Different doctors, different rules - food
anonemouse replied to November Lily's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My original surgeon required a post-op diet that was like this: 3-4 days clear liquids 4-7 days full liquids 7 days mushies But he also wanted everyone to stay on a 600-800 calorie diet, eat very small amounts at a time (like 3 oz Protein and 2-4 tbsp veggies) and avoid all bread, Pasta, rice, etc. until they hit goal. Obviously, he was mainly a RNY surgeon. I am really glad I had insurance issues and had to switch, in hindsight. -
Good Eats is AWESOME. He's pretty much the reason I watch Iron Chef America, too. I really like that he tells you why you are doing something, clearly explains how to do it, and tells you if you can skip steps. Plus, he's funny as hell, in a really geeky, nerdy way. I have to change the channel before Rachael Ray comes on, though. Uber-perky woman gets on my nerves. I've tried Alton's macaroni and cheese Casserole (or something like that) recipe and it was GOOD. I really want to try making a version of the frittata he made a few nights ago.

On one hand, I agree that this is a hurtful situation for your younger grandaughter. On the other, I think that the person planning the wedding should call the shots on who she wants in it. So I don't know what to tell you, Carlene. I think that one of your grandaughters is going to be hurt any way you solve it. Either one is hurt because she will be left out, or the other is hurt because she is being forced to sit out because of her sister. Maybe you could make sure that Emily knows that her sister was only chosen because of her height, and that she'll probably get a chance to be in the next wedding in the family. Personally, I don't get all the flap over being in weddings. I've been in one wedding in my entire life, and looking back, I really wish I had said I wouldn't do it. It was my roommate at the time that was getting married, so I drove her around to look at dresses (got a speeding ticket), spent hours upon hours helping her choose the wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses, helped choose flowers, helped throw lingerie and bridal showers, spent lots of money on shower gifts, had to drive to another state to be in the wedding, etc, etc, etc. And the girl separated from her husband within 6 months and was divorced within a year! I was PISSED. It was such a bad experience that I have been trying to figure out a way to nicely turn down being in my brother's wedding, whenever that happens. His girlfriend's been planning it even though he hasn't asked her yet, and I am pretty sure she thinks I'll want to be in it. I'll help plan, I'll help shop, just don't make me walk down the aisle again!

Well, whaddaya know? I got something right even when I got it wrong.

I made a 100 on my Analysis of Aquatic Ecosystems exam! Damn thing wound up being about 7 or eight typed pages long by the time I was finished!:clap2: :first:

If that's true, she needs a better writer.
-
You know, I think I meant to type "gave up the ghost". It makes more sense than "gave up the goat". But the implications aren't nearly as funny.
-
A little bit of "the lady doth protesteth too much"?

Bad Bjean, BAD!

I think I would prefer paying extra money to being squished in a sardine can. Not to mention that the one and only time I remember flying (I know I flew when I was a baby, but don't remember it), I got a little air sick. It was NOT a pleasant experience. I didn't puke or anything, but it was close. So, fewer people to climb over = better.
-
No thank you! I think I would get assassinated for being too radical, especially about church and state!
-
Basically a redneck way of saying "he gave up".
-
That's wonderful. But it's probably not the same story for a lot of people supporting her. Which probably drives me nuts more than anything. BTW, I liked "Not Ready to Make Nice", also. And "Earl's Gotta Die". Now THAT was a funny video.

The woman is driving me insane. I'm talking about a certain person over on OH that doesn't come here. She is one of those people that constantly seems to have a holier-than-thou approach to everything. I just caught her misrepresenting the results of a scientific study. She literally added on to the end of the abstract, making the authors seem to make conclusions they simply did not make. I can stand her otherwise, but THAT pissed me off. As a scientist myself, I know that you just don't do that if you want to keep any credibility.
-
I know! What really got to me was that she literally extended the last sentence of the conclusions to include what she wrote. I mean, speculate all you want about what the trend in statistics will show a few years down the line (the abstract was of an article that compared the results of all RNY and lap-band studies that were printed in all English language journals and had at least 100 participants and 3 years follow-up), but don't you dare add on to the actual freaking abstract and make the authors say things they didn't say! I mean, I've speculated myself about the results of that particular study. I even posted the abstract on LBT. The results they have do seem to indicate that once long term results (>10 years post-op) are compared for RNY and lap-band, that lap-band will probably come out ahead. But there simply isn't enough evidence to say that for sure at this point. The authors could only make conclusions about short term (up to 3 years post-op) and middle term weight loss (>3 years post-op), because there wasn't enough data available for long term comparison of the two procedures.

This just in: Companies to pull ads from Coulter's website

Let me ask this: Did you think it was okay for radio stations to ban the Dixie Chicks or for people to burn their CDs? If that was okay to do to them, we should all be advocating that it be done to Coulter. Me, I would rather people stand up and call her what she is. I don't want them to ban her from anything, but I would love it if the Republican right that advocated all the crap against the Dixie Chicks refused to let her give speeches.
-
I did. I posted and told her (and everyone else) straight-out that she was misrepresenting the results. I mean, were the conclusions she added probably true? Yeah. But the authors did not make them because they didn't have enough evidence. If they DID have the evidence to make the conclusion, they WOULD have.

Ron's not been here for a couple of days. Wonder if he finally gave up the goat?

Very true. I'd still love to think that Bush is an okay guy that is being advised by people that are at the bottom of the barrel, in terms of honesty and humanity, but more and more I am coming to the realization that the guy's just a genuinely nasty person. -

To be honest, I'd be willing to pit his aptitude for presidency against the Shrub. He could hardly be worse. -
This day just gets better and better. I got paid today, and I found the last pay check I had gotten, so I was able to deposit two paychecks into my account. Much needed! I found out that I got a 100 on the exam I took a couple of weeks ago! It's the week before Spring Break! I only have to get through the classes tomorrow, the one I have Wednesday night, and the seminar I have to go to on Friday morning, and I'm FREE for a WHOLE WEEK! We are giving midterms this week in the labs! Yay! I get to fail assholes! (Unless you are a teacher , you have no idea how much fun that is!) I got my evaluations back from the labs I taught last semester. For the most part, they are very good, and so much better than the ones I got the first semester I taught (this semester is the 4th). I had a couple of so-so ones, but I figure I can disregard them, since they couldn't even spell my name right. The lady that adminstered them writes the name of the instructor on the board for each lab, for Pete's sake!

I smack you with the fish o' karma! May you be blessed!

Oh, yack. :puke:I think I'll avoid the program when it re-airs, then. Speaking of Discovery programs, did anyone see "Expedition Borneo"? Now THAT was the type of program I like. I'd kill to do something like that, bugs and all. -
Have you tried scallion beef (most places call it mongolian beef)? I think I'll die if I'm not able to eat that after I get banded, because it is the best stuff out there (at least at the chinese place I love). There is one place in Memphis, though, that makes something called chicken with onions and peppers, and it is incredible. It's sweet, but tangy and has a delayed kick to it (lots of red pepper flakes). It has peanuts in it, too, which give it a nice crunch.
