The Best Thing about Lap Band and New Years
Mayasgram posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This year and for the past 3 I did not have to make a New Tears Resolution to lose weight. Ever since I can remember I entered every New Years wishing I was thin and planning my diet . And every year I failed . Now with my Lap Band I don't have to do that ever again. Food is still something I eat but it has been replaced as my comforter and go to thing. I am finally free and I"m lovIng it. And my wish for all of you that you all can feel this way soon. If it were easy it wouldn't be so special , It was the best thing I ever did for myself and I want it for all of you. BEING THIN IS BETTER THEN ANYTHING I EVER ATE. And it last alot longer. HAPPY NEW YEAR may it be your best one ever. -
After 4 years I'm having pain
Mayasgram replied to Mayasgram's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been doing liquids and mushies but it seem solids are causing the pain and slime when I try them again. -
I had a smidge of a fill on NOv.26 and for the last two week I have had pain in my neck and shoulder like the gas pain after surgery whenever I eat. Has anyone else had this? I am also having stuck incidents with lots of slime. I did fine right after the fill but then like 3 weeks later this started. Anyone have any ideas. I am 90 minutes from the Dr. and I am not one to call with every pain. But this is strange so I'm curious what you other old hands think could be going on. Happy New Year!!!

Approved but have questions
Mayasgram replied to asr2468's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think everyone gets stuck once in awhile. The pain was managable just take your meds. How exciting to be the new girl becoming a bride. This procedure is a new way LOOKING AT FOOD. I am 4 years out and frankly food is just food it is not my comforter or my friend it is just fuel. On Christmas I enjoyed being the go fer because it was good but not the highlight of the day.I never lost any hair took biotin and vitamins -

My husband has celiac and he eats what I eat .I can't ever eat bread and once in a while I have gluten free pasta . It is a very healthy diet and you will feel great if you have celiac and you follow the diet.

How Did You Decide You Were Through Being Fat
Mayasgram replied to Mayasgram's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I forgot to say that fateful New Years Day I weighed more then the football players playing in the Bowl games. Can you just imagine how that felt? And they were moving their bodys around on a football field. While I sniffled on the couch . -
How Did You Decide You Were Through Being Fat

Oh I forgot to add on that Fateful New Years Day I weighed a lot more then some of the football players in the games .They always give their height and weight. Decided I couldn't be a linebacker so I was going to do something so I wouldn't look like one. -
How Did You Decide You Were Through Being Fat

You know we have all dieted and gained a whole lot . But one day it clicks and we say enough??? No more and we go to WSL .. For me I was in the hospital for emergency Gall Bladder surgery and said to the surgeon why don't you throw a lapband on while you are in there . And he said lets talk about that when we are done. First of all I was amazed he thought I was FAT enough to be a candidate(true denial) . Second my husband was onboard immediately(more denial)Third that I was actually FAT enough that BCBS would cover it. It toook me 17 monthes to get to the operating table but 4 days before I got the official approval from insurance happen to be New Years Eve. I cried myself to sleep I just could not face another year OF BEING FAT, and I said ENOUGH I will have this surgery and if I have to beg borrow or steal it I will self pay . Understand this was a luxury and I did not give myself luxuries ever. It was the cost of a Boat. A darn nice vacation or two. Something for the kids like a house down payment and I was going to spend it on just me???????? YUP. That was the day for me when I figured out that I was worth it. No more FAT NEW YEARS , no more I will do this on my own, no more guilt, no more shame, no more pills. I had to get to the point that it was enough and once I got there I never looked back. -
In Need Of A Little Support...
Mayasgram replied to sarahgee23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The pre op diet is for several reasons . Mostly to get the FAT out of your liver FAT liver no surgery folks have gone in and been closed right back up with a sorry. That was enough for me to be a belie ver. Secondly this is no walk in the park and with the holidays coming I think it will be even harder to be around food and others eating everything you use to eat. You will grieve food so prepare yourself for that. You will need to set your head on the future. I was banded in Jan. of 2008 and it was the first New Years that I did not have to think how FAT will I be next year, but instead how thin will I be. The diet is the easiest part of this. So keep busy do the protein my Dr said save your money and do Slim Fast shakes and eat the sugar free popsicle and dream of being a new girl next year. -
How Did You Get Fat???

Oh I don't think eating to 275lbs for me had a whole lot to do with food hunger. -

One of the best days of your life huh?? I was shocked at the choices you get in the Misses Dept. It took me hours to go through everything. I am just so happy for you . Nothing you ever ate tasted better then this did it? -
I was reading some post the other day and it got me to thinking. Several people were disappointed in there weight loss and were afraid they would slide back into old habits . There were also comments like I can not believe I let myself get this big!! This got me to thinking about myself what did I do to get up to 275 lbs? Obviously I ate , and I obviously knew what it was doing to me. But somehow it was still okay? WHY? What did I tell myself that made it okay to eat like that. I think you have to know the answer to the question ,How did I get so FAT? So you can learn not to believe the old self talk that got you there . Also what tactics did you use to sabatoge yourself. Once you know these things about yourself you have one more tool to use with the Lap Band . The band will help your stomach, knowing yourself and your eating or failure patterns will help you avoid them. You will know how you got FAT and how not to go there again. It really is that simple , I didn't say EASY..I think the biggest portion of weight loss successful folks will tell you the hardest battle is the one you have with your head and that is where you fail or succeed. When you know better... you do better ..... I didn't just wake up fat one morning it was a long process and I let it happen and finding out the answer to how it happened for me was the key to my keeping my weight off.

The Dr. I eat my Protein mostly meat it fills me the best and I was always a meat eater. I love a cup of V8 juice warmed up in the winter monthes iced in the summer and for a treat with a splash of vodka . Sounds crazy to have such a difference of opinion in the same office. I do eat vegtables and take a Vitamin... Just don't eat JUNK and stay at your portion size.... I wouldn't do pop very often but my Dr. said once in a while is a okay if it doesn't bother you. It's funny what becomes a treat once you lose weight for me in use to be creme filled Krispy Kreme donuts and at least 2 .. I never passed a Bakery I didn't like or a mickey D's carmel frappe at 450 cals as a chaser. Now it makes me gag... Yuk so much sugar.
