  1. It sounds like you are already on the right track, you are asking what you can do to help her. My husband has been the greatest since I had my surgery. He never watches what I eat or tells me not to eat something that is bad for my diet, because over Christmas I have been bad. I also only told a few people about my surgery in the beginning. Over the last few months I have told a few more, but I'm still very limited on who I want to know. People can be very judgemental and I do not want to deal with there comments, I did not tell my own sister for that reason. I wish your wife the best of luck and she is very lucky to have your support.
  2. Every year I make the same resolutions, "lose weight" This year I plan to make my goal weight and work out 5-7 times a week This is the first year I no I will do it!!
  3. I started to lose hair around 3-4 months and I have very thin hair. I was worried every time I washed my hair and had to clean out the drain. It finally slowed down around 8 months. I think it is now back to normal.

    Weightloss Challenge

Sorry to say I did not lose anything this week, but my husband and I got a treadmill for our Christmas gift and I started using it on the 26th. I will check in next week
  5. I did read the OP and like I posted the first time, I'm much older then her and hopefully more mature. I have a 26yr old daughter and sometimes she says things that makes me think, who's kid are you. Hopefully all the comments posted will help her look at things different. She has just started the process and has no clue what the future will bring for her. She only lost a few pounds, which is great but it is a long road. Many ups and downs and a lot of hard work. I do wish her the best and hope she reads all the posts.
  6. Maybe because I'm much older then you and have been fat most of my life, I have much sympathy for overweight people. I know how hard it is to do normal everyday things. When I see someone that is big I wish I could tell them to check out getting lap band surgery. I know how hard it is to lose weight and harder to keep it off. One thing that has changed for me is I can't watch people eat large amounts of food and eat fast. That is disgusting to me, but I do remember I used to eat that much food too. Also when you say fat people are dirty and smell, I have meet many skinny people that could use a good cleaning also. Don't forget where you started!!!

    Weightloss Challenge

I would like to start the Valentine challenge. I was in the christmas one and it helped me lose 9lbs, I did'nt reach my goal, but I lost weight every week. I would like to lose 16lbs by 2/14/10. That would make my weight 189 which means I lost 100lbs. I will check in every Monday, good luck to everyone
  8. I lost a total of 9lbs, I did not reach my goal, but I'm happy I lost weight everyweek since I started this challenge.
  9. I lost 2lb this week, starting 214, current 206:thumbup:
  10. I lost 2lbs this week and I'm so happy. I thought that Thanksgiving holiday would catch up to me this week, but I'm still losing. The next few weeks will be hard with Christmas and all the sweets and good food around. Good luck to everyone, I know the support is helping me!!!
  11. I can't believe it but I lost 1lb this week. I did eat everything but much smaller portions. I very surprised and really happy! Total 4lbs since the start
  12. I never had a c-section so I don't know what that pain is like, but I did have a 9lb baby without any pain medicine and 15hr labor. My son is 21yrs old and I have not forgot how much that hurt. My lapband was nothing compared to childbirth. My dr gave me two large bottles and one small bottle of pain medicine and I only used half of the small bottle. By the third day I only took over the counter meds. I did have gas pains but it was only minor discomfort but I also walked as much as I could. I had my gall bladder out a few years ago and this was about the same. I must say that the first weeks back to work were very hard for me, because I have a desk job and sitting all day, was terrible. Everyone is different because I know someone that had their surgery a week before me and she had to same dr, but had to call to get more pain meds.
  13. I lost 2lbs this week, a total of 3 so far. I have 11 more to go, it will be hard this week with Thanksgiving. It really helps when I read how good everyone else is doing.
  14. I also received a card from my dr, but I have never used it. I order from the regular menu and take half of it home. Since most kids items are the same, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, pasta with one meatball, I really don't want to eat that anyway. I have never had a problem finding something to get when I go out. I now look for smaller items, unlike before when I wanted soup, salad, entree and dessert.
  15. I lost 1lb this week, I have 13 to go. That is about average for me, I'm happy because this past weekend we went to visit my son at college and ate at the cheesecake factory. I ate a half of piece of cheesecake has a treat and it was so good.
  16. I went to the dr last Wed and I told them I want to be at 200 by the new year. So I'm in and I will try my hardest to lose 14lbs. I have been losing about 1lb a week and over the holidays it will be really hard, but I can do it.:tongue2:
  17. I also only told a few people and they have been very supportive. The first few months no one noticed I was losing weight. I was wearing the same clothes, just getting bigger. It was around Labor day when I had to buy new clothes. That is when everyone was surprised at how much weight I had lost. I told them I was not eating bread, sweets and junk food. I also said I got a WII and was excising almost everyday 20-30 minutes. I should get commission on every wii that was bought because of me. Well everything I said is true, I only never mention I had lap band surgery.
  18. I'm 8 months out and I have to tell you it does take time. Like many others have said you will miss food. The first few months were the worst for me, I was a big sweet eater. I would go grocery shopping and walk around the bakery for 5 minutes, walk away, come back, walk away, come back. I had to tell myself "YOU HAVE WORKED TO HARD TO GET HERE" don't blow it and I would not buy anything. About 2 months after my surgery I remember telling my husband, a man that has never liked sweets and has no trouble losing weight, how hard it was for me. It's funny but now I do not want to eat sweets, breads and junk food. I never thought that would happen to me, but my body has changed so much. This is the best thing I have ever did for myself and I wish you the best of luck.
  19. I only told my husband, kids and mom. I did not tell my sister because she is very judge mental. Even now when I see her she is always asking how much weight I have lost, what size clothes I'm wearing. I know it bothers her that I'm losing weight. She is always talking about a woman at our church that had lap band surgery, I just smile and say I don't really know much about that. I decided early on that I did not want to be under a micro scope. I had planned on telling no one at work except the personnel manager but I ran into someone I work with at a support meeting. I ask him not to say anything and for the last 7 months he has been quiet. Sometimes I would like to talk about my surgery, when someone tells me how good I look, but I'm still afraid it will be a big mistake.

    first fill

I was banded on March 4 and had my first fill April 17. I was very surprised in how much it hurt. When I came home I told my husband that I will try my hardest to lose weight and follow all the rules so I don't have to get another fill. Well I have been doing great and every time I have gone back to the dr they leave it up to me if I want a fill and I say "NO THANKS" They don't argue because every time I have lost 2-3 lbs a week. I feel I'm doing fine with only one fill, If I start to have trouble controlling my food, I will get another one. So far so good!
  21. I was banded on March 4 and have been doing very well. I had one fill 3cc back in April and have not had one since. I continue to lose weight so the dr feels I do not need another one. It started about 6 weeks ago having a burning feeling around where my band is. I was to the dr 3 weeks ago and they told me to take over to counter ant-acid pills to see if it helps. They told me that it is not because I'm overfilled. They also want me to come back in a month and if it is not better they will do more tests. I started taking Pepci AC and it worked great the first week or so, but the last two days the pain is coming back. The pain is not bad just a very light burning feeling and it worries me. I'm not throwing up and I can eat with no problems. Afraid my band has slipped. I never really had heart burn so not sure if this is what it is. Anyone else have this problem.
  22. I had surgery on Wed, March 4 and returned to work Monday, March 16. I could not of returned sooner because I spend a lot of time running to the bathroom the first week. The first two weeks I returned to work were awful, I had terrible gas pains in my right shoulder and it was hard to sit all day. I would try to walk has much a possible. Don't rush it!

    wls before surgery?

I had to go on a 6 month program. I only lost 6lbs and I lost that the first month. They told me that as long as I do not gain a lot of weight my insurance company's will approve me. I live in PA and have capital blue cross. I was approved right away no problems, but my dr's office makes sure all the paperwork and requirements are met before they even will contact your insurance.
  24. I to would wait. I was banded 7months ago and only had one fill. Every time I go to the dr I have been losing weight so he lets it up to me if I want a fill or not. I also think if everything is working let it alone. My dr is always happy with my progress and says I'm losing at a good rate. 1-2lbs a week
  25. When I had my surgery in March I decided not to tell many people. Only my husband, kids and mom. I only told 3 people at work because I did not want to deal with all the comments and have everyone watching everything I ate. Well in the beginning it was easy because no one knew I was on a diet. I'm losing weight slow so no one really noticed. But the few last month I had to buy new clothes, because I could not sew my old ones in anymore. Well everyone now tells me how great I look and asks what I doing. I always say eating no bread, sweets and exercising, which is all true. The problem is I feel so guilty and don't know what to do. I'm afraid if I tell the truth I will be sorry. Even if I say it is very hard I know they will not understand. I did not even tell my sister because she is so judge mental and I don't want to hear all her comments. I know if I tell the right person at work it will get around like wild fire. Is there anyone that kept it a secret
