I hate it when people post just to post.....

Yep, it's a far, FAR cry from OtHers. It's definitely a very interesting board.

    If money were no object...

Aww, you spoil all the fun! (And Nascar isn't all that bad, at least when there are crashes, anyway. Other than that, it's a bunch of cars going around in circles. Is it bad that I watch stuff just to see people screw up?)

Goody! I'll have to start planning!

Yep, I'm not sure I'd have the guts to ask on a board of mostly "normals."

Do You? You know use that word!

And slavery was LEGAL when it occured, and all that happened with it was also LEGAL. There is absolutely no comparison between slavery and an internship. First of all, interns are willing workers. They may not be getting paid in money (some are, though), but they are paid in experience and networking contacts. Secondly, forcing someone to work agains their will or be assaulted physically, sexually, or mentally in an internship is illegal. Third, an intern can leave whenever he/she wants to leave. The employer can't take out a warrant on them or call them a "runaway intern." Absolutely no comparisons between the two practices.

Oh, I feel like an idiot! THAT forum didn't enter my mind until I was about to submit this message. I thought you were talking about OH! Yep, that's me.

An internship nowhere near compares to slavery, and it's an insult to pretend it does. In an internship, you can't be physically assaulted. You can't be raped. You can't be verbally abused. You don't sacrifice any and all rights to your children or your belongings to your employer. You can't be SOLD, for Pete's sake.

    Roux-En-Y or Lap Band

My first thought when I read that was that your surgeon isn't up to date on the most current statistics. The most current ones say that the lap-band and RNY have equivalent results about 5 years out from surgery. Now, RNYers will lose weight faster for the first year or two, but then their bodies adjust to the surgery. They start losing weight more slowly, in some cases start regaining, and their bodies adjust to the surgery and start absorbing more calories. Lap-band patients, though, can lose weight for however long they have their bands. They don't depend on the same "window of opportunity" that RNY patients have to. Personally, I think RNY should only be a realistic choice for people that are completely immobile or have seriously life-threatening obesity or conditions caused by obesity (in other words, are in severe danger of dying if they don't lose weight very quicky). I just think that it is too extreme for the average bariatric patient. Yes, it may take longer with banding to get to goal weight, but it is very possible to get there. There are just so many severe complications that can occur with RNY, and the procedure itself is so drastic, that I honestly never considered it for a moment when I was first looking into surgery. If I, for some reason, lost my band, the first bariatric surgery I would look at is VSG.

    Obese!

It is! I can't wait. Sometimes, I get depressed because the weight isn't coming off faster, but it still feels so good to look back at where I've been and really see how far I've come.:whoo:

Do You? You know use that word!

If you look back at my last post, I quite clearly said that I didn't think it was okay for a black person to use it, that I don't think certain words should be used by anyone, regardless of who they are. And yes, the hundreds of years of history behind it does make it a very bad word to use. Huh? Asking someone nicely to pick up your pencil is a heck of a lot different than saying, "Yo, n_____, pick that up for me."
  14. I also vote for Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate. It's beena lot easier to use than a lot of the other sites I've tried.

Do You? You know use that word!

I don't think it is socially acceptable to use "other bad words occasionally." My personal feelings, of course. I also don't think it's okay for anyone to use it, regardless of race. Just like I don't care if the person calling me a bitch is a man or a woman. Whomever does it is going to get slapped. The fact is, though, the "n word" has a massive history behind it that the "c word" or the "b word" doesn't.

It is about 3.5 hours. Well, Memphis is. The museum is downtown, so there might be a tad added on, depending on traffic. Memphis is great, though. Very multicultural, very interesting.

And remember folks, the excuse of "but other people use it" is not, in any way, justification. Never has been, never will be. Just ask your mother.

Do You? You know use that word!

I completely agree. I think the word in question is a nasty, disgusting word and should never be used. Ever. And like you say, every person on Earth makes mistakes of one kind or another. We can respect and acknowledge, though, the effects people have on society through their personal efforts and through their legacies, even if they aren't perfect people. I encourage EVERYONE to go and see the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, TN. It will shock you, break your heart, and hopefully, make people think twice about using certain words.

    If money were no object...

If money were no object, I would.... Take as many classes as I want, in whatever subjects I want, at any school that I want. Travel to unique locations, such as Madagascar, the Amazon, Africa, the Arctic, etc. Buy a home in any location that I want, including Cape Cod, Florida, Chesapeake Bay area, NYC, and Alaska, for starters. Give my parents enough money that they could retire to any location they want to and live comfortably for the rest of their life. Donate to charities of my choice, including wildlife, pet, and people charities. Get lots and lots of plastic surgery. Start a scholarship and grant fund for female scientists and budding scientists.

    Unsuccessful at MY goal?

Yep, I've learned that little lesson the hard way recently. On one hand, you're here on a trusted site and among friends. On the other, you never know who's reading your posts and who might be a little kooky.

    Obese!

You bet I'll take it! It feels so good, because I binged for a few days (last weekend and a few days before) and gained a few pounds (probably water weight, along with food-gain). I'm absolutely thrilled to have lost what I gained and a little more! Realizing how close I am to that little land-mark just gives me a little more inspiration to keep going.

So who would you like to meet?

Shahdenfroiduh. Huh, my college German classes came in handy for once!
  23. Oh, wow! I'm definitely rooting for you! It sounds like you've come so far.

    Obese!

To add: I am now only 5 pounds away from my lightest weight since sometime in high school!
