By "new," I mean "new" to me. -
Mcteri, I'm right there with you girl. I lost about 50 in the first 8 months post op, then nothing. That was four years ago. In the last year I've started to creep a little back on. I have just made up my mind to get my act together and get back on track. I moved 6 months ago, and joined the YMCA recently. I've made a commitment to go 4 times a week. I love spin class, and agree the seat kills my butt! However, I feel so good after and have a good time doing it. I also began using My Fitness Pal asking several bangers from this site to be my friend there. It definitely had help keep me accountable and honest. I've lost 6lbs in 2 weeks! I completely abandoned Protein shakes, and also started have 1 to 2 a day. I forgot how much they help with appetite control. There are wonderful recipes here.

Against my dr's advice and my better judgement, I started drinking A LOT of soda about 6 months post op. It's probably not my only bad habit to hinder my weight-loss, but I believe the return of this old habit gave me the stupid "red light" to return to other unhealthy eating habits. Be warned. As for my capability to drink carbonated beverages, the gas as a result is no fun. Especially in a social setting. Often I did have pain as a result too. The worst is Diet Dr. Pepper, sorry.

I've been banded for about 4 years. I truly struggle with my daily diet. you know, what to eat, what not to eat? I have no problems taking my Protein shakes, it's really just a problem planning regular meals. I typically get stuck with any kind of meats (with the exception of ground turkey). Soups either are too high in calories or unsatisfying. Call me crazy, buy prefer to chew my food. Yogurt and puddings are not constantly on my grocery list. So, my question is: what do you typically eat in a day? recipes are welcome (with the understanding I can't eat chicken ect.). I call that "dinner and a show!"

Thank you all!! These are great suggests, even some I've abandoned and forgot.

Today is a new day. I LOVE my band, but I haven't been using it properly. I have very good restriction. Problem: I've realized I can eat large portions of very unhealthy foods. In particular...pizza rolls! (I feel so disgusted when I admit this) For crying out loud, what's wrong with me! I'm an intelligent women who had WEIGHT LOSS surgery, only to sabotage my success. I have been successful by losing 40lbs, I know that. However, I have a ton more to lose. I had my surgery nearly three years ago, and haven't lost one pound in the last two years! It's time for a change! Hence the brand new day. Today, after running through my kickboxing routine and spending some time with my treadmill, I am having one scrambled egg for Breakfast, followed by a delicious Protein shake. (haven't had one of those in a very long time) I am making my lunch in advance!!! A small tuna salad with dressing on the side...yum! One hour later I will continue to sip on ice cold Water, because today I'm taking a liter bottle of water with me, in a refillable container. Before dinner, I will refill my liter of water and place it in the freezer. It will be nice and cold by the time I'm ready for it. I bought some frozen parmesan crusted tilapia from Sam's club about a month ago...it's about time I warm that yummy goodness up. I'll eat one fillet with creamed cauliflower. I may be short on protein. I'll have to take a closer look. In that case, I will just have to choke down either another small Protein Shake or stick of string cheese, darn it! I apologize if my details annoyed anyone. You may not care. By doing this I've made myself accountable to YOU. Today, I make a promise to you [and me] that I will treat myself like I'm worth a healthy body, from this day forward. I love me! Here's to our success! Love, Barbie Girl

You are experiencing exactly the same thing I am. I can't eat any chicken prepared any way, not even turkey! I haven't eaten steak since the surger, but was never a fan. Pork is very painful for me. I haven't had trouble with ground beef until last night. It made the second night in a row that I got stuck during dinner and ended up just skipping it. I did have a Protein shake once I felt better...just before bed. I HATE fish. However, I've found that I can eat canned tuna with relish and light mayo to cover the fishy taste. I'm full 6.75 cc, the last fill was 10/2. Since the last fill the meat tolerance is worse, but I'm down 6lbs. It also seems the "wetter" (I know that sounds gross) the meat is the easier it goes down. Try cooking your meats in a crockpot. Just remember if you can't get the meats in, drink the shake...or eat the bars! It won't be forever. I was banded November 4, 2008 and have lost a total of 56lbs. I was stalled for about 5 months with no weight loss. I knew then I was eating too much, but wasn't ready to face the music until July. I got back on track and have lost a total of 20lbs since then, after a small gain. I'm back in the gym and really feel better than ever. I now weigh less than I did before my first pregnancy ( I have 2 in 10 years). 14 more lbs until I'm under 200!!! I recently have been receiving the compliments now and that helps tremendously! Don't give up, just get creative!

I had my surgery November 4th. I've had three fills, I might actually be too tight, but I'm not have an unfill. Meaning, I am limited on the type of food I eat(gets stuck), but I'm concerned about the quanity I can eat (sometimes up to 12 oz). I've lost about 42 lbs total. I've only lost 6lbs since January. So it came off very fast at first, then almost nothing. I exercise my booty off, 3-6 times a week! The dietician's only advise is to weigh my meals before I eat. Well, dietician, I would in a perfect world, but I work 60 hours a week and am a mom of two boys... 6 and 10...fun ages! Needless to say I eat out alot. I make good decisions, most often soups because their safe. But, I'm not going to lie and say that I'm always good. I haven't had any breads, read meat, or fried foods since the surgery. I was a stress eater and still am. The lapband can't fix everything. I'm asking for anyone whose been at a serious plateau to give me some advise. I'm at the point where I'm discouraged. Obviously, I've asked the dr office for help and got absolutely nothing that was of any use. I just want to note that I am not the person who asks for help, it takes a lot. I love the band, my life has changed so much, but I really want to need to loose the rest of the weight.

protein shakes
Barbie Girl replied to susanthomas-pate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
EAS "Soy" protien shake mixed with 1% milk is the only protien shake I can tolerate. I can not stand the taste of any whey protien powder. In a 32 oz shaker I fill it with milk and add 2 scoops of protein. I get around 64 grams of protein first thing everyday. I love the taste. If you would like to try, I found it at Walmart (in a small container). You can also find a different brand that isn't bad at GNC...more for your money. -

Not everyone is a psycologist, but I do believe that our coworkers/friends are just trying to be supportive. If they care, they usually just want to tell you you are o.k. in their eyes. Some may be jealous, but for the most part it sounds like they just care. Also keep in mind that you have started disappearing before their eyes. If you haven't told them you were banded, why wouldn't some be concerened? I agree it's not everyone business, but let's give people the benefit of the doubt. -
50 lbs down and wearing same pants. Why?
Barbie Girl replied to als74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5'4 and started at 269 in a size 22. I was banded in November and am down 42lbs. I just bought a size 16 pair of capris! I exersise at least 4 times a week, mostly cardio. Almost immediatley after surgery I was able to wear some size 20s...and still am to be honest. However, when I buy new clothes, which is more than I need to be, I try on at least 3 different sizes of the items I want (I'm just so excited). I suggest measuring your waist and hips. I could be that you are losing in other areas, like your chest or legs. They say a womens chest is the first to go...they are correct! -

I was banded on November 4th. I just had my 3rd fill on Monday (2/23). As of this morning ( I only weigh in once a week ), I've lost 42 lbs. This last fill seems to have given me the right restriction, but I've pb'ed 3 times since. I can't eat wraps anymore and no cutlet type meats :-(. Oh well...it's just trial and error. I work out at the Y at least 4 times a week with my husband. He loves the energy I have now. Even my 6 year old compliments me. I absolutely love the compliments. On November 4th, I weighed 269, now I'm 227. I now weigh less than I have in 10 years!!! Good bye Lane Bryant!!! -
Can't worry about the past like this. You didn't get banded to be miserable. We are all here for these reasons. However, they didn't do surgery on our brains, did they? It's hard work and it'll be worth it!

Help! I need some encouragement...

I was banded on 11-4, I felt exactly the same way. However, I was addicted to Starbucks! I feel your pain! The headache goes away in about a week...everyday a little better. I felt like a big wimp taking the pain meds (as needed) until the day before yesterday. Even my husband was acting disappointed in me. Yesterday, I woke up and felt very little discomfort. It only took 11 days! Thank goodness I took 2 weeks off work. No way I could have worked last week. -

I can't believe it finally came. I was banded yesterday. I don't feel at all like I thought I thought I would. I guess I was expecting a change. I feel normal. Besides the tenderness in my belly and having no appetite, I can't tell a thing. I was released this afternoon and have done nothing but sleep. I was able to walk almost 3 miles right after surgery! For dinner tonight I had 2oz of Turkey broth and about 1/4 of a serving of sugar free pudding, and I'm stuffed! :smile2: -

me!!! November 4th!!! Can't wait!!! -
In my phyc review, I was also diagnosed as a binge eater. The dr made one of my requirements to read "Mindless Eating" (I'll give you more information if you would like). I read the book and quickly realized he was right. I too was angry at first, but approved anyway without any additional requirements. We are all here for one reason or another. Use the band as a tool to help you overcome this issue. It's so easy to get back to our old ways.

Hello, I am having my Lap Band surgery on November 4th, and I have 116 pounds to loose. It seems like it's taken forever to finally get here, and now I'm nervous. I'm sure everyone feels this way. After all my research and diets I've tried (and failed), I feel that I am making the best decision of my life. I realize it will be hard and inconvienent at first, but I obviously need a life change. I keep thinking of the clothing I'll be able to wear, the things I'll want to do, and the confidence I hope to gain... I can't wait!!! ...Bring it on.
