Considering banding in Tijuana
lisanjason replied to JJgirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was banded by Dr Kuri in Tijuana.I have absolutely no regrets and have referred family and friends to him.My sister was banded by him in April.I go back monthly for fills and even then everything goes smoothly. He has done so many bands and is well known, and highly experienced.Just look up "lap band in Mexico"and you'll see his name everywhere.Good luck in making your choice. -
how can so little amount of food - help you lose?
lisanjason replied to Bella's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've kept my banding a secret from people at work too, they do question how I've lost the weight and question what I eat on this "diet" I tell them the truth..................no bread,no Pasta,no sugar,no fast food.............except maybe a hard shell shredded beef taco:heh: and I told them I only eat enough to take away the hunger but not enough to get that full feeling....................being why I eat so much less than before:lie: I just didn't want to have the pressure of everyone knowing I had surgery to lose the weight,in case the band didn't work for me.I didn't need them watching me fail, again.Fast forward to 7 months later,I can't change my story now!:heh: Point is,I can still eat out if I wanted to,I just make better menu choices and I always need a box to take the left over home.In fact my husband and I went to a Mexican buffet yesterday afternoon,I chose to eat meat and some Beans.I was done after a few bites. The cost is a little high for just those 2 things but I'm still able to be good company for my husband while he enjoys his lunch. About the Protein shakes.I took them for a while, while I was on the Liver shrinking diet and on the liquid diet post op,then I read that they actually make you gain weight after a while. The body doesn't work to metabolize this liquid so it goes straight through, sugar and all. Congrats on your surgery date.Don't worry it was just a dream..............but I wouldn't answer the phone if I were you! LOL!!!! -
Nochoice, Here's a better site.forget the other one I just sent, unless you would like to read up on the rationals of why to have protein in your diet and a bunch more interesting info. http://www.highproteinfoods.net/

How much weight did you lose the first month?
lisanjason replied to ginger's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was down 26 lbs 4 weeks post op.I was told about the "healing period" but after the surgery.I ran with it,I did everything I could to lose weight.I didn't want to waste that whole 6 weeks "healing" -
Newsho, Can you give me some info about where to start the process of having ins pay for procedures.I haven't started to see any Dr's for any "problems" with skin or back pain but would be willing to start to get ins to pay.Just have no idea where to go first.I have about 40 more pounds to get to goal but figure this fighting ins will take some time, right? If you would like you can email me privately................Thanks!

Hey that's what I use my treadmill for! I thought it WAS for hanging clothes on! LOL! So I guess I should get use out of the bowflex since I need to START on resistance training.I've mostly done only walking so I need to start building muscle tone everywhere else that walking doesn't touch.wheeeeeew............tired just thinking about it!
-
Has anyone ever tried the bowflex? I've walked 2 miles almost every evening since surgery which seemed to work really well for me but for some reason my weight loss has now stalled.I even tried adding jogging and riding the bike with my 2 yr old in the baby trailer to burn more calories but I'm still the same weight everyday!I know I am burning more calories than I eat,so I don't understand what the problem is. My husband ordered the bowflex the other night and I'm just wondering if anyone has used one or if they are even worth the money? I have about 40 pounds to get to goal and I'm so frustrated right now.I was going to finally join a gym because of the weight stall but now that the bowflex is coming I won't have to join one.Someone let me know what you think. Thanks!

Dewok, I had a kink! I was banded in Feb and after my first fill the Dr couldn't find any saline in my band.I had a second fill at that time and went home, I went back a month later, there was less saline than he had put in the last time,I then had a 3rd fill and worried I for over a month that I had a leak.I did have flouro each time and it never showed a leak or the kink. After the 3rd fill I still felt no restriction and that's when the Dr did a regular xray, and there it was as plain as could be! A twist and a kink.None of the saline was in the band,it was in this twisted part of the line.I underwent surgery again a few days later where they unkinked it,repositioned the tubing lower, tighter so not to kink agagin, sutured it back in and found that my band and port where still in perfect condition so didn't need replacing and they also found a total of 3.2 saline, which they left in and I finally had a perfect restriction. It's now been almost 2 1/2 months and I'll be going in for a small fill this Friday.I have about 40 pounds to get to goal and it just won't budge, hoping this fill is what I need to jump start the loss again. Good luck!

Who is having success with their Band?
lisanjason replied to NurseMichelle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had 1 complication so far, about a month after banding ,my line twisted and kinked shut so my fills were not getting to the band.So after 3 fills I never felt restricted. After an xray was done the problem was found and I had another surgery to get that fixed.I still have never had any regrets on getting banded.I've been banded a little over 5 months and have lost 83 pounds so far! I am so excited.I went from a skin tight size 28 shorts to a recent size 16! I am loving this band.I was never able to lose this much weight, ever. At first I wanted gastric bypass because of the fast results but I decided to get banded and just take it as it came,as it turned out thinking about the fast gastric loss and having the band instead has really motivated me to work harder and get the weight off sooner.I have about 40-50 more pounds to go and these last pounds are proving to be a challenge,my body just won't let go anymore for some reason! One day I'll get to goal.I know it!I love being banded and would..... and have recommended it to anyone who can benefit from one.My sister had hers done in April and has lost 40 pounds so far. -
I was told from the beginning that I should keep up with fills, every 4 weeks until I was at a good level.I took that advise and I'm at my 3rd fill which is were I've stopped..........for now. It's been a good one so far and has felt so different from the rest of the fills.By the way I'm another Feb 20th person

Wild, I was banded in TJ by Dr Kuri.I have no regrets,I would do it again in a heartbeat. The hospital was beautiful and top of the line, the staff was great. Dr Kuri is very experienced with banding and everything went smoothly.I paid $8995.including 2 night stay in a upscale hotel, transportation to and from the border and fills for life.

Hey Scott, I had surgery the same day as you and started at the same weight as you too!

New Medicare Rule! Can"t Get My Fill!
lisanjason replied to NeenBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Leenerbups, How far are you from Mexico? Dr Kuri does the fills for $95. with flouro. He will fill you even though you were not one of his patients. -
Does anyone know where I can buy caramel or coffee flavored protein drinks?I bought alot of them right before I had my surgery 4 months ago and now I can't find them anywhere.I think they were by EAS (?) I've noticed Walmart carries this brand but they only have chocolate and vanilla flavor.

Does anyone know how to update the ticker?

Ok I think I should get on the ball and start tracking my food intake again. Been so busy this week.:faint: Hubby and I built our own 12x40 redwood patio in the backyard,in 4 days! Point is I've been so busy I haven't been eating well at all.Lost 8 pounds in 4 days, that's how busy I've been.:omg: All 4 days I've eaten a 1/2 of a chicken hard shell taco at about 9 at night when we have stopped for the day.We finally finsihed the patio tonight,so tomorrow I start to eat again, nothing to keep me busy anymore.:nervous I have a good fill though and that's definaltely helping. This Saturday we are having a party for my son's birthday.I am looking so forward to that cake! :hungry: That's all I can think about..........................hey I deserve a little bit, don't I?:girl_hug:

To tell you the truth,I did think this band would be for a lifetime,at least that's what we are told at the orientation with the Dr.He probably forgot to mention,we will be paying to have new ones inserted every now and then through out our lifetime!
-
They never mentioned I would get to pay less because it was only a kink, they just kept repeating "the Dr isn't charging you anything,it's the hospital that's charging you" Like that makes it any better.I felt that he should have took care of this fee. I too used everything I had to pay for this band. That's why I told them to cancel the repair.I had NOTHING at all to pay for it with.I'm already paying monthly payments for this band and probably will be paying on it forever,so when I told them I had no money they called me back and arranged a monthly payment plan, but even that just adds to payments I'm already making for the original surgery but there was no getting around it I guess. I hope you are one of the lucky ones that doesn't have a complication. Are you saying everyone does eventually? I wonder if I'll have more in my future? Scary thought.

Sunta, I had the same thing happen to me after my first fill. When I went back 4 weeks later the Dr found my band was empty! I got a second fill and 4 weeks after that went back and I had .5 less.He thought for sure I had a slow leak,he filled me again and told me to watch my restriction level, which didn't last and I ended up going in for a repair this Tuesday.I went through the whole surgery and they found I didn't have a leak but the tubing was twisted and kinked and all the fluid was trapped in the kinked part of the tubing and not reaching the band. They fixed the kink and found 3.2cc in there! They put it all back in and now I have a good restriction.I just need to recover from this newly made port incision now,it's like starting from the beginning again, slowed down my walking that's for sure!
-
MickeyScott The Dr claims he's not charging me anything at all .............but that the "hospital is charging"I think this is how he gets around to charging for everything cause he also uses this excuse for fills, which states everywhere on his pre-op papers and website that "fills are free for life",when fill times come around he charges $95. each one....... for the "hospital's flouro" which he won't do any fills without flouro! Anyways,I went in for the repair on Tuesday went through the surgery again where they reopened my port incision scar, got to the port and found that the line was twisted and kinked tight. That is why everytime he was trying to withdrawal the fliud at fills,it was empty.the kink was causing a suction which tightened everytime he withdrew. They unkinked it repositioned it to a lower area and sutured it back in.I'm now recovering from another port incision.Once the line was unkinked, they found all the Fluid that was "lost",so I know have 3.2cc instead of the 2.2cc he thought I had.So I didn't have a leak.

Teresita, I've had this band for 3 months and each time I went for a fill,I had less fluid in the band.I think I got a defective band to begin with.I've always had my fills with Dr Kuri,so no one else has messed with my band but him.He doesn't know why there is less fluid all the time but says he thinks I must have a slow leak.He didn't tell me where he thought it was leaking from.I think that Inamed will reimburse him for the band or the port and give him another one (not 100% sure) but he says he's charging me the "hospital's fee" for replacing it.In my opinion,it's unfair that I have to pay to replace a defective band.I just paid $9k 3 months ago! As for eating,I am so stressed,I just don't want to eat,I'm afraid I'll gain back what I worked so hard to lose, but being stuck at this weight has me so discouraged too.:think I know I have to take in more calories,I'll work on that.Thanks.
