Exactly. People act like it's so freakin' difficult to ignore a thread. It isn't hard at all. You just don't click on it whenver you see it pop up. Even those poor newbies can figure it out. Heck, even I figured it out. There are lots of threads here that I am not interested in.

Cheaper than Bariatriceating.com

My god, Bubble, I want to kiss you. :sleep:dance: These veggie chips are awesome! Just eating these makes the whole order worthwhile. I wish I had gotten more, now. They're wonderful, yet I am satisfied with just a small handful. -

Hey, Bubble, I got my stuff today! I've tried some of it, but not all, yet. The plums that I got are delish! The cantaloupe is actually surprisingly good, too. I'm not super-fond of the pears, though. They're a little too sweet for me. They may grow on me though, because they have a pretty good after-taste. It's just the original texture that throws me off. I've not tried anything else yet, but I'm pretty happy so far. I bet the chocolate espresso beans will be yummy! -
Yeah, I'm thinking my sarcasm went over some heads. The difference between the two is that you have an option available to remove those thread titles from what you are viewing. There isn't a way to not see the ads.

That's true, but that's not my reason for disliking the ads. While I do think they are misleading, the main reason I object to them is that I think they look horrible and they keep the site from loading quickly. What people choose to believe or disbelieve is up to them. They're adults. I just think that we should be able to give back to Alex, since he created this site and takes care of it. He's created this great place of support, and he deserves OUR support because of it. So if my donation means one or two fewer ads on this site, I'd be happy to donate.

I think it would be best for all people interested in the surgery to not be biased or disturbed by lots of ads for jumbo-capacity toilets, BO-reducing tablets, and plastic surgery ads. It's for their own good. It's protection. Don't want to drive the poor little things away, now do we? Nothing's preventing you going and looking at those sites. It would just be an added feature to prevent newbies from being disillusioned. Really, I just hate the way the ads look. I think they take advantage of the poor body image of fat people. Heck, just look at the ones over on OH. Plus, the ads increase the loading time for that site. Even with the ones we have here right now, the site takes forever to load sometimes.
-
How about adding a feature where people can donate to help with costs? I'd personally rather do that than have large ads all over the site.

Personally, I love this place because it isn't neutral. There are so many places out there that just shut you down if you want to discuss anything remotely off-topic, places with lots and lots of rules about what can or can't be posted and about how everything has to be posted. I am so afraid that if this change happens, there will be a slippery slope of change, and LBT will eventually turn into OH. That would be a shame, IMO.

Woo HOO!! Supreme Court upholds Partial Birth Abortion Ban!!!!

Definitely. -
Just think, the more you lose now, the less you have to lose after you're banded. I'm pretty good. Tired, though, but I think that is because I don't get enough Protein. I'm starting to think I might have sleep apnea, also, so I really wish I had gotten tested for it.

I actually somewhat agree with you, Funny. I don't think that someone should be charged with murder if they kill a non-viable fetus. I also think that assisted suicide should be legal. -
Donating to LBT?
anonemouse replied to anonemouse's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah, that's part of my position, also. I don't like the prospect of rules changing to make advertisers happy. To me, OH is a good (or bad, whichever way you want to look at it) example of that. To me, they are about making money, so they don't allow anything to disrupt that. They want to keep the maximum amount of people on the site, which is in turn good for their advertisers (resulting in OH making more money through ads), so they let stupid stuff happen. Take their censorship rules, for example. They let their members delete entire threads and refuse other members the right to post in "their" threads. If there is a post in a thread that the thread-starter doesn't like or agree with, the moderators have to remove it if they are asked. -
In total? Since late October. But I had to change from my original surgeon in late January, after all my stuff had been submitted to insurance, because I found out that they wouldn't pay for that surgeon. I have been waiting since then with this other surgeon. There's just been a lot of problems with the offices of both surgeons losing or failing to send materials, waiting for appointments, having tests dones, etc. I've lost probably a total of a couple of months just because faxes didn't get to the right offices or the offices lost my stuff. As you can imagine, it's very frustrating, especially when you see lots of people that started the process after you getting banded before you. But the wait is almost over! Now I need to start finding good Protein sources and making reservations at a motel for the nights my nutrition classes are on (7 1/2 hour drive one way to the surgeon's office).

Donating to LBT?
anonemouse replied to anonemouse's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah, it took about 5 minutes for the main page to load for me, and I use cable internet. The Google ads don't bother me. (They're easily ignored, lol!) I just don't want the type of obnoxious advertising like OH has. -
And that's great that they found other places that they like better. That's why variety is the spice of life.

Neal, the RnR and Talk Lounge forums have a grand total of around 70,000 posts in them, and only about 3,000 threads. There are more than 153,000 posts in over 11,000 threads in General Lap-Band Discussion alone. Add in the other 19 or so band-only forums, and you can see that there is no "lack of concentration on band support."

Just starting out...have questions about comorbidities..
anonemouse replied to LMJLMJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am actually pretty similar to the original poster. MY BMI is under 40. I am considered prediabetic and I have PCOS. I did get approved by insurance, though, but that may because I have a very heavy family history of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, among other conditions. I think you just need to try and see. -

Exactly. No. You asked why the law was like it is. That is my interpretation. You'll have to ask your law-makers if you want a better answer. -
And again, members already have that ability.
-
Exactly. Every site appeals to different people. There are people at OH that think it couldn't be better. I pretty much despise OH. Every site has different perks. Some people like that OH lets people have other people's posts removed from their threads, even when they aren't offensive. I hate it. I personally love the off-topic areas here at LBT. That's why I stuck around. Other people probably don't agree. That's fine. We can't please everybody. Someone being turned off by this board isn't being left without support. There are other boards that they can go to, ones that fit their values better.

anonemouse replied to gadgetlady's topic in Rants & Raves
It's a living being in terms of crime. I would imagine that if a woman was on her way to have an abortion and was killed, the state would only recognize her death, and not her fetus's. This is highly simplified, but think of it in terms of spanking your child. It's legal for you, as a parent, to spank your child. If a stranger tried to turn your child over his knee and spank his rear, it would be considered assault. It's a matter of who is doing it. A woman getting an abortion is doing it because she wishes to. If, on the other hand, someone beats her and kills the fetus that she wanted, the loss of her fetus is against her will. -
Then they should register. I don't see why we should have to make rule changes to keep people that aren't even members happy.

From what I've found, I think it varies. Most violent crime is considered to be under a state's jurisdiction. Fetal Homicide: A Question of When Do We Become Human -
But there is already a viable alternative for those people! We don't have to make changes for everyone!
