  1. That's not true. Just when the stuff you post IS wrong. Don't blame us for discrediting that crap. Blame yourself for posting it in the first place.
  2. I definitely don't believe everything I hear about Bush. But the fact that some people do doesn't mean that it's right that you pass along crazy conspiracy theories, either. Whatever happened to "be the better person" and all that crap? And I'm sure if you looked back at any of our lives, we all came in contact with a lot of people that died under circumstances that could be interpreted as "suspicious" if they were twisted enough. For example, a 1st cousin of mine was murdered, a second cousin of mine died in an unwitnessed ATV accident, an aquaintance of my brother's that I had been around drowned, several of my schoolmates died of overdoses, one schoolmate died of a brain aneurism, the wife of one of my university's deans and a couple of my schoolmates were killed in the recent plane crash in Lexington, Kentucky, etc., etc., etc. Does the fact that I am connected to all of them in some way or another mean that I killed them all?

    Is Global Warning A Hoax!

From Wikipedia (emphasis mine). Yeah, they've got lots of scientifically valid ideas.
  4. http://www.snopes.com/politics/clintons/bodycount.asp I tried to post the entire article, but it wouldn't let me highlight it, for some reason.
  5. I am waiting to see if I get a surgery date. I still have a couple weeks before I have to apply, if I decide to go for the internship. I don't want to apply and then find out that I've been scheduled for surgery when I would have to be in Virginia. Plus, I need to talk to my advisor, to see if he wants me to do some more fieldwork for my thesis this summer.
  6. Thanks Carlene, I was wondering who those people were. I think I am going to chalk those up there with the JFK assassination and the US entry into WWII conspiracy theories.

    Is Global Warning A Hoax!

You managed to leave the "Both were wrong" statement off the end of your quote. That is what I was debating. Obviously, they weren't necessarily wrong if there are still measurable effects being seen today. Therefore, your statement was incorrect.

    The God Question...

We're a lot alike, but I believe the exact opposite of you. I believe that Jesus existed, but I don't believe in God. I think that Jesus was a regular man with great charisma, much like modern cult leaders are today.

And about the forest thing... All forests are not equal. All forests do not have the same attributes, the same species inhabiting them, the same environmental "credibility", etc. A hundred acres of homogenous 20 year-old trees that are planted an equal distance apart does not come close to equaling a hundred acres of virgin old-growth forest or a hundred acres of virgin rainforest. When you cut a rainforest, what grows back isn't rainforest. Sure, you'll get trees and plants, but those species that comprise the rainforest don't grow back without the very specific conditions that real rainforest provides. There are a lot of animal species out there that live only in old-growth forest and nowhere else. They don't live in 40 year-old second-growth forest. They don't live in super-homogenous man-made forests.

    Is Global Warning A Hoax!

No, I'm not. Im saying that you were wrong in saying that the environmentalists were wrong about there being no lasting effects of the oil spill and oil fires. You posted an incorrect statement and I corrected you. That's it.

    Is Global Warning A Hoax!

No, this is what you said. You literally said that they were wrong about the environments never being the same.

  15. We're so calm, relaxed, and accepting over here! Has anyone peeked into the thread that was recently started for the Christians? There is a major difference in the feelings of the two threads!
  16. How about an Atheist getting an MS in biology (and probably a PhD, after I get the MS)?

    This forum is dangerous

TO be fair to everyone involved, without seeing the PM in question with my own eyes, I'm not sure I believe that it exists. After all, you can claim anything on the internet, but it doesn't mean it's actually true. And to be honest, what was supposedly in the "nasty PM", wasn't all that "nasty". It's the responsibility of the person claiming that they've received a "nasty PM" to prove that they actually received it. It's not the responsibility of the person that supposedly sent it to prove that they didn't.

Do Not Go To Betencourt Medical

Um. Making sense? Not so much.
  20. That's definitely the way a lot of people think. Personally, I think I worked damn hard to get where I am, and it would be a shame to play dumb just because some people still think they are in 5th grade and can't handle other people having an opinion. So everyone out there, if you are intelligent, for Pete's sake, show it! If you know something, talk about it! Don't sit back and let people bully you into shutting up, just because they think you are "blathering"! I always hated seeing the "cheerleader types" in school, because I knew damn well that most of them were intelligent people. Unfortunately, they preferred to stand around twirling their hair, and saying to the guys, "Um, like, wow, could you help me with this? It's haaaard!"

    12 hours. Crap.

Well, I made it through it okay! It ran a little bit shorter than I wanted, but it wasn't bad. There was a clock in the back of the room that I kept staring at and think, "I need to slow down! I need to slow down!" Of course, that made me more stressed out, and I wound up forgetting a lot of what I was going to say. My professor didn't want the presentation slides to be "wordy", so I was basically doing it by memorization, having just a short sentence or sentence fragment on the actual slide. Not a bad method, but not the best when you are completely stressed out and nervous. On the up side, I slept wonderfully on Friday night! I had gotten very little sleep the week before the seminar, so I was dead to the world on Friday night. I had been up until 2 AM on Friday morning, working on the presentation, and then got up and went to the campus at 7 AM to work on it some more. I learned a very good lesson about procrastinating, though. Of course, I should have already learned it by now, as many presentations and class projects that I've had to do in the last several years.
  22. Did I manage to miss something? I left for about 45 minutes. Oh, well. I'll reply to the post that you quoted anyway, since I am assuming it was directed towards me, from your post. I'm sorry, am I supposed to refrain from posting about my worries and the things I need support for because you think I am "blathering"? Or is it that you expect me to not speak up when I have a certain opinion or (gasp!) may actually have a little bit more knowledge about some things than other people? Should I just pat people on the head and say, "Well done, there", even if they obviously have no clue what they are posting about? Since when is it "blathering" to participate in a debate and actually know what you are talking about?
  23. Carlene, you just gave me the giggles! :clap2: I was going to say something, but you beat me to it.

    Anyone from Memphis or Collierville,TN?

There are several people from that area that post here. I am from Crossville, but I will be getting banded by Dr. McGrath-Weaver at St. Francis in Memphis.

    Kill me now.

I can't wait until this freaking week is over. I have my yearly GYN appointment tomorrow (fun, oh fun) and I have to give an hour-long seminar presentation on my thesis topic on Friday morning. I am stressed to the point where I just want to go hide under my bed until it all passes. Plus, I am having to decide whether or not I want to apply for an internship for this summer, depend on my advisor to help me get a position as a field assistant to one of the other grad students, or do more field work for my own thesis. I found the most perfect-sounding internship for this summer, working as a shorebird monitoring intern at a national wildlife refuge in Virginia for 12 weeks. The problem, you ask? My surgery is supposed to be this summer, but I don't know when. Plus, I have to go to two nutrition classes that are two weeks apart. Add on the meeting with the surgeon, and I'm doomed to stay in Kentucky for the summer. Damn it. It's just like the best-sounding PhD programs. The best opportunities come along when you can't take them.
