    Long Island Surgeons ?

wow...it sounds like you have no regrets and you are loving the sleeve. That helps so much to hear that. how did you manage to get past any of the fear your might have had prior to the surgery?

    Long Island Surgeons ?

she must be fairly new to that group because I saw a another doctor about 2 years ago when I first started researching and he told me he wouldnt do my sleeve and he wanted me to have a bypass. he said id have too much scar tissue because of the band. I had my band surgery at that practice by Dr Geiss and I was surprised this dr wouldn't touch me. I didn't like him at all and i flt so hopeless so i looked into a few other drs and had consults with them to see if they felt the same way and they didnt. they did say it was more risk but felt it would be okay. im so confused Dr. McMullen is my surgeon!!! I love her and her staff. She's at Syosett hospital and manhassett too. My surgery is April 21st. Ask me any questions you want!

hi, im so happy to hear of someone else using him too. I didn't spend that much time with him but I did hear great things. Like i said I really liked Dr Buchin too. what made you decide to use him if you dont mind me asking? have you seen any other doctors? can you please tell us how your experience with Dr Brathwaite goes? id love to hear!! good luck.

i met with dr buchin once too, i liked him a lot, one of my favorites!
  10. wow everyone has been making such valid points on this topic. I can relate to the person who said, "Not one us thought the band would have such issues after 5 years and look at us now". I mean its true, right? i know I didnt think I would have a revision surgery because my band slipped and then that band slipped again and then I had it removed for good. I mourned the loss of my band even though it was making me sick, it was my only hope of having such a great loss and keeping it off. Although who knows if i would have maintained the weightloss, as I only had the band for about 3 years. anyway, Im afraid of the bypass myself, so id opt for the sleeve. I had 1 dr recommend bypass because of scar tissue issues but i also saw 3 other drs after him and none of them felt I couldnt have the sleeve, they all said if it were too risky then they wouldnt even attempt it. I read these posts everyday even though im on and off the fence about getting sleeved. I mean, i think Im giving myself one final chance at trying to lose some of this weight on my own. I think I know deep down that Ill need this surgery. I do have about 80 lbs to lose and Im tired of being depressed and looking around to see if im the fattest one arund or feeling less of a woman because of my weight. im just tired. Im so worried that one day 10 years down the road Ill need my stomach for something or maybe ill get some sort of complication that they never knew existed. i know, im paranoid and im probally over researching it. it helps to hear what other people on here think too. Thank for all the input.
  11. sounds like me. i did good with the band but had a slip too and i had it removed back in 2009. i regained all my weight and im struggling with the decision to have the sleeve or not. Im afraid!
  12. Im afraid I question these doctors too. i wonder if they are just telling us what we want to hear because we are so desperate to lose weight once and for all. I havent been sleeved. I go back and forth with the decision. I was banded though, I lost around 75 lbs, but had the band slip. I had it revised and it slipped about a year after that as well. I guess for me, i have been reading and researching for so ,so long and I cant help but see so many people go from one surgery to the next looking for that magic that will help them with weightloss. I mean when is enough, enough? when do we take accountability and try to help ourselves? Im not trying to put a damper on everyone, but this is where Im at right now, doesnt mean in a month ill feel this way, but these are the thoughts I battle in my mind. It like people who had the band go to sleeve then after the sleeve its a bypass then after a bypass its a revision to tighten the pouch etc etc. when does it stop? dont get me wrong.....im not against this, Im not very cautious because if everything i went through and Im dont want to make another mistake with something so permanent.

    brainwashing

okay, im not sure how to explain or put this out there, but anyone ever afraid this is like being brainwashed...lol. I mean, of course the doctors and staff are going to say great things and promote the surgery, after all its their busniness right? am i just paranoid?

    Anxiety and getting sleeved

They did a full Endoscopy yesterday in the main OR and my stomach is totally twisted and kinked, in order to fix is revision is required. This is VERY UNCOMMON and happens in less then .02 % of sleeve patients. :/ I just happened to be in that lucky percent, ugh OMG..... that scares me so much. Im so sorry to hear that your stomach twisted. I havent been sleeved yet but its things like that that worry me so much because I used t have the lap band and i was told that the chance the band would slip is very low, like 1-3% well guess what? mine slipped, i had another surgery to fix it and it slipped again. I was told they cannot say why it slipped, sometimes they just dont know BUT that it can be because I lost weight fairly fast and sometimes things shift inside and things can happen. So Im super worried that now my stomach will twist!!! ugh...... im scared

    Lap-Band Failure Rates

mandi that technique has been around for some time. i had my band in 2006 and it was stitched. my band slipped a little over a year later after losing around 70 lbs. I did have surgery to fix my band, but the dr did warn me that usually when a band slips that its common for it to slip again in the future. I still took that chance and sadly after about 1 1/2 years i had a slip again. at that point I had my band removed.
  16. hi, I read these posts alot and im deciding if the sleeve it right for me still. I see alot of people on here who are super strict with their eating plan and of course they are losing great amounts of weight, but what about those people who arent "perfect"? do they still lose a considerable amount of weight as well? Id love to hear from people who arent hard core strict with their foods and exercise and hear how they have done so far. I know a few people who had the sleeve and they tell me they eat the same as they used to just very small portions. Can that even be true? im sure they arent referring to cakes and chip and tuff, more so that they eat normal type meals, maybe chick cutlets, ect. Thanks for sharing your stories!!

    being "perfect"

I forgot to add that i RELIGIOUSLY track everything that goes in my mouth. The good the bad and especially the ugly. It keeps me on track and keeps me aware of what i'm eating. It's handsdown the most important part of making this a lifetime commitment. Im glad to know that this can be done without being "perfect". I mean, if i could be "perfect" then I wouldnt need surgery right? id be able to do it on my own and I find it so hard at times.
  18. hi. my question is do you think it is possible to wrap your head around the changes that will take place after surgery? can a person mentally prepare beforehand or is it something that you fully dont "get" until its done? I have been banded in the past, is the changes in eating sort of like when being banded?
  19. girliegirl

    wrapping my head around it

well i looks like you are doing good and i love hearing that you dont regret it!!!!

    wrapping my head around it

thanks for your input. i think i might be trying to over think everything. I want to be sure I know everything and all there is to know before and and sometimes thats not do-able.
  21. I was just curious. I had the band in 2006 also and it slipped, i had it revised and it slipped for a 2nd time about a year or so after the revision. then i had it removed in 2009.
  22. girliegirl

    being "perfect"

Sound like you are doing great!! i hope i can do that too! why do they want you to have so much protein? is it to burn fat? or keep you fuller?
  23. how long were you banded and did you have any success with the band before the slip?
