marieg started following Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?, Gastric sleeve vs other bariatric surgeries, Bougie size and and 4 others

Just had GSV.second guessing my decision.wondering if Inshould have done lap band first as it is less invasive and restriction lasts longer .or if I should have done gastric bypass as it has long term documentation and greater long term success rate. My bmi is 37.i originally opted out of gastric bypass due to fear of malabsorption and thought it has more severe side effects.i have just read the description for gastric sleeve and bypass in this forum and not so confident that GSV has less side effects.please share your thoughts.

Hi Its not scientific.i have several friends that have gotten a 32fr bougie in mexico vs the standard 40 bougie most NY Drs do.it seems that my friends with the smaller bougie ate better able to reach their goal weight and are having an easier time maintaining 3 years post sleeve.

I can ask.but would rather get an answer before meeting with them,so I can avoid an unnecessary trip.
-
The smaller the bougie the More restriction you have.thus a more effective tool.

It seems to me that bougie size has a direct correlation with long term success.i would like to choose surgeon based on the bougie size they use.is anyone familiar with bougie size Dr Roslin or Dr Pomp in NY use?

I started researching lapband 4 yrs ago.2 yhears ago I decided to go for it but chickened out after reading some disappointing posts here. After much research I am concerned about LONG TERM failure rates. I am considering lapband again, after many natural failure attempts....I need words of encouragement from long term bandsters.......LAPBAND failures please dont give ur comments as I dont want to get discouraged again.(i know its not the smartest choice for me but it is a DESPERATE decision for me.

there is nothing wrong with doing this out of vanity IF you are aware of All potential problems and risk and think it is worth it..... -
Trying to lose weight without banding
marieg posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I have been doing a lot of research on these boards and have decided that because I don't have any health problems form my excess weight and there are many complications due to banding further down the road,I am giving natural weight loss one more shot.I am looking to lose about 60- 70 pds.Anyone out there who would lliketo buddy up with me????...Let's give it our all before we decide to do a surgery. -

Do you know the rhyme "There was a little girl with lots of curls,When she was good she was VERY good;and when she was bad she was VERY bad. That is my way of looking at the band. From all my research my OPINION is that :When the band goes good it is VERY good and when it goes bad it can be VERY bad.As long as it goes well you won't feel the affects of a FOREIGN object but if it goes bad it will feel VERY foreign. -

"NATURAL " means NO foreign object in your body.BTW I do beleive in banding for people with a high BMI.I beleive the risks of their obesityis greater than the risks of banding.I wieghed 220 at one time and I must say the extra 20 lbs made me feel horrible physically and emotinally .So I can attest to the fact that the higher your BMI the more reasoning you have to do the band. -

If I fail to maintain my weight loss I will resort to LAPBAND.I just want to make sure that if and when I do resort to LAPBAND I wont look back and say"Why didn't I try my best the natural way".I will know that I gave it my all . -

Sorry if I sounded judgemental...I beleive in surgery as a last resort.I think to many people jump into it without having a clue of what complications can ensue. But of course everyone has the right to do whatever they please with their body. -

I weigh 200 pds and am 5"4 I am 37 and have struggled with my weight since I am 12.I was seriously considering lapband as I figured "what is the point of losing weight again only to regain it.I went to a seminar and booked my physical and nutriotnal appt. However after checking out the message boards and realizing tha NO ONE knows the long term affects ,in additon to scores of people have unpleasant complications.I decided to give dieting one last shot and hopefully I will be able to maintain it within 25 pds.I believe that ONLY after you are 100% sure that NO other way will do it for you, lapband is an option.LAPBAND should not be thought of as a cosemtic procedure or just another diet.LAPBAND is SERIOUS business.
