Well said.

I agree with this. I think that law enforcement did the right thing in this case, but I do have some doubts about gung-ho they were about going in there and the extents that they went to. I think the government should interfere with religious sects (not just the less mainstream ones, too) that have practices that place children in danger, but to be honest, if a bunch of adults want to practice polygamy or rattlesnake handling or whatever, I have no issue with it.

Next time, tell him that not that it's any business of his, you're breaking out because of the weight loss. Hormones are stored in fat, after all. Then make a comment about how his skin is looking very clear lately!

I'm having to buy more new clothes, since I'm starting another part-time job (my 3rd one) tomorrow. I'm also hoping to get one that I interviewed for last week. And of course, I'm pretty darn broke right now. Went to Kohl's a couple of days ago and got a couple of pairs of khakis and a hoodie. I went and took them back today because I decided that I didn't really like them that much. Of course, while I was there, I picked up a pair of khakis (size 12 with no elastic!) that were made by a different brand, some dress socks, a new smaller nightshirt, and four bras (they were about 1/3 off) in a new size. Even though I've been trying to just get a piece or two of new clothing at a time, it's still getting expensive. So now, even though I took back the $80+ worth of stuff I'd gotten previously, I spent $150 to make up for it! :smile2: And if I get part time job #4, I get to go get MORE new clothes (YAY! and BOO! at the same time), because Dressbarn has a "business casual" employee dress code, and I have ONE "business casual" shirt and only two pairs of appropriate pants.

Usually, stores like those and like Dressbarn have petites in limited styles and colors. I can choose either style A in black or style B in black. Occasionally, they'll have gray or dark brown thrown in for kicks. Well, I should say, that's what their plus departments were like. They've likely got a lot more in the regulars. Actually, now that I think about it, I think the Dressbarn in my hometown has an actual regular-petites section. I'm still getting used to shopping in the regular sections, so I don't even think of certain stores, even when they're great. I used to get a certain brand and style of tshirt at Target when I was in plus sizes. It was just a simple V or crew-necked tee. Then they changed the style and it SUCKED. They made it much more close-fitting and changed the neckline to where it showed my bra easily. I was not happy. I need to go back and look through their misses section. At Walmart, I generally confine my clothes purchases to panties, sleepwear, occasionally shorts, and plain t-shirts, the type they put in the piles against a wall. Everything else I've gotten hasn't lasted, but the tees usually last for a fairly long while, or at least long enough to get me to the next size.

That depends on how large your monitor is and how large your browser screen is, though, I think. On mine, I can see the whole list, as long as the quick links button is at the top of my browser. -
Hers were a tad vaguer and a bit more pothead-like, I think, but you were close! But you forgot the astrological and hippie flower-child references!

I'm probably going to have to amend my 2007 return next year, since I had surgery and everything in 2007. I waited too long this year to try and dig up my medical bills and crap, so I just didn't claim them.
-
Well, hell. If I'd known it would take only a few minutes to do everything, I'd have slept longer this morning. Oh, well. I got everything filed and taxes paid and everything. I'm getting a return from the state, but not from federal. I get to pay them $127, so by the time I add everything up, I'm only getting back about $80.

OMG! I seriously just snorted Water through my nose! I honestly couldn't figure out if that person was just really odd or high on something really, really good. :confused2:

I think the safest thing to do, by far, is to avoid talking about bodies in negative terms, whether it's a larger BMI or a smaller BMI, whether you're talking about yourself or other people. Regardless of their size, people will get understandably offended if someone says a certain BMI is "bony" or "unattractive" or "gross," even if they're talking in relation to just themselves.

The only problems I have with places like Target and Walmart is that it's sometimes hard to get clothes that fit right. I need petite-length pants, and they can be rather difficult to find there. Plus, a lot of the shirts don't fit me right, for some reason. Either they've got those surplice-style fronts that cross over your breasts (NEVER hit me in the right spot) or the arms are too long or too short.

Definitely. Take Chickie, for example. One of the reasons she may be so sensitive is that she's had to make her blog private several times because people from LBT would go and make anonymous comments in it, attacking her for being thin. Mean attacks, too (as if an attack can be anything but mean, but you get the drift). There's definitely a sort of attitude change here among some people when a member hits goal and tries to stick around and give advice. Several of the at-goal members have said that they get treated differently, that people (usually newer members) make comments about how they're at goal and really don't know what it's like, etc., as if they have forgotten. It really gets quite vicious.

They don't make very much profit at all. There have been several smaller airlines that have folded in the last few weeks, in fact. Between fuel prices, employee benefits/wages, etc., the airlines aren't doing so well.
-
See, there's the problem. Larger seats means fewer seats. Fewer seats means fewer passengers per plane. Fewer passengers per plane means that seat prices jump tremendously, making them even more outrageous. So the way I see it is this: People can either be uncomfortable in an expensive, narrow seat, or they can be comfortable in a very expensive, wider seat. Of course, if they widen the seats, people will bitch about how much higher prices went. There is no winning there.
-
And the alternate needs to be said, too: Demeaning others because they are now "thin" and you are "obese" is not something that should be done here either.

I'm not to fond of the new main page, myself. The sublists won't stay collapsed if I refresh the page, and I really liked being able to see the newest post in each forum, like the old layout showed. I think the new layout could be good with a few tweaks, but so far, I'm not thrilled. It's a little too busy for me. -
Probably. Be very, very glad. The poster went off on me when I asked her to elaborate her posts. We're talking pissed, saying something along the lines of "you think you're so much better than me," blah, blah, blah. And I was just sitting here thinking, "Chill! I'm not after you for the way you post or the incorrect grammar you're using, but because I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE TRYING TO SAY! You're trying to debate and shit, but your statements do not make any actual sense in any time/space dimension whatsoever!" I seriously just started skipping her posts after that. After all, in RnR, if people can't understand what you're trying to say, you aren't actually adding anything to the debate/conversation.
-
Yep. Same here. If something looks like it's going to give me a headache to try to decipher, I skip it entirely. And yes, I've actually gotten headaches from trying to read people's posts before. The posts that I think most of us are referring to are not the ones where there's a few misspelled words or a single missing period or misplaced comma or apostrophe. Rather, they're the ones that are 4-5 inches long or longer without a single punctuation point or capitalized word, the ones where words are mangled so badly you can't even begin to know what it said. Or, my personal pet peeve, the friggin' haiku posts made several months ago that I couldn't decipher. (Those were actually the straw that broke the camel's back, in my case. I started skipping posts that day. I was literally staring at one of those posts and thinking, "WTF?!")

Good suggestions, ladies!

Of course, BMI can be inaccurate in certain cases. No one has ever said it wasn't. And of course, there are other ways to determine if someone is truly overweight. Take body-fat percentage, for example. I believe even Jachut has said that her body fat percentage is still about 30% (I think she said that, anyway. Feel free to slap me, Jachut, if I'm wrong.), which is still higher than recommended, and she's the first to admit that. And Jachut looks GREAT and does extensive cardio workouts. And if someone who is at a healthy BMI can still have a body-fat percentage that is a tad higher than the target range, how high do you think someone's body-fat percentage is who is still considered "overweight" by their BMI? And I'm talking about the average person on this site, not bodybuilders or anything. For the average person, BMI is still going to be a pretty good tool. Of course, people need to look at other aspects of their weight, in addition to their BMI, such as where they carry their fat. But I'd wager a guess that many people (barring weight-lifters and such, of course) with an "overweight" BMI are most likely going to show a higher risk with the other measurements, as well.
-
I hate to get in the middle again, but quite frankly, there HAVE been people sticking words in both Chickie's and Jachut's mouths. They've never said that a person with a BMI of 28 is guaranteed to be unhealthy. The simple fact is, though, that there is a "healthy" or "normal" BMI range, and that then indicates that any BMI that is not in that range CAN be referred to as "unhealthy," whether it is a BMI of 17 or a BMI of 28. Right now, I have an unhealthy BMI. I may not show any signs of weight-related conditions right now, and I am definitely healthier than I was when I was at my heaviest, but there is still no way I can deny that I am at a much greater risk of getting a weight-related condition than a person with a BMI of 23. That's plain, hard fact. If I decide that I'm happiest with a BMI of 28 when I get there, it's STILL an unhealthy BMI, and I'll fully own up to that. People can say all they want to that they're "going to be perfectly healthy with a BMI of 28 or 29." Well, they don't know that. They can't know that until they get to that BMI. And even if they are perfectly healthy when they reach that goal, they're still at a greater risk of weight-related health problems than someone of a lower weight. Chickie and Jachut have never gone after someone to lose more weight. If you've ever read Chickie's blog, she's come right out and stated several times that she doesn't give a flying you-know-what what another person weighs. People refusing to see reality is what gets to her, Jachut, and yes, even me. And quite frankly, it's been quite obvious to more than a few of us that even though Chickie may have been the only one to come right out and offend some people, there have been hidden insults thrown, insults that were meant to offend. For example, I bet it would be extremely offensive to more than a few people here if Chickie suddenly started gaining weight and made posts about how she's "unattractive" or "disgusting" if she still has a BMI of 24. It's basically implying that anyone with that same BMI or higher would be just as ugly. So I don't see why everyone can't see why people are getting offended when they're saying what they are.
