Are you getting anywhere near 60-70 grams of protein?

I sitll get hiccups if I eat to fast, but I remember that healing state. My doctor told me relax they will pass. The worst thing to do it tense up, that increases the chance of causing slipping while your still in the healing phase.

3 months later fighting with the hospital
BillOh replied to BillOh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted to follow up. After 4 months of fighting the hospital, they sent me dentist a check to have both crowns replaced. I'll have the work done in a couple of weeks. I really had to stay after them and keep hounding, but it got done. -
3 months later fighting with the hospital
BillOh posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted to add a 3 month follow up. My surgery went great, the doctor and the bariatric program were great, but the hospital's anesthesia team were a bunch of snakes in the grass. When I woke up in recovery, the Anesthesioligist told me they chipped a tooth removing the breathing tube and that a dentist would visit me before discharge to get it taken care of. I forgot about it and called the hospital several days later. The hospital's customer service department was slow to respond and I felt ignored. When I pressed the issue the Anesthesia Dept called back and tried to make me believe nothing happened. They actually made up things that if it went to court I could prove were lies. We aren't talking mistakes or documentation errors here, we are talking fraud. They told me that I was given an oral examination prior to being put under and chipped teeth were noted in an evaluation. I quickly replied that this didn't happen and why would you do such an evaluation and then not have the patient sign it? They also told me the report from the surgery reported, "No problems, smooth anesthesia process" Fortunately I had two things going for me. First the Surgeon came out and told my wife about the chipped teeth. Second, I haven't missed a checkup with my dentist in 25 years, no my dental record is complete. Only after getting statements from my surgeon and photo and written documentation from my dentist did they concede responsibility. They did $2000 damage to my teeth. At this point I am not going to name the hospital, because they are going to pay up and every other part of the surgery including the results, has been wonderful. I'll follow up when the work is done, but if this happens to you, don't let them discharge you till its fixed, or you get the intention to fix in writing. -
3 months later fighting with the hospital

Update: The hospital kept giving me the run around. I finally had my dentist take photos and describe the damage as well as document my dental care. Still, it took a letter by me stating that I was going on vacation on April 6th and I wanted an answer by then or I was going to persue other actions. That did it, they agreed to pay for the dental work at my dentist! My vacation date came and left, but they have agreed to pay and are making arrangements, slowly, with my dentist. The work should be done soon. -
Do you successfully use the downward dog position when you are stuck
BillOh replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to try it as well. Its a yoga position, not that I know what it is, but I'll try it. Try googling the term downward dog, I'm sure you will come up with something. -
I knew that of my past habits, that eating too fast was part of my problem. I am currently more than 3 weeks past banding and 6 weeks from my first fill. I was put last week on a pretty unrestrictive diet. I'm having very few problems. What I am finding though is that I am sitting down to eat, acting like my old self until the first or 2nd bite gets stuck. Wow is that painful and frequently leads to violent hiccups which are uncomfortable and sometimes painful. Its taking me a while to remember on my first bites to be a little more careful. If I do that, all is well. The only other problem I have had is taking too much to drink after a meal. I have always been a big Water drinker. Yesterday after my reasonable meal I remembered it was time for my evening medications. I took them easy enough, but then gulped down the remaining 8 ounces of water. That mixed with dinner and foamed up till I was ill. I did find a tums quick dissolve did settle that fast. On another good note, my family doctor cut all my blood pressure meds in half and will probably take me off them in late Feb on my next visit. I haven't had a BP over 120/80 since my surgery. I had a BP of 91/67 last night.

Carbonation - pop - beer
BillOh replied to hakunamatata_ca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We were told 6 months, but even after we rarely do. The main issue I believe is gas pressure. Picture shaking a 2 liter bottle that is 1/3 full. Then picture shaking a 2 liter bottle that is full. Your stomach is smaller so it fills faster, drinking fast is like shaking the bottle. Like food, you have sip slowly. -
Anyone else have lower back pain since surgery???
BillOh replied to ReadyOrNot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only recently but I can attribute mine to exertion, doing exercises I haven't done in 20 years. -
when u noticed these things...lol

My wife and a RNY last May, I had the band 12/17. Last year just before her surgery we went on a cruise. She had to have a belt extender to secure her seat belt. It was the last time we flew prior to our cruise last week. She sat down (she has lost 115 lbs) and she beamed ear to ear when she could buckle the seat belt. It was a great moment for both of us. -
I'm a light social drinker, but I waited 3 months. I think that was what my doctor told me to do.
-
Thanks, As of Friday I am no longer on Blood pressure Medicine at all. sleep doctor says after another 15-20 that my sleep apnea will probably be gone.
-
I hit a new low today as we are getting ready to head out on our cruise. I gained 13 pounds on our first cruise. Here is hoping I do better this time.

I thought I would give a few more details for those interested. While very successful in keeping the weight under control and getting lots of exercise. I did have a couple of problems. One was on the first day. This can get kind of gross, but I think this is the proper place to relate it. Normally when we cruise, my cell phone gets turned off as soon as we get on the ship. No cell phones, no internet is my idea of a vacation. This time I had to leave it on for awhile. We were cruising with my sister and her husband. They were flying in from a different city. We arrived an hour before them and decided to go to the buffet lunch. I was having a piece of chicken as part of a good choices lunch. My cell phone rang and I thought it was their number so I answered. Turns out it was one of my customers and I didn't want to say I'm on vacation and hang up so I talked to them for a few minutes and addressed their needs. There are two things I use to do a lot that I can't do and that is eat and talk on the phone or eat and drive. Sure enough I didn't chew well and got a piece of chicken stuck. My wife knows the routine, I think this is incident #3 or 4. I told her I was going to get up and walk. That frequently helps. As I was walking I past the station where you can buy the unlimited soda package, which we passed on for the first time on this cruise. However, now they are offering a package where bottled Water could be purchased and delivered to your cabin. While a bit pricey, I decided this would be a good idea. While I was filling out the paperwork, my blockage got worse and I broke out into a severe cold sweat. I was nearly in a panic mainly because on a cruise you don't want to appear to be sick in from of the crew as there is a risk of being put in quarantine for the entire trip. I got through that and went into a nearby Men's room with the intention of vomiting up the blockage. On this severe of blockage its the only thing that can be done. Wouldn't you know it there were 3 or 4 pre-teenage boys just hanging out in the men's room. The ship was filled with far more kids than we are use to as it was Easter week. Again I was suffering a lot of pain and waited till they left. The rest of the week we started each day at the gym and on the running track. After 30 years, it was great to run outside again! Royal Caribbean had some great choices every day including some wonderful sugar free Desserts. We did reward ourselves a couple of times after running an extra mile or an extra work out. Twice we used the ice cream machine and had a small cone. Once at dessert we had Royal Caribbean's legendary warm chocolate cake. Twice we shared tropical drinks. We ate lots of fresh fruit. I had one final incident involving not chewing the cheese a top the Onion Soup. Other than two times were I was careless we did a great job and have both already lost the pounds we gained.
-
I ended up gaining 3 pounds, lost it again in 2 days. I think I gained the most on the travel day back home, stuck in the airport for hours. I did have a diet related incident the first day. Will add more later. Hit the gym everyday and loved the running track.

We are back! Weigh in will be tomorrow morning to see how we did. I did have a couple of issues to discuss.

Apnea and will NOT use Cpap
BillOh replied to Lady Lap Band's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A pretty arrogant and presumptive post. I didn't tolerate the cpap and when I did use it all night, there was no wonderful feeling like you were talking about. I chose the weight loss surgery and have had great success. -
Apnea and will NOT use Cpap
BillOh replied to Lady Lap Band's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't read all the replies yet, but I strongly empathize with you. I had mine for more than 3 years and never fully adjusted to it. I did not wear mine before surgery, technically they said to bring it with you, I did not. They did keep me on O2 overnight and I stayed above 94% all night. Once I got to -50 pounds, my snoring stopped and my wife says I breathe normal at night. I had my visit with my sleep doctor and I'm considerably better, but not totally normal yet, he thinks another 20 and I will be. Hang in there. -
Tip for when you get stuck.....
BillOh replied to sfwaitinginma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The OP is exactly right about eating too fast and not chewing, and I still forget once in a while and I'm 3 months past surgery. While I will try their thought,it might be ackward in a restaurant. My wife can tell when I'm stuck because I suddenly sit up very straight like a bird dog that just caught a scent. This seems to stretch things a bit. Also getting up and walking around helps. -
I've been watching the weight loss progress in the signature of almost every message I read. How did you determine what your goal weight is? I'm guessing some of you are adjusting a couple of times till you get to where you think you should be. Others, like me started with their final end weight as their goal. Before surgery I was aware, but not really thinking about BMI numbers until I discussed the surgery with my family doctor. My BMI at the time was 35. He made me aware that above 30 was considered obese, and that 24 was the top end of what is considered healthy. Based on that I set my goal on here as reaching that 24 figure. That cooresponds to about 183. 20 years ago I got down to 195 and a lot of people said I looked great. That is the lowest my wife of 28 years has ever seen me. She has said that 183 might be too much. I'm wondering if I should have set my goal to 195. However its just a number, when I do reach 195 I guess I'll just continue to try and eat well and continue to live the improvements to my life and see where it goes. I don't see myself as getting too caught up and losing and going into unhealthy levels. I guess maybe what I am really wondering is what I will do when I hit my goal. I'm thinking I'll probably check my weight less often, but still keep an eye on it fearful of returning to where I was.

I'll bet you all can probably agree, nobody slaps you on the back, till you have a sunburn and nobody steps on your foot unless you have a foot injury. I've had this slight fear that someone is going to hit me in my port and I will be rushed to the hospital after it tears away from my abdomen muscles.
-
Have you been hit in the port yet?

Good point. One of my cats, Sidney, loves to "hup-two" on my stomach and I swear she knows something is there that shoudn't be. -
If we didn't live so far apart, we could smash them together. Actually, you can't sell them because they are a prescription, maybe their is a charity you can donate them to?
-
I'm totally off my blood pressure medicine and my average daily BP is 117/75. I went to the sleep doctor this week and I am almost cured of sleep apnea. We monitored my oxygen level overnight and while still technically I exhibit minor sleep apnea, it is a considerable improvement over what it was last year. The doctor has no doubt that after another 15-20 I should be back at normal levels. That certainly adds to the motivation.

I have been avoiding Chinese Buffets since surgery, so its been about 4 months. I ended up going there today. Overall, I did really well, but for me at a place like this I have to remember DON'T EAT TOO FAST. Normally I have my wife with me, who had the gastric bypass so we help each other. Today I was by myself so after a quick reminder from my stomach, I did pretty well. I was tempted to ask for the kids price since I have had surgery and have the card, but at this place, they found a way around that. :tt2: The kids price is 50 cents per year old. So the kids price for me would be $25 Well, I ate smart and still felt like I got a good meal for the $5.95 price. There is one all you can eat place here in Columbus called Mongolian BBQ. This place can be pricy, but besides the great food they are absolutely terrific about accepting the card and giving us the youth price. (We always tip based on the adult prices)
