Okey-dokie, here goes! :biggrin1: My translation of the previously posted email: "Them there brownies is invadin' GOD'S COUNTRY! An' it's all because o' them homos, Atheists, and loose wimmin! They be sinners! In the olden days, Americans knew how to torture folks! And they liked it!"

2nd slippage, considering bypass
anonemouse replied to Shewhoknits's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Talk to Alexandra. I know that she had to have her first band removed earlier this year because of slippage and got a second one in August. She might be able to help. -
My translation would probably get me yelled at by quite a few people. Especially since you could probably use "Dueling Banjos" as a soundtrack to it.

Anyone interested in hearing what I mentally translated the above email to mean?

Poll - what causes you the biggest problem to get down?
anonemouse replied to Boysaway's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Soft bread gives me problems, so I avoid it entirely. Surprisingly, cold foods like milk, ice cream, and yogurt give me problems, also. I only eat those rarely, and I have to go very slow when I do eat them. -
How often do you have a protein shake for breakfast?
anonemouse replied to mandi78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, I was enjoying it for the first half of it, and then the cardboard flavor got to me. I had to choke down the rest of it. I think I'll stick to the choco/PB. -
drinking with food - cereal loophole??
anonemouse replied to soniacan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have problems when I eat cereal with milk. For some reason, my body interprets it as drinking with food, so it almost makes me PB. -
Should Medicare/Medicaid cover the band?
anonemouse replied to wrk-n-prgrss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Very true. But I don't think that the people who are elligible for the program should be punished because other people aren't. Unfortunately, it's just the way our medical system works. Some people have access to procedures that other people don't. I don't know the answer to that problem. -
How often do you have a protein shake for breakfast?
anonemouse replied to mandi78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I dunno. At first taste, I kind of like it. Good color, very chocolatey-looking. Nice and thick, but not too thick. Not a lot of flavor, though. Doesn't seem to have a bad aftertaste. It's really rather bland, but I sorta like it because it doesn't have a lot of flavor. A lot of the stronger-tasting drinks just taste funky and off to me, since I am sensitive to artificial sweeteners and flavors. I'd drink it, I think. It's definitely not as good as the choco/PB, but it's edible, IMO. The more I drink it, though, it kinda tastes like liquid cardboard. But that isn't necessarily bad, considering what it could taste like. :rolleyes I'll have to try it with some of the syrups that you're sending and report back. -

Not yet. I'll go do that now and post again in a few minutes. -
How often do you have a protein shake for breakfast?

Yep, it's awesome! But you can get it for cheaper at Netrition.com - The Internet's Premier Nutrition Superstore! (under the brand name PVL), and the shipping costs less (at Netrition, you can buy any amount of stuff and still only pay $5-$6 in shipping). I've been wanting to try the Cappucino flavor, but I've already got about 4 pig jugs, buckets, and bags of protein sitting in my living room (no room for it in the kitchen). -
Should Medicare/Medicaid cover the band?
anonemouse replied to wrk-n-prgrss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, I think that if they are going to pay for the bypass, they should definitely pay for the band. And I also think that, in the long run, they would be paying far less if they paid for WLS than if they didn't, if you consider all of the health conditions that obesity contributes to. -
Except for Indiana! That always ticked me off. Why do THEY not have to get their times messed up? [/whine] :huytsao

Protein clumps up into disgusting little lumps when it gets hot, so I think you might be out of luck, protein powder-wise. Believe me, that was one lesson that I learned the hard way.

Will know tomorrow if UHC denies...

That sucks. Definitely have the surgeon's office call Walter, though! -
If Laura hasn't told you yet, these are GOOD. They are 90 calories per pack, and the serving size is perfect for a bandster. Good for quick snacks or for a fast breakfast, they are very, very yummy.

Hey, post away! You sound like a very intelligent person, so I think you'll be a ton of fun to debate with! :biggrin1: And, we don't really hold grudges here, so we'll always be supportive on the rest of the board, no matter what tiffs we might have here in RnR. (Tiffs? Who has tiffs in RnR? )

I agree with you, Chicke. That comment offended me, and I'm nowhere close to reaching my goal weight yet. It certainly would offend me if I had reached my goal weight, since it implied that anyone who does want to be a healthy BMI thinks that they are better than everyone else and that they are never happy with the way they look.

I don't know if she meant it the way I interpreted it, but I felt that was basically a criticism of the way the media generally presents homosexuality. You know, gay men being extremely effeminate and obsessed with interior design and lesbians being very butch and masculine. That even though JKR saw Dumbledore as a gay man, she didn't characterize him as the stereotypical gay man. Instead, he was characterized like most REAL gay people, not a caricature of a gay person.

Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you
anonemouse replied to Sunta's topic in The Lounge
Yep, I tend to avoid movies that make me think. I just want to have fun and escape for a while. Give me Gidget, or some good car chases, or some big explosions, and I'll be happy. The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Die Hard, Bourne, and Lethal Weapon series are all faves of mine, as is The Hunt for Red October. -
Holy cow. Some people go WAY overboard. But, I'm sure a lot of people would think $50k would be going way overboard, too. I want LOTS of counter space, real wood cabinets, nice granite counters, a professional gas stove and oven (preferably double), giant fridge, etc. It KILLS me to watch shows about flipping or remodeling houses, where the people doing it totally RUIN the house. My mom and I sit there and bash the idiots. These people will buy a gorgeous (or potentially gorgeous) old home and then go in and rip out all of the characteristic architecture, the authentic tiling, etc. You know, the stuff a lot of people are willing to PAY for. All for making a cold, modern house. And some of the stuff they do, you KNOW a straight, colorblind man designed or picked out, 'cause it's absolutely hideous.

I really didn't mean to start this thread to bash anyone. Truly, I just wanted to try to understand why some people choose to remain obese, when they've got this incredible tool that they can use to reach a healthy weight. I really think it does have a lot to do with perception issues, like other people have said. As fat people, I don't think most of us will ever be able to see ourselves as being the weight we are. I mean, even after losing 25 pounds, I've had people tell me that they can see that I've lost weight. My brother's mother-in-law calls me "Shrinking Lady." But I can't see it. I mean, I know I've lost weight, I know that I'm in a smaller size, but I still can't see the weight loss.

What interests do you have that most people think is strange?
anonemouse replied to ReanimatedRebel's topic in The Lounge
:nervous Um, well, that depends on who you're talking about. Weird to my real-life family and friends? Sure, they'd think some of the stuff I'm interested in is weird, if they knew about it (I've never told them). But weird to a lot of my online friends? Nah, most of them are interested in the same stuff. First off, I'm into online fanfiction, generally of a very, very adult variety, in a big way. If y'all don't know what that is, I'm not gonna tell you, 'cause I know you'll think I'm a weirdo. :car: Secondly, I'm very into wildlife, to the point where a dream vacation would be wildlife-watching somewhere exotic, preferably the middle of nowhere in Africa or Madagascar. Now, to other wildlife folk, that's something that they think is pretty darn tame and everyday. To regular people who screech at the first sign of a mouse or snake, it's a tad weird. -
Yep, they're freshmen. I just really think they overthought the questions and made them a lot more difficult than they really were. I kept telling them, "ALWAYS go with your first instinct. Don't second guess yourself, because 95% of the time, you're going to be wrong." They don't listen, though, which is definitely clear from their grades on this exam.

Tell me about it! I even gave them three options to choose from to get extra credit. The test was 100 questions, so I told them they could choose one of the following options: 1) use their review sheet for 5 minutes after they had finished, 2) turn in the completed review sheet for 5 points of extra credit, or 3) get up to 5 points by writing a short essay to compare and contrast the way ATP is produced by use of concentration gradients in photosynthesis and aerobic respiration. Now, option 3 SOUNDS hard, but if they knew the chapters like they should have, they'd know it was actually a ridiculously easy question, since it's basically the same process in both photosynthesis and aerobic respiration, just performed in different structures (chloroplast in photosynthesis and mitochondria in aerobic respiration). Hell, I would have given them full credit if they'd said something along the lines of, "In both photosynthesis and aerobic respiration, the movement of electrons along electron transport chains causes hydrogen ions to be transferred across the membrane, causing a concentration gradient with a high concentration of hydrogen ions on one side and a low concentration on the other. Since hydrogen ions want to move to areas of lower concentration, they move back across the membrane through ATP synthase channels, causing a phosphate group to attach to ADP, creating ATP. The only major difference is that this process takes place in the chloroplast in photosynthesis and the mitochondria in respiration." Ta-da! 5 points. Grr. I only had 4 students turn in the review sheet. That would have been the smartest thing to do, followed by the essay (the option NONE of them chose). The rest of them decided to use their review sheet, which was actually a pretty stupid move. They were betting that they'd be able to look through 100 questions in 5 minutes, match them up with corresponding review questions (there was no guarantee that there WAS a corresponding review question, of course), and still be able to answer them. Stupid.
