Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less
BillOh replied to homewith2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To me, yes and I would do it again. As far as pain, 2 days of it with medication and a loving wife at my side was not too bad. After that its just another recovery that I'm guessing a 62 year old person has been through a couple. BTW, I am no longer taking any BP meds or use my CPAP machine. -
Congratulations, those are some impressive stats. Have you looked at thrift stores or places like the salvation army? My wife lost about the same as you and she used to buy some decent looking clothes at great prices, but you didn't feel bad, actually good, when they became too big. I used to think that those stores were for poor people to get cheap clothes, but the profit they make at the stores benefits the needy. So far I have bought a few pair of 34 waist jeans there!

But it does have that effect. NASA even commissioned a study on it, I use ginger for sea sickness, but ginger ale doesn't have enough ginger in it to be of any real value, but it seems pretty reasonable that clear beverages are more easily tolerated by those who are sick with things like the flu.

Just use some common sense. I assuming since you are sick, your not going to gulp down 16 ounces. If you sip it and go slow your not going to expand your pouch as so many here fear.

My anniversary is Thursday, I made my goal in August,(-78lbs) but I'm up about 7 pounds from it over Thanksgiving. I hope to be back at my goal before the end of the year. I maintained my goal for 3 months, this is the first bump in the road.

We have yet to have any accumulation of snow yet, but it has turned nasty weather wise. After easily making my 60 miles for November I was planning on cutting my goal back to 40 for December with the holidays and bad weather. I just get bored on a treadmill so I went out and found a local health club with an indoor track and pool. They also have 3 month memberships and I don't have to let them into my checking account (auto deductions)

Good luck with that 5k, You can and will complete it! Many people do run/walk combos in those races, just keep a steady pace, walk if you need to. Then you will have something to improve on. I will be entering my first winter since I started running so I will have to scramble to stay in shape till spring.

Approved for Lapband....How long until the day?
BillOh replied to minibikepilot's topic in The Guys’ Room
Your situation sounds like mine. Except I am 10 years older. I know longer am on blood pressure medicine, no more sleep apena, as for the depression, its definitely better. It was a great decision for me. Good luck. You mention being afraid, I certainly understand Looking back, there wasn't much to be afraid of. The only advice I would give, if your blood pressure medicine includes a diuretic, they will probably tell you to keep taking it, including the morning of surgery. I think that is a big mistake. Dieuretic's are not the most critical of medicines and missing a day or two usually isn't a problem (I AM NOT A DOCTOR) But I strongly believe the less you get out of bed the day after surgery the faster you heal. They were filling me up with fluids and giving me my dieuretic, they had me coming and going. -

FYI, I signed up for 1/2 marathon #2 today, and I am committing myself to run the full marathon in October of 2010. I am probably going to start a blog about it. I've avoided blogs till now, not thinking anyone really would care about anything I wrote, but I figured I would right it anyway for myself as I know a lot of people have running a marathon on their bucket list. -

I started around a BMI of 36. My doctor said I was the smallest person he has put one in. I'm days short of my 1 year anniversary and I have lost 78 pounds, am off of BP meds, no more sleep apnea and it was definitely the best thing I did in this past year. -

Running the Jingle Bells 5k to benefit arthritis tomorrow. Its supposed to be around 25 degrees! 5000 people are expecting and it goes right through the heart of downtown. I love running the downtown streets. I'm glad I bought those CW-X pants. They are warm. -

The Turkey trot was a great time today. Ran 49:13 for a 10k today, a new personal record! I broke my age (50) some say running your age is like shooting less than your age in golf. -
Openag, keep in mind if your good over this holiday, you may no longer be technically obese next week! I remember cracking that 30BMI mark. Good luck. I'm definitely scaling back miles for December/

Loved them. Its hard to imagine, but it really does lessen the effort by your leg muscles. I try to start off 5 and 10ks at a 8 minute pace, I usually end up starting my first mile in 7:40 or so. I did the first mile today in 6:56. Legs felt great today, the cold air was tough. The pants are definitely warm though. -

Tomorrow will be the test of the pants. I'm running a Beat Michigan (again) 5K before the game. I'll see if it feels any easier than before. Somewhere I have a picture of a woman running in one of those Sports bras during the Columbus Marathon where it was 31 degrees. (I ran in warm ups the whole way) I've always been a warm weather runner, but I find I get cold a lot easier now. -
How much fluid did you get you first fill?
BillOh replied to okiegirl79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 10cc band, I had to wait 2 months before they would do the first fill. They put in 3, thought it was too much (watching Fluid go down on the fluoroscope) backed it off to 2.25ccs, later I had another .25cc added and then I made my goal weight. (2.5cc total) -

I'll be -1000 calories even before I sit down at the table. Search active.com for a "Turkey trot" run near you! -

I have some really good reviews on runnersworld.com about their sport bras. I don't wear them obviously, just a fan of watching them. -

Bought a pair of compression running pants for cold weather, they arrived yesterday, will give them a try tonight. CW-X Conditioning Wear Supposedly they reduce muscle effort by 26%. Sounds like a lot. I wouldn't have been caught dead wearing something like this a year ago. -
I scheduled my 1 year follow up visit with the surgeon's office. It should go well based on my results, but they will do a full blood workup, that should be interesting. I've just had some blood work done by my neurologist and it showed me slightly low on B12, so I started a supplement. I would assume this blood work will be a little more complete. We will see.

Really tough 10k today, lots of hills. 51 minutes.

Anyone else signed up for a Turkey trot? We will be in Erie, PA visiting family so I signed up for a 10k on Thanksgiving morning, I'll be running with my nephew before he ships off to Afghanistan while his fiance, and my wife run the 5k. I'll be at -1000 calories before sitting down for dinner. -
when will I feel differently about me?
BillOh replied to rachnett's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there, it just makes it that much more worthwhile when you get there. My wife shopped at those stores for years, and I'll probably get this wrong, but there is a CJ Banks that is like Lane Bryant, but they have another store, frequently next to each other, but I remember how happy my wife was when she could go into the other store. It was almost a year, but she got there. -

BillOh replied to rachnett's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When? To me it is not a specific date/event, but a gradual perception that you will eventually realize. At work there are people I don't see every day and the same can be said about people outside of work, the more you lose, the more people make comments and suddenly you realize what you have done is significant.
