Food addict/ post op cheating...
joyoc51 replied to OreinaO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it is the foods that slip through the band that are our biggest problem. My dietitian likes me to eat proper food. i.e. a cup of coffee made on High Calcium/No Fat milk first at Breakfast followed by 1 weetbix soaked in the same milk till it is mushy. I use artificial sweetener as I like it a bit sweet. Morning Tea is fruit lunch is lebanese flat bread with shaved ham, tomato, cheese and low fat mayo rolled up in it. Afternoon Tea is low fat yoghurt dinner is Veges and Protein. As I can't eat much steak any more - only if it is sliced thinly and cooked to pieces - eat a fair bit of minced stuff. I also eat all sorts of Pasta. Dessert is more low fat yoghurt or ice cream. Alway drink before eating never the other way around or you just wash you food through. Hope this helps -

I am so happy I found this thread. I have been feeling sooooo guilty about eating too many sweets. I was banded on 3rd February, 2009 and have lost 18kg but I am disappointed in my behaviour. What I have read here in this thread has given me the courage to try harder and not give in to "head hunger". Otherwise, the band has been great. I feel sooo much better and look so much better. I can eat just about anything except fresh bread, cake and steak. I chew well and my meals are healthy. But my old habit of picking between meals - lollies especially are worrying me. Thank You all. -
Hi all out there, Does anyone else burp a lot in the night? I think I may be eating dinner too close to bedtime. Does anyone else get hungry at night and make the wrong choices? I'm terrible at night. I get into biscuits and ice cream. My husband keeps them in a separate fridge but I raid it.
-
Yes, I'm 6months down the track now also and feel just wonderful. It was the best decision. Getting used to eating smaller amounts took a little while. I've lost 18kg and have gone from a 24 to an 18. I lose a little bit every week, even weeks when I have had too much ice cream.

Hi, I'm heading in for my 3rd fill tomorrow. Dietitian thinks .2ml is all I will need as I am eating more than I should be able to i.e. a whole kebab whereas I should only be able to eat half. After my last fill I could only keep liquids down for days so I had a bit taken out and then I could eat more but it was painful. Turns out the stomach around the band becomes swollen when it is interfered with and it takes a couple of days of liquids for it all to settle down and before you can judge how much you can eat with ease. Loss so far 15kg but it has been slow the past month while I've been fiddling around with the band. Apparently this is quite normal and when we get the band tightness right the weight will start moving again.
-
Congratulations on going ahead - again. For two weeks before my band operation I was put on a protein only diet for 2 weeks to shrink the liver so the liver was floppy and more easily moved so the band could be placed around the stomach more easily.

I've just had my 3rd fill and have been "burping" ever since. Tummy rumbled all night interruping sleep. Anyone had this problem?
-
Hi, I had a fill yesterday, my 3rd. The port is in the middle just under the scar. My doctors can feel it with his fingers and I haven't felt any pain to do with the fills yet. It probably depends on how many fills your doctor does whether he/she is an expert at it.
-
Well I had a bad day but for the opposite reason! I had 1/2ml fill last week but can still eat heaps. Am really hungry in the afternoons and evenings. Tonight I ate my son's chocolate easter egg which I'll replace. Ate Beef and Black Bean Sauce with Noodles for lunch no worries. This can't be right. I think I'll phone the Doctor for another fill later this week if possible.

Did anyone gain a pound or two back after initial loss?
joyoc51 replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10 days after surgery and having lost 10kg my dietitian warned me that I wouldn't lose any weight in the next two weeks as my body had to adjust it's fluid levels and everything else after such a large loss over a short period of time caused by pre-op diet, op, and then post op fluids. She assured me I will keep losing if I just stick to the plan. -
2 Days out and in severe pain
joyoc51 replied to likeblanche's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I had the same pain on Day 2. I phoned my surgeon as I was beside myself. Once I started on strong pain medication and stuff called "degas" I was a lot more comfortable but still didn't start to feel well until a week had passed. -
Anyone banded Feb 3, 2009
joyoc51 replied to cmaneice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 3rd February also in Brisbane,Australia. Bad wind pains for first 2 days. One of my minir incision sites began to bleed yesterday so visited Dr. to discover a blood cloth near the surface. Nurse popped it and it is still oozing and sore at the site. All should be OK though. Port site is going really well and that is the one they worry about. liquid Diet going OK. Varying the flavours helps. Haven't got bad taste in mouth but have been thirsty and have upped the amount of water/diet cordial. Joy -
Anyone banded Feb 3, 2009
joyoc51 replied to cmaneice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was banded on February 3 also in Brisbane Australia. Had terrible gas pains after the op and the next day. Took DeGas and Nurofen Plus for 2 days but off all pain relief now. Yes, fitting in all the protein drinks is a problem for me also. I have to drink 100mls over half hour so Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner take 1.5hours each and 100mls juice at AM Tea take 1 hour and PM Tea takes another hour. But at least I haven't had any nausea or pain. I'm sore where the long cut for the port is. Sick of sleeping on my back already. -
I had terrible gas pains after the op. I had a terrible night in the hospital with pains right up to my shoulder blades. I phoned my nurse and she said I had more pain than most people normally get. Murphy's Law again!!! I took Nurofen Plus and DeGas and the next day started to feel a lot better. My tummy is still sore and swollen and bruised but it's only been 4 days. The weight is falling off me which is fantastic.

The only problem is people's tastes in clothes. I also have an excess of Size 22's and 24's which I think are really lovely dresses and shirts for a 57 year old. I have some family members who are big so I thought I'd ask them first and then give the rest to the Salvation Army/St.Vinnies or Lifeline. I also thought that I would temporarily shop for clothes at those stores.I looked in some stores recently. Some of their stock is amazing and as I'll only be in them for a short time I think that might be economical until I get to goal. Ssshhh!!!

Hi, I was banded last Tuesday. Had a lots of gas pain for two days. Still a bit sore but feeling better every day. Sipping is my new full time job. 100mls every half hour. This is the beginning of the next part of my life. The part where I'm not fat!!! Joyoc

What you eat on an average day?

Hi there, My dietitian recommends after the puree phase i.e. Week 3 and 4 post op, the following:- Breakfast: Half weetbix or quarter cup cereal made mushy with milk or half cup thick fruit puree. Mid-morning: 1 piece of fruit blended up to a thick but not juicy texture. Lunch: bowl containing half cup blended chicken (or meat or seafood or legume), rice or Pasta and veges. (do not use fats or oils in cooking). Mid-afternoon: Half tub yoghurt or low fat fruche or half cup of fruit blended with milk powder. Tea: As for lunch Supper: 1 piece of fresh fruit blended up or a snack pack of crushed canned fruit. If genuinely hungry before next snack due then use slightly thicker blends. Drink Extra fluids - not fizzy drinks. Wait at least 30 minutes after your meal before you drink any liquids otherwise you might get hungry. Drink no closer than 10minutes before your meal. I'm still sipping liquids for few more days yet. Joy -
I've got a date! 10th February Surgery! Thank you LBT members!

The anxiety beforehand was minimal. I was more excited to be done with this weight problem for ever. We can't help but lose weight with our band and we'll NEVER put the weight back on again. I've got Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate Modifast for meals and pear and prune juice for morning teas and skim milk for afternoon tea. Only had 1day of it so far and all is OK. -

Hi, Joyoc here. Had my band done Tuesday afternoon. Had a painful day yesterday as I had a lot of gas/wind pain. Today feeling a lot better. Keeping up the Nurofen Plus and DeGas pills and I'm fine. The op sites are clean and going OK also. I'm sip, sip, sipping as we are told to. Just finished Breakfast Modifast 100mls per half hour and then I had my Supradyn Vitamin Drink over another hour and now it's time for juice, another hour of sipping. Sipping is my new full time job. The new era in my life has now begun. Yea!! Joy -
Any February 2009 Bansters?
joyoc51 replied to exumtam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I'm from Brisbane, Australia and am being banded on 3rd February. The pre-op diet has been no carb/high protein and I've lost 5kg and haven't really been hungry. My dietitian warned me to beware that I might get the blues on day 2 post op and think "What have I done" but she assures me it'll will be magic. I won't be able to help losing weight and I'll never put it on again. Wow. Can't wait. The only fly in the ointment is that I resigned from my job due to stress and am coping with the baggage that such an act provides. As soon as I look decent enough I'm into a business suit and off for as many job interviews as I can. Joy. -

Hi, Yes I pigged out a bit before starting the pre-op diet. The diet has been OK. Haven't been hungry and lost 3kg in 1 week. My op in on 3rd February. Getting nervous now. Joy -
how long do I have to starve before lapband
joyoc51 replied to caregive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was dreading it also but now I'm in the middle of my two week pre-op diet. I'm doing well. I have Protein and free veg meals at Breakfast, lunch and dinner and modifast vanilla (only allowed vanilla) for morning tea and afternoon tea. Because I am a picky eater I am becoming bored with the same thing but if you eat lots of variety you'll be fine. I haven't been hungry yet and the weight is falling off me although probably only fluid!! Being banded 3rd February. -
Hi, I'm in the middle of pre-op diet - being banded on 3rd February, and was wondering the same thing. I've been sneeking the tiniest bit of tomato sauce because I just can't eat steak or other meats without. I'll tell my dietitian on Friday and see what she says.
-
Hi, My dietitian says that complete and sudden withdrawal of carbohydrates gives people a terrible headache so I have to have 4days of partial carbohydrate before the two weeks of protein only.
-
Hi, Thanks - I think!. Very graphic but good to be aware that such a thing might happen to anyone. Thanks for all the hints of which I've made a note. I start my pre-op on Friday this week and I am behaving like a dying man with his last meal. Having the feast before the famine. I realise this is silly but can't seem to change my mind set but determined to follow 100% from Friday onwards.
