurry). I'll be following you as usual to see how it goes. It sounds perfect if you're not hungry after a few bites and you're not having any complications. Hope all continues to go well! -BG -
Scales - Sometimes its fun being a scale whore, sometimes its disgusting!
Band_Groupie commented on tonya66's blog entry in Sunshine2's (Tonya's) Journal
LOL...NOT funny at all, but I was just blogging the same story...damn scale! BTW-I'd kill to be 165.1 right now! It's all relative! Hang in there girl! -BG -
Glad you made an appointment. PBing can be a vicious cycle that can get you into trouble quickly (PB, band area swells, eat, PB, more swelling...pretty soon you can't swallow your own spit). Until you see the doc I would stick with thin liquids (protein shakes, and get enough fluids) and track all the PB's so the doc will have a good picture of what is happening. He'll probably do an unfill for a while and may want to check for a slipped band. I don't know about medicines, but make sure he knows what you're taking. Good luck to you! -BG

Sounds like you need more fills. There have been polls here about #fills and amounts until the sweet spot (you can do a search under the fill section). I've had 3 fills and have restriction now, but I'm sure now that I'll need at least one more (5.6 in 10cc LB). Some need nothing in their band and some need it completely filled. If you're eating more at meals than you should or you're hungry between meals you need to keep getting fills. You'll get there...I know it's discouraging now, but remember it's not a race as long as you end up on the finish line. -BG
-
You didn't mention what your restriction is like and if you feel like you're at your sweet spot? 'Dieting' is only going to get you so far. The band is all about helping you with the right amount of restriction. If you're able to eat too much at a time or you're hungry between meals you need a fill. Get back to basics with the rules...make a committment to measure and track things (calories, protein, water) for a few weeks, get in the total amounts of daily protein and water, no snacks between meals, wait before/during/after meals to drink etc. Good luck to you...you know what to do! -BG

195 gained 1/2 lb. and I'm not sure how...thought I had a good week.

young- CONGRATULATIONS on your banding! Sounds like you've turned the corner if you're only using the pain meds at night (that's about where I was by a week). I'd say by the end of the week that the liquids were getting easier, but I did have a hard time in the beginning. You're on a much more advanced diet then I was though (I had CLEAR (not full) liquids and skim milk only for 3 weeks. For the first 6 weeks the only thing you need to focus on is getting in the liquids...don't worry about Protein, losing weight or anything else but healing and liquids. You don't want to get dehydrated or you can cause all kinds of problems as you know. Here are my suggestions...if you're eating anything thick (like the yogurt, you may want to thin it a little as even that is probably filling your pouch at this point). I found that the pills went down easier with a hot liquid (decaf peppermint tea helped me through this phase...not something I would normally pick, but it was suggested for settling the stomach and it did work for me). I also spaced my pills out through the day and didn't take the ones I absolutely didn't need daily (ie. Calcium supplements...stuff that can wait a few weeks until you feel better). Make sure you're taking each pill after you've had a few sips of something hot to open the stoma so it slips through. Even with all this I did struggle with the nausea a few times and had to take my anti-nausea meds once as I was starting to heave. As often as I could I would keep the glass/cup of liquid in my hand (like when you're just watching TV...it sounds stupid, but it reminds you to take a sip more often...I found that if I put it down that it took me much longer than it should to finish it (I'd take a few sips then put it down for awhile). It's a pain to keep sipping consistently, I know. I also kept track of my liquids on a piece of paper so I could see where I was...sounds stupid, but it was a little motivating to see it getting better each day. Also I would see if I was where I should be by lunchtime and if not I'd work a little harder at it for the next few hours. This helped me space the pills out also, since I was used to taking them all in the morning I needed to set a new temporary routine up. By week three things finally started to loosen up a little and then I started getting hungry (started my Protein shakes a few days early, but you already have those). I think you'll find the stoma swelling will go down soon and then you'll be able to take bigger sips without it hurting. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress! It's all worth it! -BG

CONGRATULATIONS! Ask your doc if you can take a cough suppressant...can't imagine coughing with that sore belly and it can't be good for all the internal stuff that's trying to heal. Hang in there, it will get better! -BG

CONGRATULATIONS!! It's such a great feeling to get that approval! Many say after about day 3 or 4 it gets easier, so hang in there (sorry, I didn't have a liquid pre-op diet). I can tell you it's all worth it!!! -BG -

Yeah, start in Aug. and you'll be done by the end of the year...Happy New Year to you!! I believe the PCP visits were covered, but I'll try to check this. Make sure you don't combine the visits with anything else as they get 'coded' to the insurance company a certain way (I believe as a weight loss visit). I saw one gal here who was almost done with her 6 mo., got sick and combined a sick visit with the weight loss vist and she got denied and had to begin again. Don't know that Highmark is that strict, but better safe...
