I'd be a little ticked off, too. Let him know that while you love the fact that he loves to cook, he needs to start trying more healthy recipes. Veggies, tofu, lean protein, that kind of thing. For all of your family, not just you. Remind him that he needs to learn to eat well-balanced diet and that you need to teach your kids to eat a healthy diet, also.

being jerked around by Dr. Meji.. Athens, GA
anonemouse replied to pattychat's topic in Rants & Raves
Right, that will go over well. He'll really want to take on a patient that got her online friends to harass him. -
I'm sure it was. :guess Look, it isn't that I really dislike you. I just don't trust you. One minute, you're making nasty posts and stirring up trouble on OH about Wendell, and the next you're PMing and emailing people to try to get a look at his blog. I don't trust people who try to play both sides of the field and hope people don't notice. We do.

I found a lot of tofu recipes that sound really good. There's veggie recipes at the same sites, too. Go here and here.

Honestly, it's a lesson to the rest of us. I'm not suggesting that we all become hypochondriacs and start thinking that everything that happens to our bodies is because of the band. Obviously, that's stupid. If, though, we suddenly have an onset of symptoms after a problem with the band, the first place that we ask advice should be the surgeon's office, just to be on the safe side, rather than a website.

She didn't ask for suggestions on the board until she had that bad episode of PBing. No mention of constipation until she had that. And she was apparently thought it was severe enough to ask for help on the board, since she'd already tried MOM unsuccessfully. She said she had pressure on her diaphagm and some sort of other pain she had had previously when constipated, and because of that, thought it was constipation. Again, this occured after her severe PB. Even Dr. C recommended that she go in for an unfill immediately. If she had, her erosion may have been caught sooner. And while she may not take other opinions over her doc's, she took your opinion over Dr. C's. She even posted that she felt well enough to avoid going to the doctor, afterwards. Normal constipation is one thing. Sudden constipation after having a severe episode of PBing is another. I'm not saying that you caused her to lose her band. We all know that it was unavoidable at the time. But when a medical situation might be related to a potentially severe band complication, "talk to your doctor" should always be the first advice given. It's not exactly a leap to think that the two may have been connected, that she really wasn't truly constipated at all, just experiencing similar symptoms. Again, she was already eroded at the time. Nothing you could have done or said could have saved her band. But if she'd gone to see her doctor or surgeon instead of asking for and taking online advice, she may not have gotten as sick as she did.

I ditto the Centrum Complete orange-flavored chewable Vitamins. chewable vitamins taste a heck of a lot better than liquid Vitamin, IMO. Just the smell of the liquid is almost enough to make me gag. And a word of wisdom: If you start taking calcium citrate, make sure you buy the chewable calcium citrate. Otherwise, they are mega-pills. I have an entire bottle that I'm having to split because I forgot to get chewables.

Why are my co-workers so obsessed with food?
anonemouse replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's shocking, isn't it? I mean, until I was banded, I'd keep up with the best of them. I look at my parents and friends now and wonder how in the world I used to suck down that much food. People eat so much more than they really need to survive. I'll eat with my parents, and my dad will eat a huge portion of lasagna, garlic bread, veggies. And then he'll go for the ice cream or cookies. It's really mind-boggling. :faint: -
Restriction is great! I'm actually having to force myself to eat because 1) I'm not very hungry at all, and 2) nothing sounds good! No cravings, nothing! :whoo: :clap2:

I haven't really felt like that since this last fill. I mean, I really do have to almost force myself to eat. I'll be hungry at first, but once I start eating, the food isn't really that appetizing. Before this fill, I was almost compulsively eating. I'd have to force myself to stop because I got uncomfortably full, yet I still wanted to eat. I went to Starbucks on my drive back to Kentucky on Thursday and basically had to force myself to finish my drink (just an iced coffee with a little cream and vanilla syrup). I didn't even get the size I was usually getting before this fill. I had to sip it so slowly that it was a little watery towards the end. Before, I'd suck down a large iced coffee in less than 5 minutes. I don't know what it is about it that is curbing my head hunger. Maybe it's just that I was never really a grazer. In the past, I'd always wait until I was absolutely famished before I'd eat, and then wind up hoovering a massive amount of food. If I didn't wait so long, I never ate a huge amount. Maybe this fill is just putting enough pressure on the nerve in my stomach that I never get to the point of feeling like I was starving. I don't know, but I like it, whatever it is. :biggrin1:

I can dig up the post she made, saying that she took Milk of Magnesia and did a Fleet enema (which, since she talked about doing the MOM and what you suggested, seems to indicate that you recommended the Fleet), and said something along the lines of "and everything seems to be improved." And she posted about everything happening, complaining of both abdomenal pain and something that she thought was "constipation" that occured after she had a horrible episode of PBing. Makes me wonder if something else was going on that made her just think it was constipation and that doing what you suggested relieved the symptoms just long enough that she put off going to the doctor, like Dr. Curry recommended. Of course, you didn't cause her erosion. That had already happened. But it may not have gotten to the point it did (days of hospitalization, infusions, etc.) if she had gone to see her doctor earlier. See, giving recommendations on a website is kind of a double-edged sword. We really don't know if what someone thinks is wrong is what's wrong. It's just a reminder that giving out well-meaning advice might have effects that we didn't intend, especially if someone chooses to take our advice over a physician's.

I wish I could only wash my hair every other day. But it seems to be super oily if I go between days (I naturally produce a lot of oil and have the skin to prove it.) and it has a mind of its own when I've slept on it. Literally, it stands on end (occasionally in a mohawk, too) and won't do anything unless I get it soaking wet, in which case, I might as well wash it.

Getting to restriction is a real pain in the ass, but it's wonderful once you are there. I'll think good thoughts for you and I hope your banding goes well!

See, I don't really think that's inconsiderate. I mean, heck, skinny people have to eat, too. I doubt it would have mattered what was brought in, people would have been enticed by the smell. Is the office staff not supposed to eat just because they have patients that can't? I understand getting irritated at people because they get to eat what you and I can't. And I really understand being shocked by the sheer amount that unbanded people can stuff their faces with. But I really don't think most people are intentionally being insensitive. They're just eating. I don't think they should have to eat unappetizing food or have it delivered by the back door, just to make us feel better. -
I'm sure the reason that no post can be found with your actual suggestion of an enema (otherwise known as a colonic) in it is because you made it through PM or email, not because you went back and deleted it when you first read this thread. Right, Nancy?

I'm loving this. After my 2nd fill, I had good restriction for a few days, but it faded. I just got my 3rd fill (to 2.2 ccs) yesterday, and I can tell a major difference. I'm hoping that I'll keep this restriction. :bounce:
-
No offense, Nancy, but this post by BAShinn indicates otherwise: She'd previously made a thread about being constipated and in pain after a severe PB session. And of course, as anyone familiar with her knows, she eventually wound up having to have her band removed.

being jerked around by Dr. Meji.. Athens, GA
anonemouse replied to pattychat's topic in Rants & Raves
Like Faith said, Wasa has a good point. Every single one of the OP's posts have been basically the same post. All of them. That doesn't endear her to people, as much as we may sympathize with her. When you want someone to answer your question, you make a thread about it. You don't make identical posts in every single thread that you come across. It's considered very bad netiquette. -
Unfortunately, there isn't one near me. I'm basically stuck buying stuff at Kroger or ordering online. I haven't tried Stevia. I've really gotten used to drinking tea unsweetened, so adding sugar or other sweeteners really makes it too sweet for me, in most cases.

Actually, she joined in 2006. And if I didn't have so much restriction, I'd make popcorn! That is, if I had it in my apartment. :heh:

I tried the 300 year celebration this morning. It's very good.

WooHoo, side of page ads gone!

Thanks! I did that and it gave me pretty colors! -
I don't think this is very likely to happen. I mean, if it was, more bandsters would be told that they had to take antibiotics, and I've never heard that before. Plus, if you make sure that you are going with a reputable tattor parlor, it's not likely to happen. That's another reason why bargain-hunting is bad when it comes to tattoos. One of the recommendations that I've heard reputable tattoo artists say many times is that when you looking for a tattoo artist/parlor, you go and observe and ask questions. They should be willing to explain their methods of cleanliness and show you their equipment. If they aren't, there's a problem.

Sure! :clap2: :biggrin1:

It's when you get something stuck and your body produces a very thick, slimy liquid to try and lube things up so that the food will slip through.
