I have a story sad but funny. Or maybe I am just a twisted retired teacher. Sometimes you have to just laugh or you will cry. I asked my Dr about the Psych eval and did he ever have any problems. He said only one time was it serious. This women named Sue came in went through the whole process and got the surgery. But the next day Deb ate a whole chocolate cake Seems Sue wanted the surgery but Deb her dual personality did not . Dr swears this is a true story so to lighten your fears I repeat it. Sweetie you survived an abusive marriage you are stronger then you think to be in it and to GET OUT of it. Good LUck

Just wondering what you are wanting from dear old dad. You start out by saying he is supportive and you know he loves you. But you find his comments critical. Well I can imagine his seeing you slipping into the old weight gaining patterns is hard for him to watch. So he is trying to say STOP doing what you are doing while treading carefully . So I suggest you cut dad some slack and look at the person who is really responsible for you frustration. It is not his fault you have gained 50 lbs. And when you get serious about your issues he will be right there to support your efforts. Just like he was in the begining....

Have Fallen So Far Off The Wagon. Can I Get Back On?
Mayasgram replied to Media_Girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Looks like life has slammed you enough. Old patterns are hard to break in times of stress. When life is so stressful we reach for things that make us feel loved I would try the 5 day pouch test first. But if that doesn't work go get a fill it will have more meaning for you if it's a sacrifice .Should be around 100.00 and you are worth that. Nothing will feel better then having one section of your life in control and what you put in your mouth you can control. I promise you 100 times once you feel better about your weight and body , life will look so much better. Besides you have already lost an extra a--hole right????? Best of luck sweetie you CAN DO THIS ...WE ARE CHEERING YOU ON........ -
OMG I have been off living the good life on the beach the past few days and I come back to 'SHELF BUTT" All I can say the question my husband keeps asking me is where did your butt go................So I would say there is hope. You know in some cultures a big butt is an"asset" If it doesn't go away perhaps you can join the circus......................

Still Hurting And In Pain From Pb'ing
Mayasgram replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay heres the deal .........When the Drs office tells you to drink warm/hot liquids its not to punish you it is to soften the band so food can pass through it. Why call and ask and then not do what they suggest????? If you knew what to do you would have done it. You are more then likely swollen from vomiting so you need to do liquids and let it heal and go down. My Dr suggest that when this happens you take Childrens Benadryl liquid / not the pills in the adult dose. I don't know why this helps but it does, I think the antihistimines reduce swelling. You just need to let the irritation heal. You can drink hot liquids and your regular water later. -
The Definition Of Restriction?
Mayasgram replied to Sultan Dablool's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How much fill do you have you may need a bit more. Is it real hunger or head hunger? What happens if you do not eat... For me restriction is not thinking about food for 5 to 6 hours . Eating just a little and feeling full . Being to full is not being able to swallow food lots of reflux and PB ing for me restriction and to full is a matter of a little bit of fluid . Everyone is different. And remember just because you can eat it doesn't mean you do eat it. -
I am 4 years out and I still have problems laying on my right side if I have eaten later in the evning or drank a lot of fluids. Just part of the process. It becomes more noticable when the stomach fat goes away so I will take it...

Help Week 2 Post Of Bandit Hell
Mayasgram replied to lilbrigy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could do serious damage you are healing you do not want to get anything stuck because that could get real ugly on new stitches.... But even if that didn't happen ... you would open the door to doing it your way.... isn't doing it your way what got you to needing lap band in the first place?? This is your first curve on your journey are you willing to take the same route that got you overweight in the past. Do what they tell you , how they tell you no one ever died in Lapband hell they learn to be strong . If you make up your mind now to do it by the book and not by you the rest of the journey gets so much easier. -

Questions Questions Questions!!
Mayasgram replied to hh2291's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree totally with everything the other posters said I Love my Band but it is only a tool that helps you lose. Do what they tell you to do eat what they say and how much they say.................. It is no walk in the park but 3 years down the road you will get sick when you see others eating that full plate of food like you use to. I went to an Oktoberfest last weekend and I ate a small portion of everything when everyone else was eating seconds and apple crisp and ice cream I asked for more red cabbage not because I had to but I went for what tasted good to me that apple crisp was just to sweet in my before life nothing was ever to sweet...... My suggestion write a list of all the reasons you want surgery and refer to it when days get tough. Put down everything and check by it when it happens Best of Luck -
Don't buy them ,don"t smell them, don't taste even a littlle bit . If you can't handle sweets then just don't have them around. Your kids don't need them nor does your husband if they need something sweet let them go out and have it . I use to eat sweets all the time my go to food was chocolate now I can take it or leave it . It just doesn't appeal to me a little bit is more then I want I find when you STOP eating sugar it loses it's hold on you.......

Help! I've Forgotten How To Be A Bandster!!!!
Mayasgram replied to Firecallie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it was wonderful that Lovethenewme put all that information up for you. Thats was so kind and a lot of work. But I had to smile telling a overweight person how to diet with food is like telling a fish how to swim. We all know what to eat and not eat we have dieted are selfs in my case fatter.. We all have really good reasons why we have started to gain weight back illness, stress , special occassions , eating , I'm depressed, I'm happy and on and on. Truth is we fail because we want to eat to much and that is what got us to Lapband. So I suggest that you sit down and think about why you got Lapband ,how it felt when it was going good ,and how you stopped doing what was working, and why. You can not change what you do not acknowledge. Then put it behind you thats where a lot of my weight goes anyway and use what you know works . *8 glasses of water, no fluids 30 before or after, 1/2 to one cup of food protein first chew chew chew and stop when you feel full not when it's gone, Then go for a walk you will feel in control and thats where you want to be. Sorry if this isn't what you were looking for but I promise you it will work 100% for you if you follow it . -
Hungry And Newly Banded
Mayasgram replied to ameliamaebe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally was not hungry physically after surgery, but boy did I miss that party in my mouth. You know the taste the texture... But frankly I has waited so long 18 monthes for insurance on a one year supervised diet by insurance, and a Dr change that there is just no way I was eating one thing t hat was not on my list. And so it began, that road to healthy eating, doing what I was told , and how I was told to do it. Because my rebellious way sure had not worked for me, thats why I needed the lapband. I believe 80% of our hunger comes from our mind and 20% from our stomach. And when we learned to listen to the 20% we really get a handle on this food thing. And in the end that is what will get you to your goal weight . It's tough some folks call it bander hell the real battle is with your mind because you can do great on very little food especially when you have a lot to lose in the begining. Best of Luck you are not alone.. -
You are just at the starting line of your journey and I can not begin to tell you how great you will feel if you have a victory over hunger/yourself by following the rules. I swear to God no one ever died by following the plan.. It's just 2 days . Sure you could do what folks are saying but did you go through all this pre surgery stuff waiting for approval from insurance or shelling out 1000 of dollars to do what you want on day 5???? Think about it?

I wanted to like me..... No matter what I acheived I felt I didn't deserve it , no matter how much my good looking husband loved me I didn't deserve it. Every happy occassion and every sad bump in the road ... I told myself if I wasn't fat it would have been better. I did not like myself because I knew I just couldn't stop putting food in my mouth and no matter how hard I tried I failed. Sure I love wearing cute clothes but most of all I like the me thats in them....

In the early days I found that a couple of brisk walks a day helped with feeling impatient with my body it speeds up your metabulism and releases those good healthy feelings that I can not spell indorfiums . You are doing well but excercise may help speed things a long. Just think if you hadn't had lap band you would be 25 lbs heavier and depressed, I think you will settle for where you are now instead. And your future is going to be so much better....Good Luck

What Inspires You To Keep Going?
Mayasgram replied to knewland's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The clothes that fit , the 1 pill a day down from 6, breathing, compliments , liking myself , But most of all getting a handle on what food really is for ...it is to nourish your body not to solve your emotions . Thats what motivates me to never go back to being the jolly fat lady in the room. I have finally succeeded in the one thing that defeated me for years and nothing else I achieved from professional success to motherhood , to 40 years of a good marriage measures up to knowing that I faced my personal weakness and beat it and now I can find joy in everything. Overeating was my greatest battle , and I am motivated to never let it defeat me again... -
Is This Normal Or Okay?
Mayasgram replied to GeorgiaGirlie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG did you want folks to tell you 9 days out of surgery it was okay to eat solids . You can really screw up your healing insides. okay here goes NO it is not okay. That is if you intend to swallow it. The Dr has a plan for a reason it is not to make you suffer but to let you heal. During this phase you learn to follow directions if you already know better then the Dr and his plan and are doing what you want you are in for a long bumpy ride. Sorry if I sound harsh but sometimes we need a wake up call and I am just sayin Hello wake up.......... -
Are you never going to have anything chocolate again?? There are no good food bad foods there is just WRONG portions . If once a month you ate a red velvet cupcake the FOOD POLICE will not arrest you. The best day of your life will be the day you can say I'm not hungry right now so I will pass.

Me And Food: A Love/hate Relationship
Mayasgram replied to livingmydream's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am going on 4 years out and my experience is different. I eat what I want but just a small portion like a tablespoonful it staisfies that poor me thingy. I have become a complete grazer I look at everything and only eat what really rings my bells. I was at a pot luck last night and a friend had made this really yummy broccoli salad that looked so good and fresh and thats what I ate with a dab of a few other things . and a one inch piece of brownie that I cut off the huge brownie. Washed down with a cold glass of wine. It has been my experience when I say of I can't have that I get cranky . But if I permit myself to have a small portion of what looks oh so good I can handle that. Afterwards no guilt because didn't stuff myself I had a taste and in the long run it is just FOOD it is not my friend and I have stopped making it my enemy. For me I pick what I like eat a small portion enjoy it and go on with the rest of my life. -
I wore a sweat shirt and sweat pants I had one and half hour drive and I took pain meds as I got in the car and slept for the 11/2 hour drive Then slept when I got home and lived in jammmies for the next 4 days. I stayed one night in the hospital and thought I would die nurse didn't bring pain meds and then knocked me out. The next day we stayed in a motel because we needed to b e near the Dr . and then came home . I slept most of the time . I knock out after pain meds, my husband likes it that way no whining.
