Honestly, I'm starting to think that it's for the best. I was beginning to get sick of teaching anyway (well, teaching was fine, it was some of the crappy students that I was fed up with), and thinking about looking for other jobs. I just wish it wasn't sprung on me so suddenly. I applied for several federal positions online yesterday and I'm looking into some internships now, so hopefully I can find something fairly soon. If all else fails, though, I can always go home and work for my folks as a receptionist at their veterinary clinic until I can find something better (or at least get my thesis finished).

It's really starting to hit me that this is really working, that it isn't another diet that I'll screw up. I don't even REMEMBER the last time I was 185 pounds. I can look back and say, "I will NEVER weigh that much again." And guess what? For once in my life, I actually believe it, too.

Ditto. Also, nothing says that you have to have a reception. If you do have one, it doesn't have to be fancy. Like other people have said, you can ask close family members to help make the food or you can have a caterer just do a simple arrangement, which is what my former roommate did. She had a few types of cheeses, fruit, raw veggies, and some very simple finger sandwiches, along with the cake. You don't have to serve a full, fancy meal. But I totally agree that a potluck for your wedding reception isn't a good idea. Honestly, I'd be pretty taken aback if I saw that on a wedding invitation.

I was teaching for the university that I'm a grad student at. Apparently, though, they can only use their grad students as slave labor (horrid wages) when there isn't a job candidate who has a PhD. When it gets close to the start of the semester, if there isn't anyone with a PhD available, they hire the grad students to teach the classes that aren't being covered by the full-time professors. They were able to find someone with a PhD this semester, which means I'll only be teaching if there are too many labs for the grad students that have assistantships. The way they fill those posistions is that grad students with current assistantships get first priority and then the grad students that have been there longer and are no longer covered under an assistantship are offered the remaining positions. There were a bunch of new grad students in my department this year, so I doubt there'll be any positions left. Which basically leaves me out in the cold with no job. So, I've been rushing around to various internet sites and applying for jobs and internships. I just wish I'd known that I was probably going to have to move before I'd paid this month's rent (and it's late enough that I'll have to pay some of next month's, too, since I have to give a full 30 days notice).

Does anybody eat Buffet style anymore?
anonemouse replied to Anyalee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've gone to buffets since being banded. I can't eat much, but I just consider it evening out the massive amounts I could pack away pre-band. -
Ditto. My nutritionist even told me to indulge myself if I was have a craving, since denying it only makes binging more likely.

Do you miss your old eating habits?
anonemouse replied to Jennifer08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't miss my old eating habits one bit. I eat whatever I want, just very limited quantities of it. If I want cake, I have a little cake. If I want chocolate, I have a little chocolate. If I want steak, I have a little steak. And I still lose weight because I'm not absolutely stuffing myself like I used to. In fact, I've lost several pounds over the holiday season. The band isn't about deprivation, it's about learning to eat like a normal, skinny person does. Normal people indulge themselves occasionally, too. And in 6 months of being banded, I've never PBed. -
I did it! I DID IT! I did it!!

Oh, WOW! That's great! -
I feel like changing my old one! It's incredibly boring and uncreative, and I want a new one, damn it! :heh:

I like those, but I'm really starting to like birdbrain. I'll think on it for a couple of days just to make sure, though.

Anyone forced to have LB & hate having it all the time?
anonemouse replied to DieselAngel2005's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just wanted to say that I LOVE the Bradenton area. It's one of my favorite spots in Florida. -
I sorta like "birdbrain," but that might be asking for it, considering the tone of the board lately.
-
I'm not from Memphis, though, even though I would LOVE to live there. Crossville belle or Richmond belle doesn't have quite the same ring. :cry
-
It's an awesome bird, if a little irritating when you have to be out in the field for 8 hours a day when there's a 100+ degree heat index, with no shade and no birds to be found. But it is a VERY interesting species.
-
I'm hoping I can come up with a good one. I just haven't found one yet that really screams at me. I'm not the most creative person in the world, as evidenced by my current SN. :guess

<!-- google_ad_section_end --> I would give it at least a week. You don't want to wait too long in case there's been a mistake and they haven't gotten everything they need, but you also don't want to start harassing them before they've even gotten a chance to look at the paperwork. Sometimes it takes a couple of days before the stuff that they've gotten has been entered into their computer system or has reached the correct person.

Suggestion for LapBandTalk
anonemouse replied to blahblahblah's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
That's a great idea! I'm starting to collect clothing that I can't wear anymore, and it would be wonderful to be able to pass it on to other people that could use it. -
Hee! I thought about "Butcherbird," but I'm not sure yet.
-
Ha! Very cute, guys! I'm thinking about something related to the species I'm doing my thesis on, the LoggerHead Shrike. Maybe Laniidae or Spanish Mockingbird or something.
-
Ha! :bounce::eyebrows: Hmm. No, I think I'm looking for something more ecology or wildlife related.
-
Hmm, not a bad idea. I have a couple of cats named Mouse and Mini that I adore, so I guess I could use some combination of those. Or I could look up some odd scientific name for something. I'll have to see what I can find.
-
Ditto. I'm not too much of a fan of other beans, but I absolutely adore edamame. I agree that a nutty flavor is probably the best way to describe it. Very mild, but delicious!
-
Yep, edamame is extremely yummy. I swear that they're addictive! If your grocery store has a frozen organic/health-food section, you can probably find them there.
-
It's nice to see you, too!

Eh, I'm pretty disfunctional and un-girly, apparently, when it comes to clothes. I have very little clothing that actually fits me, yet I still have a ful closet, somehow. I tend to just have a couple of pairs of pants/jeans that fit me and a few t-shirts, and wear them until they have holes in them and then buy just to replace the worn out ones. I have TONS of old clothing that are in smaller sizes, though, that still have the tags on them. I bought them during the "excited phase" of old diets, when I still thought I would be super successful. This is the first time in years that I realistically think I will be able to fit into them in the (hopefully) near future!
