Thank you for all your messages, I think I will keep it to myself, for now. I remember when I went to the dentist, the assistant ask if I had any changes and I told her that I had lap band surgery, not sure if they had to know. Well the overweight girl started telling me about her friend that wanted to get surgery and how if she only would eat right and not eat fast food, she could lose weight. I just wanted to tell her maybe you should think about eating less or weight loss surgery. I went home and told my husband that is why I'm glad I told no one. I have lost 69lbs so far and I know it has not been easy and takes alot of will power. I also know that people that are not overweight don't understand why weight loss surgery is not a easy way out.

I told only a few people about my surgery because I did not want to be ask hundreds of questions and be under a microscope about everything I eat. Now that I have lost 63lbs everyone is telling me how good I look and ask how i'm doing it. I always say exercise and eating less, which is true, but I feel guilty and think I should tell about my band. I really don't what to do

I was banded on 3/4/09 and had my first fill (2c) 4/17/09. I went back to the dr 6 weeks later and I lost 12lbs, so he left it up to me if I wanted a fill or not. I decided I did not need one, I eat almost everything and I get full much faster. I watch what I eat, no breads, sweets, or snacks. Only sugar free items. I exercise daily 20-30minutes. I go back to the dr 7/21 and I have already lost 12lbs. My first fill hurt so I'm determined only has a last resort I will get another one. So far its working! I keep telling myself the band is a tool and I have to do my part to keep losing weight. As of today I'm down 54lbs, I feel great

I only told a few people, husband, mom and kids. Only three people at work know and I am so happy that's all . I'm three months out and when someone asks if I'm losing weight or whats my secret. I say working out and cutting out snacks, sweets and bread. I'm telling the truth. A guy in my office started a diet with 3 others and today when he was eating something, the manager said to him "Should you be eating that" He went into this long statement about, he did'nt have breakfast and he only had one. I felt so sorry for him and I told the girl thats sits next to me, that is why I'm glad no one knows. I don't want to be watched every minute at work.

Surprise at surgeons office today, I have a Realize band
dbeers posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went for my first check up since my surgery on 3/4. Everything is going really good and I feel better everyday. When I had my appointment with the surgeon back in Dec, I told him I wanted a lap band, not realize. I found out today to my surprise, I have a realize band. It was not the surgeon that operated on me and when I ask why I did not get a lap band, he came up with a story about different body types and the port. He also said unless a patient asks only for a certain type of band, it is up to the surgeon. I told him I did say what I wanted. I could tell he was trying to avoid the subject and told me I will have to talk to my surgeon at my next appointment. I also said it is now to late. I was very upset when I left his office but I keep thinking I'm thankful I could have this done. Please tell me I will be happy with a realize band. (not that I have any choice) -
Everything was going very good, not much pain, healing well and feeling good. I went back to work Monday, tired but doing ok. Today at work I feel something running down my belly, and to my surprise it is blood. The incision by the port opened up a little and it is bleeding. I was very scared and called the dr and I have a appointment Wed. The nurse said it is probably a infection. Has anyone else had this happen and is it going to cause me major problems.

Banded 3/4, infection by port
dbeers replied to dbeers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the dr today and everything is ok. I do not have a infection but they told me that I have a hematoma (not sure spelled right). They said it has worked it way out and this is causing the bleeding. They gave me pills to help prevent a infection. If I have anymore problems I should call them ASAP. I do not have any redness or tenderness near the port area. I also do not have a fever. I ask if it was something I did, because my husband said "You went back to work to soon, and were you lifting something to heavy" Which I was not and I felt really good except being tired and I did go the sleep early. They told me it was not me so I cannot wait to tell me husband when he gets home tonight, it was not my fault. -
Am I just weird.....got banded Wed, 3/4...

I was also banded on the 4th also. I'm feeling the same way as you. I did not have much pain and I tryed to keep moving to help with the gas. Thursday I slept almost all day. Friday I took my dog for a short walk and had to take a nap. I'm taking it easy, yesterday I cleaned my bathroom and rested, dusted my house, rested and cleaned the kitchen and rested again. I think now is the time to heal. -
Tough Times in Memphis

I was also banded on the 4th. I have felt pretty good, I do have a lot of gas and thankfully it is coming out. I also have been trying to sip my drinks. Not sure how long it takes to drink anything. I'm afraid of drinking to fast and getting sick, but it seems to be going down ok. I don't have any hunger pains, but starting today I'm want to get has much protein as I can. Best of luck -
Banded 3/4, thanks for all the support
dbeers posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just want to thank everyone for all their support. I posted a message on 3/3 about how scared I was about this surgery. There were many kind words that helped me. Well my surgery went very good, my doctor likes everyone to stay overnight so I came home Thursday. I feel pretty good. I'm trying to walk to help with the gas pains. Taking pain meds and gas x strips. Drinking and eating is going ok, no hunger. Thanks again!!! -
I've finally have reached the point of getting lap band and I am so scared. I have been crying on and off since I came home from work. I talked to my Mom and I can tell she is worried about me and that makes me cry. I was not going to tell her because I knew she would worry, but my family keep saying "you better tell her, what if she calls, that will be really bad" I keep thinking what if something goes wrong, what if I have major complications. I'm crying has I'm writing this message. I am ready to get it done, but right now I wish it was over. Thanks for letting me vent

Those of us who have decided not to tell.
dbeers replied to Lady Lap Band's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only people that knew in the beginning was my husband and kids. I still have not told my Mom because she will worry to much. I'm having my surgery on March 4 and last week I had to tell people at work I was going out. I told the HR directors I was having weight loss surgery but also told them I was not planning on telling anyone. They told me that it is my choice and wished me luck. I had to tell another person I sit next too because another employee that had lap band done last year knew I was having it done and he ask me right in front of her when my date was. "BIG MOUTH" I saw him at a group meeting and ask him not to tell anyone. I hope they both keep their mouths shut, because I have told everyone else I'm having hernia surgery. I like to keep this private -
I don't want anyone at work to know I'm having surgery. I've heard them talk about another person that had lap band surgery. Sometimes it is not very nice. I've been leaving work early and using vacation day's to attend classes the last 6 months always saying I had dr appointments. I ran into the guy from work that had lap band surgery at one of the information sessions. I ask him not to tell anyone and last week he ask me right in front of another co-worker when my date was. So I had to tell her and also ask her not to tell anyone. I'm planning on telling everyone I had surgery for a hernia, and only tell the HR director the truth. I'm a receptionist at the front desk so everyone will know I'm not there, also because I never miss any work. Let me know what you told everyone

what to tell people at work
dbeers replied to dbeers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to thank everyone for all the great suggestions. One of the problems I have with telling people at work is they do not understand what lap band really is. The woman that I had to tell at work, told me I will do much better then the other man because he does not have will power. He has lost 80lbs in 7 months, I told her that you lose much slower with lap band, not like other weight loss surgery where you lose very fast. I also said he was doing great. I don't want to have to explain everytime someone tells me about someone they know that had weight loss surgery. I guess I don't want to be under a micro-scope. I'm a very private person -
