Looking for post-op surgeon in North Florida
outdoorgrl posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Does anyone know of a doctor in North Florida (Gainesville) who will work with patients who had surgery in Mexico? I had surgery with Dr. Ortiz in May of 2006 and have been doing well (72 lbs gone). I had arranged for post op care prior to surgery, but I have relocated for work, and would prefer to not drive the 3+ hours to that facility. I am concerned that I may have streched my pouch, and would like to follow up with a surgeon. I am new to the area, can anyone help? I am trying to avoid fill center's because I have not heard much positive about them, and I have not had a responce when I tried to get in contact with them. -
I have been away from the forum for a while, but have been concerned over the last few days enough, to re-visit. I will join the confession pool of admitting to eating too much, and like Marlluvia I have been having a burning sensation in my stomach. Does anyone have any explanantion? I have put myself back on liquids for 3 days, and then I will go back to mushies to see if that helps. I had surgery in TJ May of 2006, and had post op care lined up where I was living, but I have had to relocate for work. So now I am trying to locate a surgeon to provide care in or near Gainesville, FL. Thanks to all of you for being willing to share and provide insight.

Hi all, I am waiting to go to the clinic formy pre op testing. I have met 3 other people here all getting banded today by Dr. Ortiz. I am getting banded tommorow. I wish my sister was able to be here now, it would be nie to have someone with you to pass the time. I was finally able to sleep last night, which I haven't really been able to do this last week. I feel great today, a little hungrt and nervous but that is to beexpected. I think I am going to pass the rest of the time today shopping for supportive frineds back home and sitting in the sun, trying to get a tan. It is great to here the different reports, so it gives me the broad range of what Icould expereince after surgery. I keep hoping I am one of the lucky people that gets to feel good right off the bat, but I am prepared to not be. Here goes everything!!!

Okay so the time is really here, and I have just gotten the nervous excitment. For those of you who were aware of the issues of me letting my family know, I told them last night in an email. This was going to be the only way I was going to be able to get out all the factual information without anyone interrupting me. Anyway, I have had my sister running interference for me, but so far may parents are excited for me, just nervous about me going to Mexico to have it done. Anyway, I am feeling somewhat overwhelemd at the moment because of all the things that I still feel like I have to get done before I fly out SUnday morning. Reading everyones posts have been helpful, but I am still somewhat Freaking out...but in a good way. I could only imagine what would happen if someone took my vitals right now. Anyway, glad to know all are healing well. Outdoorgrl

There are two kinds of spray tan. ONe is when you go into a boothh and then the sprayer comes on and sprays you. Then you rub it into your skin so you can be sure to get the areas that are "hidden" from the sprayer. The other option is a person does it with an actual miniture paint sprayer. So while you are getting sprayed they may have you lift up some of the fat layers to make sure they get everywhere. The only issue with that is that you are in a room with another person pretty close to your body while they spray you. You can either be naked, or wear some type of covering. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your supportive messages! I think I am going to tell my parents before surgery. My sister is being very supportive in weather I tell them or not. I am going to take the easier road when telling them, and tell them thru an email so I can clearly explain without being interrupted. Who knows, maybe she will surprise me. If she provides me the responce I expect, I am still following thru with my decision, as someone said I am a grown woman and its my decision no theirs. Suppoirt me or not, it is going to be their loss. Thanks again for all your insight!! You have been more support than I ever would have thought.

I t has been a while since I tanned, but I use to work ina tanning salon, so I got to tan for free...good for buisness. ANyway here is what I know wabout tanning. There are 2 kinds of ray UV-A and UV-b rays. THe UV-A is typically what causes you to burn, and gives you the "reddish" tan, where Uv-B rays give you the "brown" tan. Most beds now days are mostly UV-B rays, and so when they are tanning to go on vacation so thay don't burn, guess what they still burn because there skin is sensitive to the Uv-A rays becuase thay have'nt exposed themselves. I have noticed that people who frequent tanning salons (I'm talking 4-5 times/week) have a distinct smell as well as an interesting "color". I use to use the tan enhancing lotion, some had what was called "tingle", but now i much prefer spending a couple of hours in the sun and enhancing my tan with either a spray tan or the lotion. Many tanning salons now do airbrush tanning, and it looks great! If you go in and are professionally airbrushed and then follow up with a good lotion your tan should last a while. There are some things you should keep in mind before you airbrush tan...don't have just gotten waxed (the wax could make it splotchy) and make sure not to waer clothes that you really care about beauuse some of it could transfer and stain your clothes. Also follow the reccomendations for showering and don't go to bed right after having this done. I'll share a funny story with you all: I had airbrush tanning done the night before I was in my friends wedding (after the rehersal dinner). I went home did some things and then went to bed. I fell asleep on my back with my hands on my stomache, woke up the next morning and I had stain all over my palms, AHHHHHH!! I was picking up the bride in 2 hours!! Well I scrubbed and scrubbed with lemon juice and finally got it to fade, not to mention that I now had an "tanline" of my hands on my stomache, not to mention the stains on my sheets. It gives me a good chuckle now, live and learn I guess. Outdoorgrl, To be banded May 30th Dr. Ortiz, Tijuana Mexico

Jeeze oh flips there are a lot of "May-B's"! It is amazing that there are so many posts per day. Keep 'um coming! The posts really are a huge support! I have enlisted the help of people in my office to support me during the pre-op liquid diet as well as the post-op. My staff are hugely supportive of this porcess, and I think thay are just as excited as I am. On the flip side, I haven't told any family members other than my sister(who is coming with me). My mother is incredibly judgemental and would probably be freaked out by the fact that I am going to Mexico to have the procedure rather than here in the states. My dad would be good with it. DOes anyone have any advice on how to approach the issue? I know I would tell her after I had it done, but I am afraid that she will be very hurt if I don't tell her until afterwards. I appreciate any advice that people have to give, especially from people who have judgemental familes, or currnet Moms on what they would want from their daughters. Thanks! Lorri, Who was your Dr in Mexico? I am not yet banded, and I am going to be o May 30th inMexico. From all the posts tht I have read peope have been told a variety of things about exercise. The biggest thing that I have read is to get up and walk everyday (times vary depending on the person). I would suggest just starting with walking, and then move onto other types of exercise once you feeel more healed. Good luck

3Loves, Thanks for the welcome! People have always told me I have a great spirit...I can hardly wait until the 30th. This is something that I have been trying to do for so long, it is almost hard to believe that it is really going to happen. I am a little concerned because I have modified my diet and increased my exercise and don't seem to be loosing weight. I am afraid my docotor is going to tell me "no" when I get there...I am hoping that the liquid diet will help.. Good luck to everyone having surgery today!!

Wow am I excited to read all of the posts from the May-B's. I scheduled my date for May 30th with Dr. Ortiz. I wanted it to be close to Memorial Day so I wouldn't forget my aniversery date...I tend to do that. Anyway, I appreciate all the info for the diet reccomendations. I keep thinking about how much I am going to miss food, but when I actually sit down and eat and pay attention to the flavor, texture and the time it take me to eat I fill up lots faster and actually enjoy it more. I am usually pretty active, but really surprised myself and my friend, when we rode bikes for 12 miles and she was more tired than I was. That is going to help my recovery more that I initally realized. Congrats to those are recooperating and positive thoughts for all! I read a quote the other day that keeps running through my head, which is "Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but rather the moments that take your breath away" ....just a little reminder to keep working to your goals!!! Any one use Dr. Daniel Huacuz-Tijuana?
outdoorgrl replied to weightshaker's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi all, this is my first post. I have been dilligently reading thru numerous postings , websites, heated discussions about Huacuz, etc. in my research phase. I have been doing lots of research, but the piece that has been lacking is specific feedback about Dr. Ortiz from his patients on this site. It is easy to read his testimonials on his site, but I would like to hear from y'all about him, his staff, his facility, and how YOU are doing now. I would like to know about follow up care and have you chose him or another physician. Did you feel as though you received enough information prior to the surgery about his post-op requirements? I have not scheduled my surgery yet. I am still goinging back and forth between US surgeons and Dr. Ortiz. THanks for any insight
