How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
jms462001 replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds good!! And I guess you still have no problems with it? My first is Tuesday! I still get full really fast and don't eat very much or get hungry very often. Occasionally I have a day that my appetite is more, but I never get hunger pains....ever!! I have to ask questions on Tuesday because I still don't know what size band I have or how much fill he put in when he did the surgery!! -
Vitamin supplements...

I believe it's totally true about the low carb diet. I followed the atkins diet for 5 years and rarely ate carbs. I would not even eat fruit to any extent. After 5 yrs, I decided it could not be healthy and I changed my diet to include lots of fruits and vegetables and whole grains. I never ate processed foods or sugar. My weight started going up and so did my Cholesterol and triglycerides. When I was living on on Protein in the form of eggs, meat, poultry, fish, butter, oils, cheese and small amts of veggies everything stayed normal. I never ate anything "low fat" because low fat in a bottle usually = higher sugar, higher carb. I ate plenty of chesseburgers without the bun!! I still don't think that can be healthy long term and now I am trying to stick more to poultry and fish and very lean filets (which is probably all we can eat anyway!) My point is my body cannot tolerate whole grains! -

vitaminshoppe.com has the citrate. The carbonate are bad for us banded people. -

I ordered some calcium citrate wafers from vitaminshoppe.com They have a very good sale on them right now and I heard that they taste quite good. It has to be better than swallowing those citracals! -
Well, you didn't mention any pain involved with your fill so that was promising!! Do you feel more restriction yet? No problems eating or still mushies? I ordered some calcium citrate in chewables. I tried swallowing my cut halves at bedtime last night and that was a big mistake. I had to stay up an extra hour because they just don't go down for a long time and I can't lay down. I have no problems with my other meds. How's it going with swallowing pills after the fill? Hope you do great with your fill!! 4 more days for me!!

How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
jms462001 replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A guy in the support group from the center where I was banded, went 8 months before he got his first fill. He lost 100 pounds in that period. He then plateaued and got 4 fills over the next 4 months. -
Mine allows drinking Water right up until I start eating.

I wonder if it is because you guys got your first fill before you were healed enough. At my 2 week post op visit, I asked why I couldn't get my first at 4 weeks post op, and the Dr. said I just would not be quite healed enough and had to wait until the adhesions were totally formed or something like that. I was still sore last week anyway! -

I was banded the same day as you! You are doing great! Have you gotten a fill yet or are you scheduled? I'm scheduled for next Tuesday. Like you, I still get full fast and feel some restriction so I don't know how that will go. Also, I am scared of getting something stuck!! I am so careful to take small bites and chew so much. So far so good and I have had a variety of foods. -
Anyone have this problem
jms462001 replied to bubblegum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would guess you have lots of company on this board or we would not all have been banded!!!!!!!!! Hang in there! -
I thought that was what I had to do before I got banded because I had read that a few times times. Thankfully, I don't. But, if you think about it, it really doesn't make good sense. That would be 3 hrs with each time eating with no fluid. If you had 3 meal and 2 snacks, that would be 15 hrs a day with no fluid!!!!! When are you supposed to drink 64 oz of water???
-
I think you have the right idea. And, it looks like it's been working for you too!!!!! Congrats on your great weight loss!

I think these are all guidelines and as we get more experienced we will find what works best for us. As long as we are getting in all of our protein and other nutrients and losing steadily, I don't think we need to be really that rigid. I know some days I am really hungry and eat more small meals and other days my appetite is very little and I may only eat twice. I am not going to eat if I am not hungry!!!!!!! If I am hungry 7 times, I will eat some extra protein. My body will tell me what it needs.

Is your calcium the citrate or carbonate? I am looking for some good chewables because I have the citracal as advised to get and they are huge to swallow even cut in half and I should take 3 a day!! I need some good chewables, but we have to use the calcium citrate. Where do you get yours? Thanks -
5 1/2 years Post Op and having problems
jms462001 replied to Less2Luv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have little experience, but I would say you certainly should see your lapband surgeon. And, I think you are supposed to have a checkup with him at least annually anyway. I know mine insists on doing that scope test to look at the band every year which I think is a good idea. You should probably take this question to the complication thread. Good luck to you and please come back and tell us what you learn -
Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?

I weigh the same naked at home and clothed at the Center! -
How did your fill go??? I go next Tuesday for my first. I eat regular eggs with cheese too sometimes. I really think eggs are very healthy. I alternate with the eggbeaters. I think we need to remember to get our good fats every day too. When I make eggs, I use olive oil and I use that heart healthy mayo in the tuna. Cutting out all fat is so unhealthy and will cause problems in the long run. This may be why many banded people on here (older ones) report hair loss, low body temperature (feeling cold often), lack of energy, touchy digestive systems, and stalled weight loss.
-
I guess I still have some restriction. I don't have it real wet, but it is not dry either. It does, however, satisfy me for 3-4 hours. One thing I did find with the eggbeaters was that I can add plain protein powder to it and not notice that it is in there. It is the only food I have mixed it in that I have not minded. I haven't really put it in many foods, but I don't care for it in oatmeal.

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
jms462001 replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to never weigh food, but to measure and not eat over 1/2 cup always starting with protein. -
I have the lemonade Isopure and hate it!! I can't even stand the smell. It's just a matter of taste! That's why I like it when companies give samples. I have about 4 huge containers of protein I can't use.
-
I mix my tuna with heart smart mayo, sweet relish, and sometimes onion. I love it!! A can tides me over for a long time.

Im depressed and its Christmas.
jms462001 replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tuna and eggs are fairly inexpensive and provide lots of protein. I think if they are made into a salad with lowfat mayo and relish, onions, etc. they are not too bad. It fills me up for quite awhile. -
For those wondering about flying...
jms462001 replied to littlefroggy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was reading a few horror stories concerning flying the other night. I plan to speak to my Dr., but would love to hear from anyone with solid knowledge. I have been traveling to West Africa two or three times a year and plan to go again in a few months. I can't imagine not eating for 24 hours (including transport and layover which allows no time). I also cannot imagine getting there and needing an emergency unfill as I read happened to a couple people. What would I do???? I am hoping this is very rare and guess I just want some assurance from people who have travelled far.
