Reflux is often a sign you need a very slight unfill.......even though you think you can eat ok at dinner time. It might make a difference and you might have better weight loss too.

My Dr. said the biggest mistake people make is going right back to eating after getting stuck. -
Can Anybody Relate?
jms462001 replied to HelloSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally jinxed myself with this post!! I had not eaten much all day, was busy, and didn't have that much appetite. I had just 1/2 cup of beans for dinner and started feeling hungry around 10. So, I had a whole bag of protein puffs and then an hour later started eating a high protein cinnamon crisp bar. I have not had a problem getting stuck in quite some time and I really think this might have been the two bite too much thing, not sure. Anyway, it hurt and I had to drink a small amt of water to get it to come up. Not much even had to come up for me to feel better, but this morning, I waited several hrs to take my two am pills and they got stuck so I did have swelling just from that episode that wasn't that dramatic. I am now on liquids the rest of this day! -
Band slippage and erosion
jms462001 replied to andy343858's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slippage can be caused from overeating and vomiting. Usually slipped bands require surgery to reposition them properly, remove the stitches and restitch. -
How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
jms462001 replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really sorry to hear that. It doesn't sound like typical slippage. I wonder if it is something even more uncommon or something due to the way the surgery was done. I do hope you have a good outcome and they take the best care. Keep us updated. -

Anytime you get stuck and have to throw up, you should never go right back to eating. At least wait until your next meal. And, if you have a bad episode, you need to go on liquids for at least 24 hours and then soft foods. You could cause damage if you go right back to eating after throwing up. -
It takes a lot of time and work to chew and eat solid protein so it will go down well. I have almost fallen asleep eating sometimes!!!! This is why I sometimes just choose beans or something easier. But, I'm still glad I got the band!!

Any Advice on Getting "Unstuck" Quickly?
jms462001 replied to Holabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are eating small bites, chewing properly, etc which you probably are since you have been banded awhile, you probably just need to have a very slight unfill. It definitely would not be good for us to do this often!!! -
very slow digestive system...has anyone else experienced complications from this

I think soy Proteins cause me lots of gas which would make sense since soy comes from Beans. I often do have the gas build up too along with constipation. I have the same surgeons you had!! -
When you get food stuck and vomit you usually have swelling after. For this reason, most Dr's have us go on a liquid diet for at least 24 hours and then soft foods until you feel like you can eat normally again. Usually, we are told not to take ibuprofen, but it s often suggested for swelling. Perhaps you could get some children liquid if you don't want to swallow pills or get the gel caps and try that if you feel the swelling is really bad. If you are still worried tomorrow or having a lot of pain, call your Dr. I've gone through this a few times. It sucks, but a day on liquids usually settles everything down, Good luck to you!

You have probably not lost just because of the liquids after the fills. You are maintaining a 40 pound loss so you probably do have restriction and are eating a lot less than you realize!

Do you gain on liquids after fill?
jms462001 replied to megster27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After both of my fills, I lost 5 pounds quickly. I guess all of our bodies are different and with women it probably depends on when you have it done!! -

I see now you are early on and probably haven't had a fill yet. You do need to discuss the vomiting with your Dr. when you go in. Lots of people never can eat things like wheat thins. Later you should be able to eat solid proteins if you take small bites and chew really well! -

When were you banded? Have you had a fill? If so, you probably need to have a slight bit removed. You need to be able to eat solid Proteins for good weight loss. Good luck to you! -

I was not eating much and not losing and my nut said it was because I needed to eat more. I started eating a couple TBS of Peanut Butter at night and within a couple days started losing again!! -

to fill or not to fill?
jms462001 replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not go. I had my 2nd in Feb. and I'm just now debating whether to get a 3rd, but I think it is time now. If you have restriction now, you don't want to risk being a bit too full on your vacation!! -

If you go to bariatricschoice.com you will find a lot of high protein snacks, some which you will be able to have now like puddings, and some you will have to wait until later. Check out the nutritional info. My nutritionist says to make sure the protein content is always higher than the sugar and of course I look at the calorie count. They have many high protein snacks you could carry at work. My favorites are the cinnamon crisp bars and the Chef Jays protein Puffs. I use both frequently. Also the meat sticks are surprisingly tasty!! Their items are expensive so I started googling and found them cheaper elsewhere, but initially tried things on there. The peanut butter chocolate bars really satisfy cravings too! All of those snacks are high in protein. -

jms462001 replied to Chincotigger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just had a surgery not even 3 weeks ago, you are working 12 hour shifts, on your feet, you are still carrying a lot of weight, and you wonder why you are drained?? You would have to be superwoman!!! You must have been quite tired with that schedule before the surgery. You are doing what is most important in getting as much protein in as you can. Try to keep the ready to drink protein at work (really cold) and sip those along with your water. I like the Muscle Milk lite RTD shakes and still drink at least one every day. Try to rest when you can and it will get better.......especially when all the pounds start melting off in a few months. You'll have lots more energy and it will all be so worth it!!! -
