Thinking about the Lap Band Procedure
sallyjo replied to makopp's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mary, Welcome to LBT from East Texas. I have been banded for five years come April. I would not take for my lap band. I got within ten pounds of my goal and felt very comfortable at my age and go back and forth five pounds or so. I was 62 when I was banded. I have never had any big problems with my band. I know when I have to much fill and when I don't have enough. I am empty as of now and go in on the 25th for a small fill. I can promise you if you work with your band and have a great doctor the pounds will drop. You seem to have the same worries I had. Will I ever be able to go out to eat again or eat normal foods? Yes you can.I was a cheesburger and fries person a lot. I had my first one half junior burger one year after my band. I just did'nt want it. The only time I have any problems is when I cause them by eating to fast, not small enough bites and trying to drink with my meals. Good luck to you Mary and if I can help just give me a shout. Don't mind at all. Sallyjo I never adusted my ticker at bottom. I also lived in Houston when I had by band done. dhinson@cablelynx.com -

Well hello everyone. We are working on five years. Can you believe it.? I have been doing great. Went to my fill doctor here in Longview,Texas last October. Was having acid reflux. He said why don't we empty it for a little while. Well what a mistake. I have gained twelve pounds, but boy did I enjoy the holidays.First time in five years but the ole jeans are a little tighter also. Called this week for a fill and can't get in until the 25th but I think I can control it until then. I know exactly what to do. My band is still very finiky. I cant hold over 1cc and usually 3/4. Its supposed to hold around 4 but for some reason never has.Hope all of you are doing great.Would love to hear from you. Love, Sallyjo

What have I done to myself!!!
sallyjo replied to shelyshely's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Shely,Your problem brings back old memories.I don't live to far from you. Longview,Texas. I am almost 4 and 1/2 years along with my band. Had it done in Houston. We are very close in the weight we need and needed to lose. I had surgery in April and had reached goal right after Christmas. It is nothing but a learning process and eating healthy. You really have to work with the band.I go ten pounds over and then back down. I know exactly what to do to get back down. I have had a fairly great banded life, after I figured out my band will not hold but 1 and 1/2 cc of fill. If I can be of any other help to you please let me know. Will be more than happy to ans. any questions you have and to help you reach your goal. Good luck. Sallyjo -

April 06 Bandsters, how are we doing?
sallyjo replied to Bostongurl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey to all 4-06 bandsters.Four years almost three months for me . I often think of all of you that were on this website and what fun we had and when I was new how all the ones before us helped us out. The secert pals we used to have from all over the country. I did reach my goal and still never go up over ten pounds and then back down. Oh yeah the cruise a bunch of us took together and my ------band so tight it almose ruined by whole cruise and I called my doctor when we docked in Galveston and he called me back with-in five min. and called the ER at the nearest hospital in Houston and I said take it all out. The ER doc ask me what was the best part of my cruise and I told him it would have been the food but I could'nt eat. My band has never been able to hold very much at all. I only have 1cc now and really need about another half. It has been sometime since I have had one.Never had any serious problems with my band. Used to be anywhere from three- to four months after a fill it would get so tight( cruise ) that I would have to have some taken out Okay enough out of me. Molly you stay with it,as we always knew it will work if we work at it. And yes Kat I am going to ans. your so sweet message to me. Love to all Sallyjo:smile2: -

Hey Julie, Great to hear from you. Yes the 23rd will be four years for me and I still love my band. Go up and down ten pounds from my goal but thats my fault. lol. I have'nt been on board to much lately. I have had three deaths in my family since Nov. 09. One being my precious daughter on 11/07. I feel like I am just now coming back to realty a little. Hope you are doing great with your band. And the same to all the rest of us April 06 bandsters. Love Sallyjo:smile: -
Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Surgery date is March 25th and need mentor.
sallyjo replied to Kimmiev3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Donna, Just hang in there. I started on shakes ( slim fast) chicken broth, graduated to cream of chicken soup and mashed potatoes. When I started solids my wonderful doctor told me nothing under three ounces and nothing over six ounces. I followed his directions to the tee and it worked fine. My first pb was when I woke up from a nap and grabbed a bite of watermelom from the fridge. Ate it to fast. Just always remember our bands are not miracle workers, we have to work with them. Hope you are feeling pretty good by now. I never stopped when I got home ( same day ). Was walking a block the next day. I lost 69 pounds.I was 62 when I had my surgery. I am down to a size 10-12 and feel very comfortable.Had trouble after every 10 lb. lose but after a few days it would start dropping again. The best of luck to you and let me know any questions you have. Hey Ladies, Kat I think of you all the time. I have'nt been on this board much but so glad to hear from you, and you too Susan.I have been 5 and ten pounds from goal for over a year now. Have been very comfortable where I am. I have very little fill but maintain great and my band is still doing its job with my help.I still see my reflection sometimes and can't believe it's me. Have felt wonderful. Kat you hang in there sweetie and you will make it. Love to all and the best of luck. Sallyjo:drool: -
I only had two attacks after being banded for almost two years. The second one sent me to ER. The very next day an ultra sound and the next week gall bladder surgery. Two good things about my surgery. It was a very easy surgery and my surgeon was also a lapband surgeon and after I woke up he said I checked your band while I was in there and everything looks great. So get it ultra sounded. The first attack scared me but by the second one I had read enough on this board to almost know what it was. Good luck Laurend.

To those of you that I cruised with last summer and those of you that know about my daughter. On Feb. 9th I received a call that my niece in Beaumont,Texas fell at her home and was brain dead and was about to be removed from life support. After a lot of phone calls and prayers her family donated her liver to my daughter. They were very close in age and their blood type was an exact match. Well after two tramactic days of going back and forth with Baylor Liver Inst. we found out the liver was to fatty and was of no use to anyone, then we found out someone got the liver that only had 24 hours to live. Horrible communication break down on Baylors behalf but we know it just was'nt in God's plan at this time. Thanks for all the prayers on behalf of Pam.Kat I got your birthday wish.Just have'nt had time to respond. My niece passed away on Monday which was my birthday and her funeral was in West Texas so we have had a very busy week. Thanks again to everyone. Sallyjo

Hey Letha, Kat and all you oldies that were there for me in April 06. I check this board every great now and then. Letha am so glad you are doing good, have thought of you often.I now have my daughter as some of you know has end stage liver disease living with me along with my 15 year old grandaughter. Finally went and got them last Sept. Got to where I spent all my time in West Texas so just brought them here. Pam has good days and a lot of bad days. She is moving up on the MELD score at Baylor for a transplant, and of course having a teenager in the house is another story. But she is a sweetheart and she keeps you young until about 8:30 at night when I collapse. lol. I stay in touch with several from the oldies. Kat can you believe it has been almost two years since we were banded. I am still doing great. About three pounds from goal and maintaing well. Had the ole gall bladder removed two weeks ago and the surgeon that did it also does lapbands here in East Texas and said he checked it while in there and all looked great. Okay Now Carlene where are you? Love ya all, Sallyjo:smile:

A place for bandsters in their 60's
sallyjo replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Charlene and Everyone, Hope everyone is doing great. Jack you and I seem to be in the same boat, except I only like 8 pounds being at goal but I am almost ashamed to say that I have liked those same 8-10 pounds for way to long. I guess I need a good butt kicking. Can't seem to get the good ole motivation going and am staying to comfortable where I am. Charlene it was about 37 years ago that I was in a size ten. lol. I even got down to a seven. I am afraid if I go that far down now I will look like an old prune. A little bit of humor from my isx year old grandaughter this summer while visiting me. I was about to take a shower and she said are'nt you gonna take your panties off. I said of course and she said oh Nana you have wrinkles in your butt. The best to you all. Sallyjo:) -
Hey Arty, Welcome from East Texas. Hope you are doing well. It gets better day by day. I was walking four blocks the day after mine, and you will feel much better after the swelling goes down.I need to change my ticker as I am almost to goal and that is'nt the bands fault. I just kinda got comfortable where I am now. The best to you. Sallyjo:)

Welcome to the lapband site and your decision to get banded. Now that you have read the complications, stay away from thst site. I am 16 months out and right at goal and I can truly tell you that if you have a good surgeon and follow his instructions you will be fine. Its normal to be a little nervous, we all were. This is the best decision I have ever made in my life and would do it again in a heartbeat. The best of luck to you. Sallyjo:)

Well you have a lot of Spivak patients around you. Dr. Spiegel did my surgery 15 months ago and I am almost at goal. No ones fault but mine that I am not already there. I no longer live in Houston but I do know there are several support groups around. Let me know what part you are in and I will try to help. Congradulations on your band and the best of luck.

Elmat1, Welcome and congrats on doing so well. Isn't the band a wonderful tool. I am almost at goal and have felt and look so much better. Do you know my great friend Alison Hirst from Athens. She also is a lapbander. She was just in Texas and went on a lapband cruise with us.I plan on visiting her one day so now I will have two Greeklish ladies to visit. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to the "At or near goal forum"
sallyjo replied to Chickie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Glad to see this thread. I am nine pounds from goal and am empty from fills for the first time. Had problems with getting way to tight after having fill for several weeks and getting unfills so thought I would give it a rest for a little while. Have been maintaining for almost a month now but will watch it very closely. I know there are a lot more of us close to goal. -
Alex, I am so proud for you. Just hang in and you will be back with us before you know it ( not that you ever left us ). I have been keeping up with you and praying, I just don't post much anymore but have been reading yours since before I got banded. I'm going on 15 months out and doing great. Almost at goal. The best to you.:whoo:
