    It's on him now.

Well, if we get out of Iraq, we can put that money towards the immigration problem.

    So I see this car...

To me, it's irritating because it implies that Christians can do anything they want and still go to Heaven because they're "forgiven".

    Upper GI question again

    Thanks, Jack.
  4. How long did it take you to get the results of your upper GI test? I had mine done on Wednesday, and I'd like to call the doctor's office today to have them send the results of the test to the surgeon's office.

Unfortunately, if we don't have a time table, we'll never get out of Iraq. The Iraqis need to know that we aren't going to be there forever and that they've got a limited amount of time to get their shit together. Right now, they know that the US will be there to pick up the pieces and baby them along, so they aren't exactly giving it their all. All the while, we're losing men.

It's great, isn't it? The man needs to learn how to compromise. It's always been his way or the highway, and this Congress isn't going to roll over like a whipped dog and let him do anything he wants. He could have avoided this if he had actually formally funded the war when it started. That would have happened under the Republican congress. Sucks for him that he waited until the Dems were in power to try to get formal funding. Exactly. It's not like every other bill passed in Congress isn't chock full of pork. That's how just about any bill gets passed. I bet that if the bills passed in the Republican congress were closely examined, they'd look like a side of bacon. It's just how congress works.

Have you seen the one shaped like a UFO?

    So I see this car...

That's exactly why I don't get a Darwin fish. I live in a relatively rural part of Kentucky, and I'm not taking the chance that some redneck Christian will mess up my car.
  10. I'm not sure what to think. In some cases, I think spanking is the right decision, but in others I think that the parent can easily go too far. To me, it isn't something that should be done in anger, because the parent could easily hurt the child. I think that in many cases, children get spanked when the parent is angry or embarassed, and they may not necessarily realize how much strength they are using or may not be very careful of where the strikes are hitting on the child. I think it is an action that can easily get out of hand, and you can't tell a parent that they can spank their children in some situations but not in others. For that reason, I guess I advocate banning it entirely. You can either allow it at all times or allow it at no time. I gues I think that the majority of children can be disciplined in ways that don't become physical. I think that a lot of behavior (especially in young children) is learned, and that bad behavior can be headed off by not allowing the child to learn that he will get his way if he acts like that in the first place. To me, that doesn't require physical punishments, just stability and continuity of whatever punishment you give them.

In certain cases, yes, I do. I don't look healthy, and to me, the fact that they've noticed it and care to mention it to me means that they do care about me. Is it supportive if they are constantly harping about it? No. But I do think that telling someone in a kind way that they don't look healthy (when they really don't) isn't unsupportive. I never said she looked "bad". I said she looked better with a few more pounds on her. Even looking skeletal (to me, anyway), she looks better than when she looked completely swollen right before she had surgery.

    REALLY Icky.

I had my upper GI this morning. I nearly puked on the radiologist. It was horrible! They didn't want me burping the fizzy stuff, but I was gagging so much on the barium that every time I gagged, I'd burp. They finally let me stop drinking the barium because I wasn't able to force any more down. They were wanting me to gulp it, but I was barely able to drink it in small sips. Think slightly thinned cake batter for the consistency of the stuff. I think I probably would have puked if I had had to drink more of it. By the time they finally finished saying "gulp it!" to me, I was ready to say "YOU gulp it, asshole!" I felt like a dog when I they were doing it, too, the way the kept ordering me around. Turn on your right side. Turn on your left side. Roll over on your belly. Roll over all the way.

    Wth???

The surgeons in Mexico will do it if you are only 20 pounds over weight.

It is, but you don't see us supporting anorexics (if we had them here) by saying, "You look so great now that you've lost weight!" You can support a person's need to be healthy without thinking that they look wonderful. To me, pretending that a person looks wonderful when they really don't isn't supportive at all. I'm all for calling a spade a spade. Star looks much better than she did when she was at her heaviest, and I'm sure she's much healthier. That doesn't mean we can't think that she would look better (and to me, healthier) with a few more pounds on her. Personally, I hope like hell that someone would be kind enough to point out to me when I don't look my best, especially when it is something that I could change. And really, I thought it was widely accepted that many RNY patients really don't look that great, or that healthy. In many cases, they have sallow skin, they look ill, and they get cracked hair, skin, and teeth. To recognize that fact doesn't mean we don't fully support the fact that they had RNY to save their lives.

    "Savage Nation"

Anyone else ever listened to this asshole? He (Savage) runs a conservative talk radio show. I catch bits of it occasionally on my 3 1/2 hour drive home, since it is one of only a couple of stations that come in. I don't understand how someone with so much obvious hate for anyone who isn't a heterosexual WASP can actually get enough listeners to keep his show from being cancelled. He's horrible. I have never been so disgusted by a person in my life, and I'm most disturbed by the fact that he passes himself off as a faithful Christian. It's utterly mind-boggling to me.

    "Savage Nation"

To be honest, that's why I hope that Savage does run for President. He'll alienate moderate voters, making them vote for a Democrat, I think. Even if he isn't the final Republican candidate (which he will never be), I think he'll be so far right of center that he'll piss off moderate and liberal Republicans, making them a lot more likely to vote Democrat. I actually think that is a benefit to the ultra-conservatives at this point. The Republican party has catered to them to the point that they are really making more moderate or liberal (as liberal as a Republican can get, anyway) Republicans wary of their own party. The general public doesn't want ultra-conservatives in power anymore.

She looks skeletal to me, with her head being way too large for her body. She looked better when she was heavy, to be honest. Not at her heaviest, right before she had surgery, but the way she looked at the beginning of The View.

    Best Man? First Guy?

Wouldn't it be one out of three, since it was what was to become the Middle East?
  20. Following the advice of a surgeon and doctors who have performed this surgery many times and have had many patients makes someone a pussy? Nice to know. For the record, I hope nothing goes wrong with your band. But I think you are taking an extreme chance. You won't know if something goes wrong until it goes wrong. While I think your willingness to possibly sacrifice your band and your health is absolutely irresponsible, it's your own body. I think it is doubly irresponsible, though, for you to tell other people that they can do it and have nothing go wrong. So to everyone out there, I guess the moral of the story is to listen to your doctor and your nutritionist. They have a shitload more experience than any of us do, so FOLLOW THEIR ADVICE. It's a few measly weeks out of the rest of your life. A few weeks. Not months. Not years. Weeks, for Pete's sake. It won't kill anyone to actually follow the advice of your surgeon for that long.

    "Savage Nation"

Ditto. I could not comprehend voting for someone that was anti-choice or ant-gay rights. Well, like you, I guess I would consider it if there were other, more important issues at stake. But even then, I would have to think long and hard about my beliefs and whether I thought that ending a war was worth the possible erosion of our rights. There are several types of people that I would never consider voting for, but I think I would start a fight if I said what they were.

    "Savage Nation"

No one here hates or despises him for everything. But we do think he should be held responsible for the things he has done, the decisions he's made, and the results of those.

    LapBand vs. Gastric Bypass?

What I was referring to by "no skeleton look" was the appearance that many people who have had RNY get. You know, the way they look like their head is way too large for their body. A great example of the skeletal look is Star Jones (even though she doesn't admit having RNY). When you lose weight very quickly, you get this unhealthy look.

    Why is it...

Why is it that you always get either hungry or thirsty when you can't have anything after midnight?
