  1. Congrats on being so close to your goal. I assume a lot of people have seen the guy on Biggest Loser who had the bypass surgery and still was way over 400 pounds. I'm almost sure every program tells you this is a tool, not an answer. I wish that guy would keep his shirt on :cursing:
  2. I would find it tough if I lived in Buffalo, as I would be praying at the altar of the great Buffalo wing at the Anchor bar almost daily :cursing: I try to limit myself to one order of Buffalo wings a week and have done ok so far. 3. Well, I plan on making the thin mints I bought last several weeks in stead of finishing them off in days.
  4. That goes for seats at sporting events, theaters, and other public places. I think this spring we will go back to Cedar Point again and hit the coasters!
  5. Anyone else have a Wii Fit? I won't miss that tiny little voice saying, "That's obese!" (3 more pounds to go)
  6. My insurance requires you to be a BMI of 35 or a BMI of 30 with weight related health issues. I was a BMI of around 36 with sleep apnea and hypertension.
  7. At the risk of sounding like a little girl, I sit here this morning happy as can be over hitting two of my goals, and really close to one. Last week, I was able to put my original wedding ring on for the first time in years. I'm wearing size 38 jeans (no stretch :tt2:) and I'm so close to getting out of the obese category. I hope to be in size 34 and a normal BMI for my daughter's wedding in spring of 10.
  8. I'll do cake for the occasion.

    diet cola

My wife's nuitrionist gave her to ok for on occasional, slowly drank one. With the full bypass she can't drink 30 minutes before a meal, so if she drinks slow she is ok. You just can't drink "Mean Joe Greene" style anymore. (for the younger ones Google "Mean Joe Green Coke commercial)
  10. Looking at your signature, congratulations on some significant anniversaries.
  11. And being around for it. I totally forgot that my doctor cut my BP medicine in half and it remains normal, I hope to be off totally in Feb. I'm 9 pounds away from calling my sleep doctor and I'm expecting to be told me sleep apnea is gone. I was 250lb when diagnosed, so I figured I would wait till 225 to get retested. (My wife says my snoring has stopped) Oh, yea, 6 points from halfway! I expect the hardest pounds to be going from 201-199
  12. I haven't been filled yet, but I do feel some restriction. I can take a bun on a sandwich if I take small enough bites and chew a lot. It helps if the bun is moist with condiments or sauces.
  13. That sounds like me if I eat too fast, bite too big, or don't chew enough. Although not as dramatic as a full bypass, you still do need to learn to eat again. (Espcially people like me who could really shove it down fast. I can't/don't even try to drink water as fast as I use to.

    Weight loss slow

Too me the band is just a tool, find another way to help out. I know I have a lot more I can do with exercise than what I have done so far, but I am at -40 since I started the program and -20 since surgery a month ago yesterday, so it can be done. I think my biggest help, besides my successful wife has been by using the Boost Glucose control for breakfast. I've never been a breakfast person even when I was at my worst, but everyone says having something in the morning helps jump start your metabolism. These Boost, make sure you get the glucose control, this very low in sugar and very high in protein. I'm not 4 pounds from losing the obese tag. I've dieted before and lost weight faster, but I've been steadily losing about .5 pounds a day. With 76 days till vacation I'm thinking I might be at or near my goal weight. (I haven't had my first fill yet)
  15. I work with people in Minnesota who would say, "So what!" But it is minus 11 degrees here today! I've found after losing almost 40 that I get cold easier. I'm 10 pounds away from calling the sleep doctor and see if I've improved.

Wow, you have had 3 fills? I get my first fill in 4 more weeks. I can definitely feel the restriction of just the band even after all the swelling has gone down. My wife says my snoring has stopped, I'm hopeful I don't need the CPAP, which I haven't been using, anymore.

I see your in the same area. I regularly work with a company in Minnetonka.
  18. I understand how you feel, I'm a few weeks ahead of you so things are calming down. I'm just a little weird about feeling the port. After the swelling goes down and the incision heals you can definitely feel it. It might be the weirdest in 80 days when I am laying by the pool on the cruise ship. Its below 0 and snowing today, so I'll get use to it. I'll probably think people are looking at my incisions. Hopefully most of my stomach hair will have grown back by then.

    Catheter for guys??

They took mine out in recovery. SO I was doing the up down every 15 minutes.
  20. I normally do, this was an absent minded thing, I ate dinner a little later than normal , and happen to walk by my medicines and remembered I hadn't taken that evening's pills while not thinking that I had just finished eating.
  21. She should have said that post for April 1st.
  22. Anytime a needle is stuck in me, I have to look the other way. I guess that clarifies my opinion of this, though I hadn't heard of it till now.
  23. Thanks. My wife also says my snoring is gone. I'm waiting till I lose around 12 more pounds before I call my sleep dcctor. I plan on never going through another overnight sleep study:w00t: I would rather have a root canal:cool2: I think this sleep doctor will give me another 24 oxygen monitor like he did when I first came to him. sleeping with a clip on my finger is far better than sleeping with 30 probes glued to my head and body. During my one day stay overnight when I was banded, they woke me up twice for vital signs and my O2 level as in the low 90s. On my sleep study it dipped to 79.
  24. I was on soft food 24 hours after surgery so I had my wife make sloppy joes (my secret recipe) and taco meat and puree them with her magic bullet. They were great. I was just given the ok and had my first regular burger yesterday. As long as I ate slow and chewed well I was ok. For me, 2+ weeks after, if I take too big of a bite or eat two fast I know it, there is quite an uncomfortable, borderline painful feeling.

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

I had my follow up yesterday, surgery was on the 17th. I was on soft foods since surgery, but have been given the ok to eat whatever I want except raw foods. Told to take it easy on some other things. I've lost 16 pounds since surgery and 34 overall. Most important, to me, I was given permission to get in the hot tub again! Had a great soak last night. Oh, yea, first still scheduled for 2/20
