Hi Carly- I'm SO glad you checked back in here...I've been thinking of you! Getting stuck is just a part of the process...I've had several plateaus and they're not fun. I haven't had a fill for a long time as the restriction is pretty good, but I've had my share of problems learning how to work with it. The WL has been slow, but it's not a race and I'm still plugging along. This place has helped me feel accountable (I have an easy time letting myself down, but not if others are watching LOL)...there's always someone here who's been through tough times when they come up.
Hope your health is good and let me know if I can help with anything.
Glad you're back!!!! -BG

Banding, Business, Bread and Blogs!
Band_Groupie commented on Yvette1026's blog entry in How I lost 100lbs
Great job on the eating out...that would have been tough to do! I've got great restriction, but I could easily eat 3 small slices of bread between meals. Sometimes it's not how much you can eat, but rather if you were actually hungry between meals that determines a fill...or was it just that devil head hunger calling you? Good job on the week of meals out! -BG -
Well said GF...all of it! -BG

Same-straw. Some just burp a lot...I couldn't burp to save my life before, now I BELCH with every little bit that goes through the band- liquid or solids. The 'gas pain' may just be the sliming/stuck...that happens. -BG Oh, and great WL!!!!

I use Gensoy-Soy Protein Powder (Costco, I think our Giant Eagle sells it for more $ too) 1/2 serving (1.5 'heaping Tbsp.) is: - 55 cals. - 0g carbs - 12.5g of protein It's 'unflavored', just mainly soy protein isolate. It does make the oatmeal taste more 'pasty'...well, not taste because I don't taste it at all, but more changing the consistency/texture, but it doesn't bother me at all. I just messed around with the recipe and how much liquid to add. I was trying to get over 20g of protein for Breakfast and I'm tighter in the mornings so 1/2C total is good for me (this is higher protein than 3.25 Large eggs). My 'concotion' is also made with 3.5-4oz. of skim milk and I make a double batch and pack up 1/2 of it (about 1/2C for the next day- I just use those small 1/2 C Glad? round containers). So my concotion as listed above with skim milk (not counting the SF syrup which is very low cal) that I eat every day is: *make sure you mix it all really well with a fork before heating it up or the protein powder will lump together 264 cals. 3.8g Fat 38.3 Carbs (good kind w/fiber) 20.8g Protein -
You're re-commitment is infectious!! What a great attitude! Ketosis was always my friend too on Atkins in the past (lost weight quickly)...I know this wasn't a normal day as I've been following, but watch those low-cal. 'starvation mode' days...an even cal. count helps the WL not to be 'shocked' into a stall. Keep it up GF! -BG

1/13/10 The Economy Crashed My Party
Band_Groupie commented on Band_Groupie's blog entry in The Sweet Spot
Thanks gals, lots of tears this week. I did do the 'this happened for a reason', but it didn't help. We're updating the resume today... -
I've never had a problem with *ehemm* 'going' before I had the band. In fact I couldn't even eat raisin bran without getting diarrhea before. Now I've got the opposite problem. I'm working to get in more Water as I know that's a likely cause, but I have a question about Fiber. I've been adding Benefiber to my moring oatmeal concoction (along with soy protein). I'm adding 2 Tbsp. to Breakfast only, but according to the Benefiber box that's the max. serving for the whole day (they recommend 2 tsp./3x day max). I know fruit/veggies will give me fiber as well, but for those of you adding additional fiber, like Benefiber is it OK to do it all in one meal like I am, or should you spread it out over the day? How much do you take in a day? What I'm doing isn't working and I've been doing it for months now. Help!

Oh Heather, I forgot: I'm not a good example as I don't track things except when I need to get back on track. When I do track, I usually keep it 1000-1200 cals. I hardly get in any fruit now and that's something I need to work on (I love fruit). A typical day: B - 1/2 serv. reg. oatmeal w/1.5 T soy protein powder & 1T Benefiber added, topped with several squirts of SF maple syrup (I have this every morning) - About 3 cups of coffee before B L (about .75-1C total) - Almost always leftovers and I start w/about 3-4 oz. of protein (it's usually chicken or beef) - 1/2C of veggies or 1/4 C veggies and 1/4 C of another side (sometimes a starch like potatoes or rice) D (about 1- 1.25 C total, I'm allowed 1.5 C, but I almost never eat that much) - I eat whatever my family is having for dinner (DH is the chef) so pretty similar to what I had for lunch. -I do try to eat the protein first, I only take a small spoonful of the 'bad carbs' (he's 'Mr. Potato Head'), and I usually end my dinner with one SF Russell Stover's chocolate (I don't eat a lot of SF/diet foods at all, but I'm a chocoholic and I love these, so it gives me something to look forward to and I don't feel deprived of my beloved chocolate). -I do drink alcohol in moderation- usually only on the weekends (both wine and beer-which I pour so it gets a lot of bubbles out, and yes my doc allows this)...yes, it's probably slowed my WL some to drink calories, but it's a lifestyle for me, not another diet. -I have 'traded' some items out, but still feel like I eat 'normally', just a lot less...ie. we have tacos one night most weeks- always have; I used to eat 5 + spanish rice, now I have traded the hard shells for a soft low carb tortilla (I think they're wheat) and I spread Greek Yogurt (I've traded this for reg. yogurt and sour cream and love it) on it and add 1/2C meat and some of the reg. toppings. I usually have a hard time finishing a whole 1. I never feel deprived or hungry...hope something in there helps. Great WL this week...way to go!! Fingers crossed that fill works for you. -BG -
:biggrin:Happy Friday all! It's been a stressful week, but the good news is I didn't stuff it down with food for once (it's still my first unconcious reaction, but I'm getting more 'aware' of it so I can stop it before I start reaching for the food). DD-22 YO, got laid-off/cut backs and she's crushed...life experiences suck when it's your kid. DS1 went back to college last weekend and he thinks he has the swine flu (4 hours away...I'm tempted to go). DH had his 'worst week ever' at work (they just went through cut backs and are moving to a new building). DS2 is happy as a lark...going skiing with the school club tonight. LOL...life is a roller-coaster (that I can fit on). I'm at 167.5...finally lopped another head off my ticker this week for 80 lbs. total! 1 more pound until a 'Normal' BMI...yes, I'm going to make you all call me 'normal' whether you believe I am or not LOL. Have a great weekend all!

JT- You already look great...and you'll be even hotter by June! Heather- Glad the doc's visit went OK...I'm can't wait to hear if this fill helps! -
Sherrita- Don't give up! Many banders were denied the first time and eventually got bands. Get on here in the insurance section and start asking questions. There will probably some people with your same insurance (the State groups is another place to ask). Insurance can be different from state to state and even city to city. If you haven't yet, call Aetna and get a copy of your requirements (I had to be above a 35 BMI with one comorbidity and complete a 6 mo. program, but I don't have Aetna). Good luck! -BG

I know you'll be there soon Jay Tee (you're my inspiration and I want to live that 100 pounds victory vicariously through you I don't know about you guys, but I swear there's some level of 'self-sabotage' that must unconciously happen as we get toward some of our bigger goals (I was stuck just before 'Onederland'). Maybe it's me, but doesn't it seem like you plateau at just the wrong time? -
