I don't think it's true. Acid would be a problem if you had open incision wounds, but lap-band patients don't. That's more directed at RNY or DS patients, who have had the actual stomach cut and have wounds that would be exposed to the contents of the stomach. They aren't supposed to eat pepper, garlic, acidic foods, strong spices, etc. for a while after surgery, just for that reason.

Hi vinesqueen! Remember me?

I get so irritated with people that seem to think that Christianity should get a free pass, just because it's Christianity. Know what I mean? Personally, I think a radical extremist is a radical extremist, whether he/she is a Muslim extremist, Christian extremist, or Hindu extremist. One isn't somehow more acceptable than the other.

Liquids go straight through the band, unless you have eaten solids, in which case they can push the solids through and then go straight through. With bypass, I could see a doctor ordering people not to use straws or drink too much liquid, since those patients have only a very small stomach. Lap-band patients don't. We have what is basically a two-chambered stomach, a small upper pouch and a larger lower pouch. Liquids pass straight through the upper pouch to the lower one, so I would imagine that you would probably have to drink a large amount of liquid before you could possibly do any damage. That's also why the "no drinking before meals because the liquids can make you feel more full than you are" advice is not true at all. The only reason we feel full with very little food is because the upper chamber of our stomachs fills up. Liquids consumed before a meal pass straight to the lower chamber, so they have no effect on how quickly you get full.

The sense of entitlement that certain students seem to have is outrageous. Some of them seem to think that because they are paying to take a class, they should get a guaranteed A. I've had people come up to me at the end of the semester and beg me for extra credit. Of course, they're always the people that NEVER took advantage of the extra credit assignments that I offered during the semester. I always tell them, "Sorry, I offered you extra credit, but you never did it. It's too late to worry about your grade now; you should have thought about it earlier in the semester."

Okay, so for the midterm today, I had the exam set up like any other lab practical. Anyone here who's taken a biology class should be familiar with the format, where you move around the lab and have a bunch of stations with different questions set up. How fucking hard is it for people to grasp the direction of "when time is called, follow the arrow on your current set of questions to the next set?" Every time I give a lab exam, I have people who apparently don't know that an arrow pointing to the right means that you need to move to the freaking right! Every. Single. Time.

Guess what the hospital billed my insurance for the surgery? Just under $50,000. And that didn't even include the anesthetist's bill or my surgeon's bill. Of course, I requested an itemized bill. It's outrageous how much they charge for things. Example: I was charged more than $30 for a MARKER, for Pete's sake! And I don't even know what they used it for!

It's past 1 AM, and I should be in bed. I have to give them their midterm tomorrow and I need to get there early to make copies and set up the exam. It's an hour-long drive, and I need to be there at 8 (at the very latest), so I should be getting up at 6:15, I guess. That gives me 45 minutes to shower, dress, and make a run by Starbucks on the way out of town. But I'm not sleepy, damn it!

I never did respond well to people trying to tell me to do something. It tends to make me want to do the opposite. I figure, if she wants a B in the class, she better do B work.

Sometimes, I get very nauseated after I eat. I've noticed that the last few times it has happened, I had waited until I was very hungry before I ate. Have any of you had this happen?
-
It's definitely possible.
-
Well, she's on a scholarship, so hopefully that means that she'll do better. She managed to inform me, though, that she has to make a B in my class in order to keep her scholarship. Hint, hint, you know.
-
Yep. That's going to ruin my afternoon.
-
Yep. One girl skipped an entire page of questions accidentally. She made a 47, by the way, which will probably not endear me to her mother, who happens to be the secretary at the college (an extended campus of my university) that I have to be on good terms with if I want my day to go smoothly.

I actually like the Nectar Fuzzy Navel protein powder. I mean, it's not exactly juice, but it tastes a lot like those orange/pineapple/peach mixed juices to me.
-
Yep, that explains why I don't like it, then. Splenda is NASTY if it's used in high enough quantities to sweeten anything. Tastes like a mouthful of metal to me.

Wasn't it Sandy that got caught with sockpuppets?

Why do protein powders have to take up so much space!
anonemouse posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have four types of protein powder and a very small kitchen. And of course, each of the protein powders came in a freaking huge jug or giant bag. They should come up with a more convenient way of storing them. If you get any variety at all (I don't want to drink the same shake every single day), you wind up using all of your counter space! -
You were ALWAYS decent to me, so there's no hard feelings towards you from me.

It's who you're thinking of. I wish her the best with her pregnancy, but it doesn't change the way she treated me. I was absolutely humiliated. I had NEVER been treated that way before, and it just stunned me that she would treat someone like that with no more provocation than she had, and in front of the ENTIRE board, no less. The very least she could have done was to confront me through PMs instead of on the board. I'm sorry that she's had a tough row to hoe, I really am, but it doesn't mean she gets a free ticket to be vicious to people and treat them with so little respect. I'm sure she can be a really nice person, but that wasn't my experience with her.

Some of you might find this interesting. Personally, I'm a little irritated. Of all the people, HIM! I would have prefered John Edwards or Senator Biden. Anyway: My brother apparently just married into Fred Thompson's family. His new wife's cousin is Fred Thompson's daughter-in-law.

Ditto. I loved that!

I think you're right, WASa, at least to a certain extent. There's no other way to explain how certain members of Sandy's group have reacted. I mean, you give them evidence that is absolutely irrefutable, showing that Sandy has lied to them and that she really isn't what she claims to be, yet they choose to attack the messenger instead. It's completely insane, and the only way I can explain it is by what you've said. I mean, we're not angels here, by any means. But we've got a designated place to bitch, moan, and fight. It STAYS in that place. We can disagree with each other here, have absolute knock-down drag-out fights, yet we still support each other on the rest of the board. At OH, the bitching and fighting spreads from thread to thread. There's only a thin veneer of support there. People turn on each other without a second thought. People read that and think I'm joking or exaggerating. I'm not. You can be friendly with one another (or as close as people can get without ever meeting or talking to each other in person), but there a definite sense of clique-ishness. If you happen to say something to the wrong person (very easy if you don't spend all your free time on OH and observing), people treat you differently. Hell, I wound up with someone on my friend's list that I later found out HATED me, but she was perfectly nice and friendly to my face (at least, until I happened to get on her bad side). I had to have my account deleted because I became the easy target for people to attack, just because I happened to speak up in defense of someone that the clique hated (the very same person from my friends list that I mentioned before, ironically) and told EVERYONE involved to grow up and act like adults. A person that I prefer to refer to as "the psycho-bitch" (or PB, in a pinch) attacked me out of nowhere in a thread, with absolutely no provocation. It got to a point where I could no longer make ANY type of contribution to a thread without wondering if I was going to be attacked, just because some people had drawn lines and made an arbitrary decision that I was on the wrong side. It's crap. And that just about sums up my opinion of OH, to be honest. :speechles With all due respect, OH hasn't changed an iota, IMO. I was over there this afternoon, checking to see if there were any goods tips being posted. It was the same old fight, just a different topic. People still get absolutely BLASTED for stating their opinion. SandyR is still there, with people supporting her (for incomprehensible reasons). There is still fighting going on in threads, people are still allowed to censor what's said in their threads, the mods don't do CRAP, etc., etc., etc. It hasn't changed one bit. Different people singing, maybe, but still the same old OH tune. You are right about one thing, though.... There are good people at both places.

Yep, I've been taking it easy. I'm supposed to be eating only pureed-texture foods until tomorrow afternoon. But it's amazing how much less hunger I've had and how quickly I get full. Plus, I finally learned why sipping is required. With my other fills, I could drink relatively normally, but with this one, I have to sip.

Went down fine, just like eating other types of beans.
