I can usually lose 5 pounds quickly by eating only meat, poultry, and eggs, nothing else. And lots of water. I bet it will work for you too!! -

I have my surgery the 24th and sounds like we are similar with the back problems. I have quit the anti-inflammatories, but he didn't tell me to stop any other meds. Did you stop pain pills? I would die! -

Preparing for My Surgery
jms462001 replied to JulieInApex's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm scheduled for the 24th too!! They had to change my pre-op app. to the 19th. I started the pre-op diet yesterday, the 10th. It consists of light Protein Drinks, chicken, turkey, egg whites, and tuna. I am still sampling Protein drinks to find the one I can drink without gagging!! I'm waiting for the nectar one's from the Vitamin Shoppe recommended by the nutritionist, and some light Muscle Milk. Hopefully I will like them better! Good luck to you on the 24th!!!! -

A bit off the subject, but you have done so well. Could you post a couple day samples of how you eat and also how much you exercise? Congrats!! I hope to do well also!! -
Hi, I know this is old, but you are close to me. I am getting banded on 11/24 and I was wondering how you are doing up to this point and your thoughts on it. Thanks
-
Well, I start tomorrow on the pre-op diet. Mine is protein drinks with 0 fats or sugars and I can have chicken, turkey, and tuna. The chicken and turkey can be put in broth. I also can have sugar free jello and any 0 calorie foods. I think I can handle it as he didn't put any restrictions on the amounts!!

I also have an HMO and they will pay for nothing with WLS being listed as the reason for the test. I also have a Dr. who is ordering every test under the sun. Even my primary is a bit surprised. I think they want to maintain their record of 0 fatalities in surgery. And, it is really good to have some of those heart and lung tests. I did read about one woman who discovered a heart problem that would have been deadly had she only had an EKG and not been required to see the cardiologist and go through a rigorous series of tests. Now, this does not make me feel much better as it is probably costing me about a thousand extra!! He is not, however, making me repeat tests I had in the past year such as an abdominal ultrasound and pap. I do even have to get my mammogram which I let go over by 2 months. My insurance had better cover that!! I thought they should cover the blood work since that is supposed to be done routinely every year or so anyway, but they won't because a lot of additional out of the ordinary things are being tested due to the surgery. By the way, I have Healthnet HMO!!

Protein Powder Smell
jms462001 replied to scubadarz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what kind of shakes my Dr is going to make me drink. But, he did say that I must only use the kind the nutritionist tells me too. He said many patients do not have good weight loss and it's because they are drinking protein shakes that are not thick enough. -

I have a surgery date of 11/24. I had a consult on Wednesday. My HMO will not cover it and since I have spinal stenosis needing surgery, severe arthritis in my knees making that surgery not feasible due to being unable to do the rehab after, I decided I would just have to finance it. I am so tired of being in pain every minute of the day and being unable to do hardly anything. They asked when I wanted it and I said ASAP. I was really thinking Dec!! Anyway, I have daily apps. getting all the pre-op testing done. I have to do a two week liquid protein diet. I simply cannot drink anything that tastes terrible. I have not read about anyone liking these drinks yet. Can anyone recommend a protein drink that actually tastes good that would be acceptable??? Thanks and good luck to all!! I saw several 11/24 people!!
