TOFU Cooking Techniques and Recipes PLEASE

I've found a few highly rated recipes at recipe sites. One was for a tofu-stuffed manicotti, and it got incredible reviews. Honestly, with new foods, I don't try them unless I've found recipes somewhere that has a rating system so that people can come back and say if it was good or bad. Take a look at Recipezaar: Where the World's Recipes Are and All recipes – complete resource for recipes and cooking tips. I think you can sort the recipes by how well they were reviewed at both sites.

    Hot tea is WONDERFUL!

I just got my UPS shipment from Twining's today, with my six different types of tea. Love, love, LOVE the Prince of Wales blend. I'll have to try the others tomorrow, since I got some that I hadn't had before.

    Hot tea is WONDERFUL!

It really depends on the type of tea. Some teas are completely nasty (I tried a green tea today that literally tasted like liquid grass), but some are really good. There are so many different types of teas, different blends, flavors, strengths, etc., that you just have to try a bunch to see what your tastes are.

I'm going to have to force myself to eat.

I've had three fills, to a total of 2.2 cc in a 4 cc band.

I won't follow the herd any more...

I like sweet drinks like pina coladas, where you can't taste the alcohol. One of the major reasons I don't drink is that I hate the way I feel afterwards. I get major hot flashes if I drink any alcohol, and I do mean any. I start sweating, my face turns red, and I honestly feel like I'm about to either puke or faint.

Do you tell people you're banded?

I told my parents and one of my friends, back when I was first looking into it. The friend kept quiet, but the 'rents didn't. I didn't have to tell anyone that I knew, they'd already done it for me. I mean, if someone asks me, I'll tell them, but I don't volunteer. I figure that my personal life isn't any of their business.

    Lactose Intolerant

I've found it to be generally less of a problem, primarily because I'm not eating the amounts or types of foods that I ate pre-band. I may have a piece of cheese or have a little cheese on veggies or in soup (especially french onion and chili) occasionally, but I'm not eating a whole cheese pizza or an entire platter of garlic cheese bread. Before, I'd just live with the consequences of eating those foods because I loved them and enjoyed eating them. Now, even if I do eat something with dairy in it, it's not as much as I used to eat, and in most cases, not as often.

    That Canadian Health Care..........

They already make many of your medical decisions. Insurance companies tell you which doctors you can see, which hospitals you can go to, what treatments you can get, etc., etc., etc.

I won't follow the herd any more...

Don't forget the bashing posts that are obviously about Wendell or Dee or newbies they think are Wendell or Dee but really aren't. Those are completely ignored by the mods. And yes, it would be so horrible to have the truth about Sandy come out. After all, warning anyone on the board about her would be impossible and mean, since that would be invading her privacy and betraying her trust. And we can't do that.

    An interesting article re: abortion

Yup. Although, I can't say never. After all, I've never been in a position where I had to make the decision between abortion and birth, so I can't say for certain that I would never decide to have an abortion. I'm not going to tell a woman she can't have an abortion when I don't even know what I would choose, if I were in her position.

    Ooh, sounds good.

    Gotta love the band!

I just don't understand why it's performed of often in the US, when there are safer and equally effective (or maybe even more effective, according to recent research). I can understand someone who is in imminent danger of dying, so heavy they can't do even minimal exercise like walking, having it instead of being banded. But for people who aren't in serious danger of dying right this minute, and who can start doing exercise, I don't see why they choose bypass, unless it's because they want easy weight loss that they don't really have to work for. Again, I understand that for some people, they've let their obesity get to the point where they have to take very drastic steps. Take my parent's friend, for example. The man was HUGE. I mean, not just extremely obese, but very tall, as well. Nothing he did would work, in terms of weight loss. Right before he had surgery, you could tell that he wasn't in good health, disregarding the obvious obesity. His skin was gray, he was bigger than ever, and he was constantly coughing and having problems. He finally had RNY last year. Of course, he was also eating at Olive Garden within a relatively short time of having surgery, so who knows how well the surgery will work.

I won't follow the herd any more...

Come to speak of it, that reminds me of OH, too. People can't just look past the single thread they don't like, they have to complain to the mods that it's "taking up too much space and being posted too often." WTF? It's ONE freakin' thread. Pull up your big girl panties and ignore it.

I won't follow the herd any more...

Oh, of course. And the ringleaders were folks who don't even come to the board anymore, at least not that I've seen recently. What the hell do they care?

I won't follow the herd any more...

Post them here, instead, and then link to it. You won't be breaking any OH rules, I don't think.

I won't follow the herd any more...

Although, some people don't understand that. There was a massive fight a few months ago because some idiots didn't understand that they were adults, and as such, weren't forced to go into a thread they didn't like. THey were trying to get all RnR and Talk Lounge threads removed from the New Posts section.

I won't follow the herd any more...

Yep, definitely agree with that. I've not had more than two or three sips of beer in my life, which was (and is, for that matter) definitely unusual in the university world. I don't mind a glass of sweet wine (although, not my favorite) or a sweet cocktail, but I don't generally drink. I think a lot of people think I'm either a Mormon or a recovering alcoholic, since I always turn down alcohol.
  18. Anyone else thinking of doing that? meat is getting pretty expensive (especially when you consider how much I waste), and I'm always paranoid about how well I cook it when I cook for just myself (for some reason, I'm not paranoid about it when I cook for other people) and wind up over cooking it, which isn't band-friendly. I'm trying to get to where I eat more vegetables and non-meat Protein like Beans and tofu. I'm not super-fond of the flavor of beans, but I don't have to worry about getting sick if I undercook them. And on the upside, I don't really have to worry about overeating with them, either, since they aren't exactly something I love, just something that I know I can eat. I still love meat, especially a very good steak, but I think I'm going to start limiting it to restaurants.

    Giving Up

Well, who is she to blame? Herself? She isn't the one who made them wait to tell her. And she shouldn't pay for medical care she hasn't received yet. That's why medical bills are sent after a doctor's appointment, not before. I'd personally go to a different surgeon, myself. Yes, some have program fees, but paying for the portion that insurance doesn't pay, before surgery? Heck no. I'd tell them that that is what bills are for. And with this surgery, it isn't like one surgeon is the only choice she has. I'd drop him in a heartbeat.

This is embarrasing, but I need help!!!

Keep a hand-held recorder handy, and the next time she calls to harass and berate you, record it. Maybe it would help her to be confronted with what she really sounded like.

I won't follow the herd any more...

I remember that thread. I was pretty damn disgusted, so it was a very good thing that I had already had my account deleted. People must think that everyone reading the thread is completely stupid, that they don't realize that every freakin' person knows who and what they are talking about. My god, it's shocking how immature women in their '40s, '50s, and '60s can be. Dee-lightful? Two down, one to go? Jesus, I thought I left that behind when I left kindergarten. I'm surprised that they haven't brought out "neener, neener, neener" and "I know you're ugly, but what am I" yet. I'm almost afraid to say it, because that's probably what will come out of their mouths next. In reality, it's the mods for that board that amaze me. Either they are supremely stupid and probably don't have enough brain cells to chew gum and walk at the same time, or they're Sandy's patsies. I vote for both, actually, since she's still around and breaking their terms of service after so many people complained about her.

And where, pray tell, is this post of hers that tells how much she was expected to pay? Here are all the posts she made in this thread. I also took the time to look through all 24 posts she's made at this board. She mentioned once that she could put it on credit card, but that doesn't mean anything. I could charge several thousand dollars to each of my credit cards right now. The only time she mentions a specific amount of money was when she said she was having to spend $25.00 to get her records from them. That's it. So come up with another story. This one has major holes.

    Adding protein shakes

Have you tried Matrix Chocolate or Whey Gourmet Chocolate Peanut Butter? Both of those are surprisingly good, for protein shakes. Add a pump or two of low-cal sugar-free flavored syrup, or a little powdered peanut butter, and you've got a decent shake.

    An interesting article re: abortion

And your point is? What, is a "Save the Rainforest" organization supposed to do research on abortion? Research is only done by the groups and scientists interested in the results. You can't completely disregard information, just because you don't like the group doing the research. Believe me, there are few scientists out there willing to risk their reputations by doing shoddy research. When you look for jobs in the scientific community, people look at both the reputation of the groups you've worked for in the past and the quality of the work you've done. You don't get much advancement if you've got a crappy reputation when it comes to the quality of your work, even if you graduated from Harvard, Columbia, or Yale.
