Personal Introduction-Working out my Ideas
lucyavery replied to WorkHorse999's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey good luck to you. The band would probably be very good for you. I love Dave Ramsey, I have couple of his books and went to see him live. I would love to say that I am debt free and I was there except for the house. However, I did take out a loan for the Lab-Band. To me it was worth it because the band is changing my life and worth every penny. I do not regret in one bit. Good luck -
Hey good luck to you, this really can change your life for the better, just keep informed and on top of things. The gas pains eased some with walking and taking some gas-x. My worst pain was in my left shoulder area. That was the worst because there was nothing I could do to ease the pain and it lasted for weeks. Some people have left shoulder pain and some don't. Best Wishes

I had my lap-band procedure on June 19th 2008. I was at my witts end trying to lose weight only to turn around and put it right back on again. I started my weightloss journey weighing in at 240 pounds. I feel like I need to say weighing in at a hefty 240 pounds from the red cornor is Lucy......... This past year, 2008 was a stressfull year for me. I lost my mom January 29th 2008. She was 61 years old and I was 35 with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. It was devastating and still is. Then I looked into the lap-band procedure after talking to one of my aunts. Since I was self-pay everything started falling into place very fast...faster than I had time to adjust to it myself. Seriously, it was only a month from the time I started the process until I had the surgery. I did not have time to wrap my head around it and worried that I was not doing the right thing. But I had prayed about and everything was falling into place, so I went for it and I'm thankful that I did. Then I changed jobs. I had wanted to go back to teaching public school for sometime. So once again, I prayed about it and God sent me right were he wanted me and I am very happy. When we follow God's plan for us, life can be great. So here I am 36 years old, coming up on the anniversary of my mom's passing with my now 4 year old and 2 year old. We made it through Christmas, yes it was tough at times. At one point I held a whole chocolate pie in my hands and thought...boy if I could eat you, you would be mine. Luckly, thanks to my band I only had one piece. Well, I am doing well, my dad and the rest of my family is doing pretty well and life goes on. I am planning on making the best of it. I have lost nearly 40 pounds and love it. I do feel as though I need another fill. So I will check into that. Good luck fellow bandsters. Lucy

Oh gosh, you just gave me a good laugh and I mean that in the nicest way. Just the visual of a tire coming out of your ass, cracks me up! I am one of those people who can laugh about her weight with those who I love and know where I'm coming from. Thanks for the great story, Love ya

What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!
lucyavery replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know nothing can hurt us more as parents than seeing our own children hurting...that's the worst. Right now my children are 2 and 4, so I hope to be a slim hot mommy before they and thier friends take notice. My four year old did ask me one day why did I have a big belly. I told her it was because her and her sister used to be in there, that's the truth:redface: -
5-10 things you wished you had bought PreOp
lucyavery replied to itschoice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi and good luck, I would say you may need some sort of stool softner. When you go back to work take a water bottle to sip on, a pillow to sit down with and yes loose comfy pants. I am a teacher as well but had my surgery back in the summer. I will tell you that I am thankful that I have a bathroom in my classroom. It comes in handy when food wants to come back up. Just be careful and take your time. I have one 8th grade class for Career Orientation and the rest are High School, FACS. Take care -
What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!
lucyavery replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't think of too many rude things. I'm sure they have been said, but I do live in La La land and tend to see the good in everyone. My husband tells me that just one day, he would love to wake up in my world, lol. I can think of one time after having my 1st baby in 2004, I weighed about 215. I was sitting in a doctors office waiting on my mom. I had my daughter with me, she was about 3 months old. I was talking to a lady, about the new baby and such. She said, "well, she sure is a pretty baby, just don't let her get to fat." What?!? Just because I'm fat, I'm going to let my baby get fat. BTW, she is 4 now and skinny as a bean pole. I have had someone ask me before if I was pregnant, when I wasn't. It did not bother me too much. I just brused it off. I can't believe how many of you have had rude comments made by family members, I'm so sorry. My family is everything to me. My brother who I love dearly and is not skinny, but only about 30 pounds overweight made a comment one time that my DH has trouble getting over, but we often laugh about it. My brother was splitting from his first wife and told my DH, no offense to Lucy or Mom, but I'm tired of fat as_es. So he was acknowledging that his sister and mom had a big behind, as well as his wife, and he was tired of hers. My DH still likes to bring that up from time to time. My brother also was looking at some old pictures the other day, and showing them to my dad's girlfriend. He said "oh, there is my sister, see her face". Uh hello, I'm also sitting right here, here is my face. I love him and know he means well. -

I hope you and your mom are working things out. My mom and I fussed and argued like most mothers and daughters but she was always there for me. I lost her nearly a year ago and I cry from the pain nearly every day. I wish you both the best. -
slowly talking myself out of getting a fill
lucyavery replied to confusedfairy509's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh, I see. My husband is the same way. I am sorry, I feel for you. I know the fills are not fun by any means I'm not even scared of needles. When I have mine I close my eyes and there is usually a nice nurse that holds my hand or rubs my forehead that seems to help. So yes it is unplesant, but it is worth it in the end for me it is anyway. I have been debating on needing another fill or not. My last one was Oct 8th, but I have about decided that I do need one. Good luck to you, lucy -
slowly talking myself out of getting a fill

What are you scared of? -
Well, I had tried all the diets and could only manage to stay on them for a week, two if I was lucky...then what little I lost would come back on then some. I was so tired of being fat and went to see a dietician. I was able to stay on the diet she put me on for 3 days, yes 3 days. I was so discouraged and disappointed in myself. I knew something had to change. I had talked to my husband about the lap-band before, and after talking to a family member I brought it up to him again and this time he gave me the go ahead. I am so happy to have my band and my new life....no looking back now.

I know compliments for me can be hard also. I always feel the need to explain or point out what is still wrong with me. However, I saw my SIL over Christmas, and she told me that I looked good and I simply said "Thank You" and that was it, that was enough. I did not go into explaining things and it felt great. Of course there will always be those that go on to ask questions of you, then you just do what makes you comfortable. Congrats on the weight loss.

Question for all you Banders or Non Banders :)
lucyavery replied to AudsMom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Could I have lost almost 60 pounds without my band? Honestly, I could have . . . but I know I WOULDN'T have. Well stated, San Diego. I can't tell you how many times I lost a few pounds and gained it back then some. You all know what I'm talking about. With the band I have done nothing but go down, and there is no way in H_ll, I'm letting myself, emphasis on MYSELF put it back on. -

Great to find like minded peoplel
lucyavery replied to kevincampar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Kevin, I had to laugh as well because my husband was looking over my shoulder reading some post the other night and said "banded" who talks like that, what are ya'll a bunch of cattle....of course he meant that in a lovingly way. Hey, I am from the great state of Arkansas as well. Who did your surgery? My Doctor is Dr. Luttrell, I really like him. I e-mailed his office today, because I think I am needing another fill myself. So do tell...how much have you lost? Do you love your band? I love mine and I am greatful for the chance to change my life. Keep in touch, -

Jennifer, congrats on the band. I have found that I have to slow down and chew my food really good or I have problems. Good Luck, -
Mother and Daughter Duo
lucyavery replied to himynameisbob77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, I think it is great that your daughter has you in the boat as her, if you know what I mean. At least you can understand each other and offer support. Good luck to both of you and try not to compare yourselves to each other. Sounds like you both will do great. -
is this typical? NO restriction at all
lucyavery replied to kplant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did not feel restriction untill my 3rd fill. It is different for everyone. Probably the reason your muffin came back up is because (1) it was morning time and (2) it was a muffin..to dense. I cannot eat anything untill about 10 or 11 in the morning after my band wakes up. Good luck to you, Lucy -
Hi all! Newly banded on 12/17/2008!!!
lucyavery replied to GretaBelle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, it takes a while to get your feet back under you. I know it did for me. I was up and and around, and did very well after my surgery. I went back to work thinking all was good, but after a few hours felt totally drained so I went home and to bed. It took me a good two weeks to feel normal agian. Except for that darn shoulder pain...but it finally passed. lucy -
