Does anyone feel like life with the band is too hard?
BillOh replied to lindsayb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People really notice when I'm the last one done as I was always such a fast eater. I end up taking the rest home with me. -
Bad surgery day stories
BillOh replied to dedumplinz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a great experience with the hospital and the Bariatric team. My bad experience was with the anesthesia team, and the customer service people afterward. I woke up in recovery and they told me that they chipped my teeth taking the breathing tube out. I was told a dentist would visit me before discharge. That didn't happen. I shouldn't have left the hospital without a plan to get them to commit to the repair(turned out they broke two crowns). Calls in the weeks afterward got me promises to look into it with no return calls. Later the hospital denied there was any problem and even went to far as to engage in lies and cover ups stating the teeth damage were noted in a report prior to anethesia. When I stated common sense would state that if such a thing happened that I would probably have been required to sign this prior to surgery, their tune started to change. After Surgery the surgeon came out and told my wife that this had occured. Next I had my dentist fully document the damage and give detailed records of my visits. I have great dental insurance and take full advantage of it. The damage would have cost $1200 to repair. After continous delays, I finally wrote the hospital a letter stating I needed their decision by a specific date or I would persue other methods of compensation. This finally got them to authorize the work by my own dentist. That was completed in June. The Hospital was great, the Bariatric staff was also great, but I wouldn't trust the administration one bit. I'm glad my wife was with me. -
Another question for my LapBand friends
BillOh replied to amceache's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She said she wasn't sure, which is probably a concern. From what I had read, most of us call tell you exactly how much of a fll we have. Part of getting where you need to be is relating how you felt at different stages and then relating that to the WLS staff. -
I've had no problems with pills. And as for BP medicine, thats irreleveant because I don't need them anymore. Something to look forward to.

My biggest problem has been cracking that 200lb barrier.

Wow, profound for a boyfriend, must be a good one. I know that helps, my wife and I had each other. Things are great if the economy would just turn around. -
Curious...what side is your port on?
BillOh replied to Rutiglius's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that is low, mine is right under my rib cage -
Curious...what side is your port on?
BillOh replied to Rutiglius's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is on my left, freaks my wife out if she accidently touches it. The cats tried digging it out occasionally thinking its a treat in my shirt. -
In the 1980 presidential election, it was thought prior to election day to be too close to call. Turned out they were talking to the vocal minority. That can be the case in many forums.

Normal seems to vary a lot with different programs and different insurance carriers. Many people here have said fills cost $200-300, and most people only get a few, for what that is worth.

when did you see a skinnier person in the mirror?
BillOh replied to ReadyOrNot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could almost mirror that statement. Looking back to April when I probably was 12 lbs heaver I saw a couple of photos where I looked really thin. I guess now I'm getting used to it. Although since I started running, I've suddenly noticed a big difference in my legs and backside. Most of my excess weight was in my gut and I am just now really starting to see a difference there. -
Anyone else experience this...
BillOh replied to Bino's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My wife has lost 120 lbs and saw exactly what you are describing several times on the way. -
Let's not dismiss the pyschosymatic (sp) effect either . I had an appointment for my 6 month follow up, my weight loss had slowed and I wasn't feeling any restriction, so I decided I would ask for a fill. 2 days before my visit I suddenly felt some restriction and dropped a couple of pounds.

Pain on left side- what is it?
BillOh replied to hopeful41411's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A casual thought, if leaning to the right helps, do it! Do some stretching where you lean slowly to the right and hold it. I felt kind of the same thing and I think I was babying the side where my port is and overworked the other side. -
Banded 07/07...needing to burp
BillOh replied to PSJ71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let us know in a couple of days. I had so much going on the week around Surgery that I don't remember, but since going to solid food, I've had no trouble (forgive the mans speak) "ripping a good one. In fact, if I'm eating too fast, that is how I tell if I'm stuck, it I can't burp, I'm stuck and need to sit back a while. -
I figured out a BMI of 22 would be 170 pounds, which, unless I start running marathons, isn't likely. Speaking of which, on facebook I made a joke about losing to Karen Carpenter in my last 5k, tacky yes, but I doubt anyone under 40 got the reference.

I've been waiting for so long, and now I'm on the fence, so I had to share. My progress shown on the bar below is based on my bathroom scale, its a good quality one and seems consistent. I've also been tracking my weight and looking at my BMI chart on the WII fit. They read a ltitle different, but both are consistent. This morning my bathroom scale has me at a new low of 201.5 and the WII fit has me at 199.9. I guess I'll wait for the bathoom scale for the official celebration. 1-2 weeks if I keep my recent pace. Oh, the Wii had me with a goal of 195 by today, I didn't make that, so it suggested I set a new goal of a BMI of 22. I don't think so, I'll have to figure out what that is in pounds.

What Happens When You Reach Goal?
BillOh replied to emmylou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as the racing, I would call it running, yes its racing, but mainly against myself. Most of the time they call them 5K run, or 5k run/walk. You don't have to be a threat to win to participate. -
Vaca time or Short term disability?
BillOh replied to eyezchu22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work for a fortune 100 company. My Boss was great about this whole process. He was a new first time boss and I put him into a situation he had to learn this quick. I told him I expected to be out two weeks. He came back and said, our corporate HR said is was easier to just pay me that go through the whole process. I did work Christmas and New years into it so I missed a few less work days. I didn't lose any vacation. -
How well did you lose in first few months?
BillOh replied to bevanfranks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My experience pretty much mirrored yours. I'm averaging about a 1 lb every 3 weeks now, but it seems to come at once, then levels out for a few weeks. -

Like a lot of people, I have missed a lot of subforums. I just found one called - Life near goal. - Life At (or Near) Goal Weight - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum
