Want to start running...need encouragement
BillOh replied to Claudine1975's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Well, the 5K went great, which will help my mood from what was turning in to a bad weekend. My previous best was 28:57. Tonight 26:20. I'm looking forward to see how that would hold up against other 50+ year olds. (50 on Sunday) Oh, my bypass wife (-120) finished the entire 5k running the whole way. She had never run more than 1.5 miles before. -

Thanks, I reduced the size of the photo, sorry about that. Tonight is a 5k that I hope adds a lift to a lousy day. This will be the last 5k of my 40s. Maybe next time I can win a prize in the over 50 group. -
Another 5k tomorrow, the last one of my 40s, Maybe I can win something in the over 50 group I'm hoping this feels easy after the 10k last weekend.

I've been at a plateau only losing about 1/2 pound every two weeks. For awhile, I haven't felt like I had much restriction. I made an appointment to discuss a fill for 6/1, but the doctor had to wax his surfboard in Maui, so it got put off till 6/29. Suddenly I have started to lose again, and I feel like I again have a good amount of restriction. I guess, I'll just go the visit, enjoy the praise and take their recommendation. My Goal, which is now about 10 pounds away is a preliminary goal, where I remember looking good. Once I get there, I may decide to set a new goal that would be a BMI of 24, which is the top end of healthy. Anyone else got a fill close to goal?

A lot of people say the acid reflux goes away with weight loss in many cases. I never had it that bad, but it has stopped.

Get another fill so close to goal?

I didn't think of the insurance issue, I'll keep that in mind when the year comes around. -
There was a long thread about are you telling your friends and coworkers about your surgery. I don't think this came up, but is a definite argument for not telling

I consider myself one of the top Buffalo Wing Experts in the nation (everyone has to be good at something ) While in moderation, I still love my wings. Next month I am one of the judges at a local event where we judge wings from usually 30 different restaurants. I use to eat the entire wing, but this time it will be a small bite of each. In Sept, I will be going back to Mecca (Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY) for the first time since surgery. I hope to be at my goal then and unable to finish 10.

First fill (yay!) But only 2cc?
BillOh replied to FarmGirl7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For what is worth, they did my first and only fill, so far, with the xray. They started with 2, went to 3, decided it was too much, backed it out to 2.25. With the Xray I was able to see how they came to their conclusion. How they do it without the xray, at least at first, I don't know. -
94 pounds already? I've been in a few of those GE Dash8 cabs, your job has to be getting easier too.

I use to say I hate to shop, but actually I just hate to clothes shop with my wife. (She is great in every other way) Actually I love to shop my way, get in, find it, get out.

Points for that one My wife and I have lost a lot and now can use a booth. On another note I recently heard a report that one thing former Fed Chairman Greenspan use to look at was Men's underwear sales because men will do without longer in tough times. It made me realize I need to buy ones that fit better, but I'm afraid of sening out false signals that the economy is getting better.

That opinion certainly sounds professional to me, I'm impressed. There may be nothing inappropriate going on, but it shows bad judgement. My wife and I are on facebook and everything is open to us both. I converse with several women on this forum, but I try to avoid private messages, but if I do have/make any my wife is free to look. One difference between my situation and yours is she already knew this. I work with a terrific young lady as a partner in my job, but I wouldn't consider emailing her, or any other type of electronic communication outside of work. I keep it strictly professional, I would think a day care provider should be treated in the same professional manner, but she may not be mature enough to understand. Also if he is totally innocent, he may be opening himself up to blackmail from her or some other seemingly innocent person.

I only want to add that I just discovered this section of the forum having recently only scrolled down this far. In one of the other sections I mentioned giving up my "man card" for looking forward to going to the mall to buy 36 waist pants and an Large shirt vs 42 and XXL. Now off to read other threads.

I just participated in an Mt Carmel thread. I'm not the only one here that went through OSU am I?
-
Well, in other threads I have seen people who had surgery with Dr Mikami and Dr Needleman, so I know your out there. Went to an OSU support group last week. Any of you here?

Does anyone PLAN on having the band removed once they reach their goal?
BillOh replied to sarae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I certainly understand the sentiment and as a walking billboard for success your opinion must be respected. However, I think her thought is very common and I shared it at the time. Many people choose the band, at least at first because it is reversible. I know that was one of the first things I expressed when I first talked to the doctor. I felt that way, but now am better educated. To the original poster, if you hit your goal weight and feel you have the discipline to maintain it, you can let all the restriction out of the band. At this point it is comforting to know that if there is an issue requiring the band to be removed it can be. As for her being ready or not, that is part of the long evaluation process and one reason you can't decide to have this done and do it the next day. -
Best choice I ever made!

Take that positive energy, remember it, and use it to get through the future. I'm down to losing about 1/2 pound every week or sometimes 2 weeks, but it continues to go in the right direction. -
That may be the hardest thing in sports to explain to someone who hasn't experienced it. I do remember it from my high school cross country days. I've come close to the feeling again during this 10k.
-
Wow, its great to see so many runners at or below their goal.
-
My 10k went really well. I think the half Marathon is next year. Congrats on going from 45-30 bmi in 8 months. That is amazing.

The great feeling continued through today. Down 1.5 pounds in one day. I'll have to work today to just maintain that. Next 5K Friday. -

Thanks, and I'm glad to report I exceeded my wildest expectations. After finishing two 5ks in around 29 minutes I just hoped to finish and be in around 60-70 minutes. I ended up at 59minutes flat with a strong kick at the end, just like I had when I was 17. -
Central Ohio Get Lapband Sharing - June 13, 2009
BillOh replied to SpecialK's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I certainly agree. My wife asked me how I felt before she did, and I was supportive and understanding and she more than repayed that when I decided to as well. We have been great for each other. -
