  1. I think you've got the right idea!
  2. Hmm. Nope, wouldn't call them a "know it all" about gardening.
  3. I'd rather take advice about surgery from someone that "knows it all" (at least about the surgery) than from someone that doesn't "know it all." Just like I would rather take gardening advice from a master gardener than a person that's just been digging ditches for the last month. :heh:
  4. Yep, took me almost 9 months to get my insurance to approve and actually have surgery. But, on the upside, it gave me plenty of time to make sure that this was what I wanted to do and that I knew as much about it as possible.
  5. Hey, we figured we could let her do all the talking for us. :heh:
  6. I wanna know if I'm an oldie or a newbie or an inbetweenie! I was banded less than 5 months ago, but I've been here over a year!
  7. Damn, that made me snort! It's especially funny when the conversation that the person is referring to isn't even remotely about them. It's good for a laugh. :heh:

    Which embarrasses you more?

Ditto. My brother's bad about that, mainly because his ex was a nutritionist for a bariatric surgeon, and he now thinks he knows everything about the band and what I should be doing.
  9. I had a wonderful reply all typed out and then realized that it might be considered "baiting" if a certain other person saw it. Damn. It was good, too. Let's just say it contained references to being caught, family members, and random conversations with said supposed family members. :guess
  10. Don't forget, you tend to get random people bitching at you! Or you get people that make up brand new SNs to follow you around and harass you!
  11. Only if you eat 1/4 cup or less of the steak!

    Bad day

    You got that right. :faint:
  13. Would those notebooks be the ones with pictures of your BFF and BF all over them or the ones with little hearts and Mrs. WASaBubbleButt BF's Last Name written in the pages.

    And so it begins....

Yep, protein doesn't seem to make a difference with my hair loss. When I get stressed, it starts shedding left and right. When the stress goes away, the hair loss magically stops. It's pissing me off, since I am under LOTS of stress at the moment, between my classes, trying to get my thesis done, and applying for jobs.

    sorry i have to ask...

Honestly, one of my favorite fast food meals is the cheese ravioli with meat sauce from Fazoli's. One plate is enough for a few meals, and it's not bad on calories. Plus, it's got a decent amount of protein (not tons, but still pretty good). I think one plate has 600 calories, and there's enough ravioli to be split into at least 3 servings (more, if you have good restriction).
  16. This is getting freakin' hilarious! :clap2: :bounce:

    And so it begins....

Over the last several semesters, I've definitely become less of a push-over. The first semester I taught was absolutely horrid. There I was, shoved in front of a bunch of (primarily) freshman college students, with no actual training in teaching. Plus, it had been more than four years since I had had a general biology class myself, and I honestly didn't know a lot of the stuff that I was going to have to teach. (Wildlife majors weren't required to take very many basic biology classes at my undergrad university. Most of my courses were wildlife and habitat management based. When I graduated from undergrad, I could make a detailed habitat or fishery management plan, do statistically-sound sampling, and identify a hell of a lot of plants and animals, but I couldn't tell you how photosynthesis works or talk about cellular function beyond the extreme basics.) I SWEAR students can smell fear. That first semester was hell on Earth for me. I've gotten much better, though. I treat all my students with respect, but I'm not willing to take BS from them, either. I'm extremely willing to help them as much as I can if they let me know that they need help, but I've made it very clear to them that they have to put in their share of effort. I honestly don't think I could stand to teach any levels lower than university. In college-level classes, the students are there voluntarily. I'm not required to pass a certain number of them or be nice to them even if they are asses. I can literally kick them out of my class and tell them not to come back, if I have to. I don't have to answer to parents that want little Sally or Jimmy to get a passing grade without doing the work, either. It's actually illegal for me to give parents any information regarding their child's work, unless the student fills out a release form. It's a relief, to be honest.
  18. Ditto. Statistically, the vast majority of obese people who lose weight through diet and exercise alone will not maintain their weight-loss. I think it's somewhere around 96%, actually, that will regain. I look at stuff like that (Oprah's show) as being similar to the fad diet products that you see advertised on TV. Yeah, there's a few people out there that had amazing success, but they are in the very extreme minority. Most people don't have that sort of success.
  19. Exactly. I know when I'm teaching a class, I'm as nice and polite as I can be to my students. That doesn't mean that I don't go and bitch about the clueless ones to my fellow grad students that are also teaching classes. It's stress relief. And further more... There really seems to be an overwhelming mentality on the board that wants to coddle the newbies, never disagree with them, never tell them that they're wrong or doing something that might hurt them. It's really ridiculous, don't you think? And of course, if someone DARES to do it, they get accused of attacking them and "intimidating" them. I could see that if people were going around to all the different threads and actually calling specific people idiots and telling them that they're morons for not looking at the FAQ or reading other threads before they post. But the fact is, they aren't. They are only complaining in RnR, which is the perfect place to do it. Everywhere else, people are polite and answer questions.

    Bad day

Honestly, I think the worst I can complain about is an incident when I was interning at a wildlife refuge on Cape Cod and a guy came in the visitors' center to bitch at me about how the trees were growing too tall and ruining his view. It was all I could do to tell him, "This is a wildlife refuge, not a people refuge. It's nice that we get visitors, but guess what? The wildlife come first. I don't give a damn if those trees are ruining the view, they're considered to be wildlife habitat, and we aren't going to cut them down just so poor little you can have a better ocean view from the boardwalk." Instead I just smiled and nodded throughout his spiel and took a message to pass on to the refuge manager. When you want to smack some sense into a customer, just smile and nod, smile and nod.

    Bad day

Good for you! I just can't believe there are people out there that act like that guy. It's completely out of the question for me, I guess. I was raised to treat everyone with respect, and to fake it if I didn't respect them.

    For those who have PCOS

If you try Proactiv, I'll give you a little advance warning: It bleaches anything you get it on. I can only use it in the shower, because if I just try to wash my face at the sink, it bleaches the washcloth and towel. Plus, it can bleach the neckline of your shirts, if you wear any of your shirts very often.
