Anyone lose any rings?
jms462001 replied to BillOh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My rings are all too big and lost my blue diamond pinkie ring a few weeks ago while out. I really need to get my rings resized. -
Very discouraged! 9 months post op and 50lbs lost.

Are you eating any oil like olive oil on your salad? try adding some nuts or peanut butter. You may not be getting enough cals. -
Does anyone feel like life with the band is too hard?
jms462001 replied to lindsayb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find eating out with people so much more enjoyable, especially the yummy food part. The reason is that I have to take small bites and chew so much that I savor the flavor so much longer. The problem comes with everyone finishing long before me, but most will be patient or just have another drink or dessert while waiting. Some hope to finish my food too!! It really does get easy and soon it will just be a way of life for you and you won't even think about it. It's all routine for me now and I can't even express how happy I am that I did it. My only regret is that I didn't do it at your age!! Then I wouldn't be suffering today with severe arthritis and spinal disease and I would have fit into sexy jeans when I was at a sexier age!!!!! Good luck to you. You will do great and you will be so happy you did it!! -
Did anyone else have a problem with phlem?
jms462001 replied to karibensea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had it the first month, may have now, but not as aware of it. I could always feel it at night and felt I needed to bring it up in the morning. After the first month or perhaps a bit longer, it subsided. I do often have some sinus problems so it may have contributed to it some. -
How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
jms462001 replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I see many of you getting serious this month about your weight loss. I need to join in. I was doing fine up until this month, losing a bit every single week and never having to relose a single pound. I went to CO on the 4th for 5 days and gained back close to 2 pounds. I ate things that have not touched my mouth since surgery or much longer!! I have had some stress lately (isn't that an excuse for eating with lots of us?). I have some gyno problems and have been referred to an oncologist. I have a question. Does anyone know if we need to get unfilled to have a hysterectomy or any effects such a surgery will have on our band or things we might need to do differently?? -

Do I really need first fill?
jms462001 replied to RUKidding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wait until you stop losing, are hungry and can eat more than 1/2 cup of solid protein and get hungry every 3 hours or less. Some people do not get a fill for 6 months or more and lose well. -
How long does it take you to eat a meal??
jms462001 replied to NYGirl82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't insulted at all! I respect your answers and expertise on this board. I just think for the most part Dr's should stick with the surgery which they are expert at and leave the food part to the nutritionists. That's just my opinion. I would never eat more than the 3 or 4 oz of steak over the longer period of time as that is all I would have available to me, but you are right......we all differ in what works best for us. I only do one real meal a day usually, Protein shakes and a latte in the morning, and a protein snack or two when hungry. -

jms462001 replied to NYGirl82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say that's malarky about negating the band if you take over 30 minutes to eat a steak. I doubt he has any research to base that on. I might be wrong, but I know there are times at work that I take an hour to finish a meal and I still stay full for 4 or 5 hrs. I don't understand his reasoning. I guess it all comes down once again to our using common sense and finding what works for us that's not going to be detrimental. -
What does it mean to reach your "sweet spot"?
jms462001 replied to FailureIsntAnOption's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. has me stand after the needle is in and I chug water as he fills. I let him know when it backs up. Worked fine the first time, but the second time I thought it was fine when I left. It seemed ok the rest of the day, just a bit slow going down (liquids gurgling). The next morning I had to get some removed as I could not get water down. So, it doesn't always work perfectly. However, I have only had 2 fills so perhaps there is something to it that works well!! -
Lapband Friendly Restaurants
jms462001 replied to FarmGirl7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The senior menu offers healthy choices at smaller portions and prices also. I have found some of the higher quality restaurants do have healthy choices on the children's menu. I don't eat out that often, but I'm a real cheap date now!! -
Anyone ever heard of a band "exploding"
jms462001 replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone said to me the other day "I hear you got that rubberband?" She actually thought it sat on the outside of my stomach too!! -

jms462001 replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People are stupid. -
I think one loses restriction.
-
I left that part out! I think the people did have to get their bands unfilled before the liquid diets.
-
It is true! I actually do wear a smaller size now than I did when I weighed 15 pounds less 25 yrs ago.......at least in jeans. I have read numerous times that people have shrunk their pouches after a week or two on a liquid diet. Good luck to the poster with that.

Is vomiting really that bad???
jms462001 replied to lipstix64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bringing food back up before it reaches the stomach is what your Dr. is telling you to avoid as well. It most definitely causes problems or can. -

jms462001 replied to FailureIsntAnOption's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It also means you are losing steadily, but able to eat solid protein without pain or PB'ing when eating properly. -
Am I just sick or has my band slipped?
jms462001 replied to Ineedalapband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are probably just sick, but if you get worse you should contact your Dr. or call Mon. if you are not feeling much better. -
fill-to do or not to do?
jms462001 replied to erikaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't want to be too full. You are losing just fine. I had 2 fills and have been losing at the same rate as you without getting another. -
How long does it take you to eat a meal??
jms462001 replied to NYGirl82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really depends on what the meal is. Steak could take me 45 minutes. A bean dish would probably be more like 20. -
8-10 pounds a month is a good avg although many do lose more at the beginning. Some do not start losing for several months or until after several fills.......same with restriction. We are all different so hang in there!
-
too tight or just right?!?
jms462001 replied to ReadyOrNot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You and Ready or Not both need an unfill, however much is needed so you can eat a half cup of solid Protein properly without any pain or problems. If you continue being too full, you could cause damage to your band and as a previous poster said, you will stop losing and start gaining eventually. -
I think when most people refer to PB'ing on this board they are referring to getting stuck and bringing up food. It's not vomit, but sometimes can cause a lot of stress and swelling and sure isn't fun! I think most consider it more than a burp to make food go down so they can continue eating.
