  1. That's awesome. I know I was excited when I got my date for the surgery. They are doing it differently now though because I knew mine after my first appointment with Dr. Lutfi. Erin will have you go on a 2 week liquid diet pre op. I did the slim fast low carb and lost 20 pounds. I bought a case of 15 from Sam's club for about $20. Then after surgery I bought the sugar free jellos and sugar free popsicles. I had broth too. You will be on clear liquids the first 2 weeks then full liquids. On the full liquids I had the slim fast and the 80 calorie yogurt , jello, sugar free pudding. I even made egg white scrambled and added a slice of fat free cheese. Just wanted to give you an idea of what to look forward to post op. I got my staples out a week after surgery and was told I could exercise again. I walk and go to the YMCA. My seminar was Feb 17, my consultation was in March, that day I got my surgery date of May 18 so yeah you are close. I am excited for you.

  2. My surgery went great. Everybody is different but once my surgery was over, I wanted to walk around. I think I was in my room not even 5 minutes, and I asked the nurses if I could walk. I had dry mouth and felt like there was phlem in my throat but that was because of the breathing tube that they put in my mouth during surgery. They did give me some lemon swabs to take the dryness away. I didn't even have to ask for the pain meds, the nurses just came in and gave them to me whenever it was time. The heprin shots they give to prevent blood clots bruised me up. I stayed in the hospital overnight. Dr. Lutfi is very nice. I lost 37 pounds so far. 20 pounds I lost on the 2 week preop diet drinking slim fast low carb. The other 17 pounds I lost after the band was placed, but it seems it has slowed a bit because I am back on solid foods now. I have my first fill on July 14th. It is worth it though. So have you went to any classes yet?

    New Here

Hello everybody. I am new to the forums here . I have been a lurker for awhile now and just recently decided to come out of my shell. My name is Hope . I am 30 years old and live in Illinois. I have been battling my weight all of my life. I believe the fat gene runs in my mom's family though because they are all big like me. My Family Doctor recommended the Lap Band for me. He called a Bariatric Surgeon here where I live and made an appointment for me. Today was my first consultation. It was nothing like I expected. He told me that it will be a long process and take 6 months. Wow, that is a very long time to wait but I guess I have to be patient. I told him about researching the surgery here on this forum. He really didn't have much to say because he said that if he covered everything today then I would forget it all by my next appointment which he made in 3 months from now. I have an appointment on the 20th of this month for the seminar so he told me to go to that and then go from there. I have called my insurance which is Medicaid and asked them if it was covered and the man told me that it is as long as it is medically necessary. I spoke with the woman who made the appointment for me for the seminar and asked her if the surgeon accepts medicaid because I have read a lot on this forum about Doctors not accepting it, and she said yes as long as I live in the same county. I was so excited about it until my consultation today. I guess I should have just went to the seminar first and then went from there. Can anybody tell me what to expect in a seminar? What do they do? Anyways sorry this turned out with me venting at the end. Anyways, I am glad to be a part of this forum. I hope to get to know some of you better on here.
