Don't compare ourselves to other people losing weight
Telly replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Julie, You are on your way and on the right path. You'll hit goal in no time. All we have is time anyway right? A year has passed me already and I don't know where it went. -
Eat well and add cardio. The scales will move. You have to exert. You will lose weight cutting down on food but the most important thing is "What exactly are you eating? Are you snacking alot and just not incorporating the snacking into your daily intake? Are you eating foods and spitting it out? Eating some and then spitting the rest out?" I have a friend who is banded, she doesn't live far from me. She's going through alot of this. She's not exercising. She's not losing and after a fill, her scales are still not dropping. Exercise, food portions, food choices and lots of water is the key to weight loss.

I'm 5ft 3inches and currently 179lbs. I am pushing for the goal weight of 135lbs. Will schedule a TT at 140-145lbs. That should knock off the final 5-10lbs. I've got 34lbs to go to get my surgery done.

Josette, The pee was horrid and very very yellow in hue. Even if I opened up my box of pills, the smell wreaked in my entire home.

DOC, I'm coming over to your house. I love the ocean and if you can see it from your windows then I love you too

I used to be an Herbalife taker. Back in 1998. I lost 15lbs on it, 7lbs the first week. Yes.. for me, it was like 22 pills (herbal..) I had to take a day and drink lots of water. It left me shaky and jittery, at the same time absolutely no appetite to eat. It worked for the time I took it. Co-workers around me noticed my weight loss .. I was about 105lbs after the loss. Eventually I began to sell it for about 1 month and sold over $3k worth of that stuff and made 60% profit on it. I stopped right away. Selling is not my bag. Gained the weight back too... went from 105 - 145lbs. Then got pregnant and that's all she wrote.

Pilates is unbelieveable!! Even with weight training, I feel muscles I never knew I had after using Pilates. You will surely feel it all in your forearms, upper arms, back, legs, butt, everywhere..even ankles.

Thank you kindly July5forMe:) for the compliments. I had surgery on a Tuesday and returned home on Friday night. I began biking that Saturday, the day after my return. 4 or 5 days later. I wasn't running, doing pushups or crunches mind you... rofl! I was just biking. It doesn't bother my port site. I don't feel that it effected me at all as far as pain goes. I did, however try to do a crunch about 2 weeks post op and it hurt like hell. Only 1 crunch and I was done. I felt 100% about 3 weeks post op. There was no stopping me. No port or incision pain and no gas pains. Walking is so wonderful and if you are just post op, that's really great that you are up and walking. You go girl! I can't wait to hear great things from you in the weeks and months to come. Check out the "Exercise Today" thread and post what you do for exercise daily. You can share what you are doing with other newbies as well as keep track of what you are doing and aren't doing. Was July 5th your banding day? If so congratulations! How are you feeling and wow you lost 10lbs already? That's pretty awesome! -

Hey Housecatgirl. Cool that you are able to workout and that you used to be a personal trainer or had personal training. Getting certified is my ultimate goal. I have quite a ways to go yet. Hmm, how much have I lost... well.. I was 240lbs and lost 5lbs right before pre-ops. I can't really say b/c right after my surgery I lost 9lbs in the first week there in Mexico. I believe I lost 9lbs solely due to the post-op liquid diet. I started to ride my bike the day after my return home. My doctor stated that I could begin to do low intensity exercise as soon as I felt ok to do so..and I did. I started with 6.5 miles per trip. It was all I could do b/c I was so heavy still and my rear hurt from prolonged sitting on a small little seat cushion . I bought a gel seat cover that cushions your booty more. It's wonderful!!!:clap2: Wal-Mart, $11.00USD I'd say I lost 52lbs biking, jogging/running/walking on home treadmill, weight training, arc trainer - elliptical (cardio machines at the gym)watching food portions and carving out greasy, fattening, high sodium, high carbs foods. NOT DIETING. I recently realized that if I don't get in a really good cardio workout or break a good sweat, I feel like I didn't do anything at all. I do have quite a ways to go yet. But I am impatient. I wanted the weight off the day after surgery already:mad: Housecatgirl, I hope I answered your question. If not, PM me and we can chat about it anytime:). If I don't hear from you, I wish you much success and I guarantee the gym hours you put in will definately be noticed. September is just around the corner. Oh also, they have childcare at most gyms so maybe you won't have to wait. A friend who is a personal trainer quotes... "Suit up and show up and good things will happen!":clap2: -
Don't compare ourselves to other people losing weight

Thank you Leila. What you said was extremely nice and encouraging. It gave me a boost in my step Thank you...can't say that enough. Thank you Warmmorning sun. You hit it on the nail. What I post in the "Exercise Today" thread is a journal of what I do. In the same respect, it gives other people ideas of what they can do for exercise..to switch things up. Some members had never heard of some of the things I do or other active members have done, so we share with one another what exactly it is, what it does for you and how to do it. It's sharing. Warmmorning sun, I'm glad you understand what we are doing. Thank you again and now I will move on. Hope everyone had a great weekend. -
You got it Lianna! 3.5 is really a good steady pace but.. say you can stay the same pace at 3.5 and if you up your incline to say.. 2.0 - 3.0 on the treadmill, you'll increase your resistance and up your heart rate, burning more calories. You'll feel the difference, so will your heart. You'd most likely get the same workout as a person walking hard at a pace of 4.5 - 5.0 with an increased incline. Today, I discovered something really funny. After the gym, I took my little girl to the park. She was running to the swings and I walked at the pace she was running and as she got ahead of me, my strides became longer and we were at the same pace again. I realized that I was walking as though I was on a treadmill. Was really cool how it felt like my turbo boosters kicked in..

Experienced Bandsters, what are your tricks of the trade?
Telly replied to ChicagoCoco's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I watched "Top Chef" for a few weeks post op :scared: Ok, what I do is not for everyone, I know ..I know! I exercise daily, taking off 1 day every other week. I DO NOT DIET! I don't consider carving out food dieting. I consider it a lifestyle change and my mind has been set to that mode. I have been closely watching food portions. I have overeaten a salad or two in my recent days where I would put in an entire can of albacore tuna and quarter of a bag of salad and have eaten the entire thing. (No I am not filled yet). I exercise 1.5 - 3 hours per day just b/c I want to. I will sometimes set the 3 hours to 3 separate times per day, such as an hour in the morning, hour at lunch and an hour right before bedtime. I alternate upper body, lower body, work on muscle groups and/or cardio, (lots and lots of cardio). I take in approximately 1,500 - 2,000 calories per day b/c of my workout regimine. My personal trainer said I should take in 3,200 - 3,500 calories per day :omg: . He said this b/c of what I'm doing. Says if I'm working out like a marathon runner then I need to eat like one. Marathon, body builders, etc take in 3,500 - 5,000 calories per day to keep up with their metabolism. I drink 64fl oz to 128fl oz of Water per day. Keeps me hydrated. I have a flexible schedule so I am able to do this.. yes I am employed, self-employed, thank the lord! -
Jachut, everything you just said! Everything down to the Ipod thing. I downloaded 4 new songs today and lemme tell ya.... the songs and the beats (usually pop or hip hop) make me run faster, workout harder and push more. Thanks for your post Jachut!

Don't compare ourselves to other people losing weight
Telly replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Julie, you are absolutely right. No one should compare themselves to others. What we do to lose the weight is what we do. If someone wishes to piggy back off of it and does it in the most healthy and health conscious way, then go for it. If you are referring to me as far as the 3x per day exercise..then your facts are right. I was told by a few trainers that cramming all of the workouts in at one single time is ok and good but if you spread it out ..morning, noon and night then you are making your body burn continuously all day long. Yes I am losing weight and losing it very fast. But I am losing it on my own terms. I refuse to have a fill for the simple fact that I am really trying to train my brain to manually stop overeating. I have overeaten several times and I didn't stop. I am working on that. Prior to all of the weight gain I was an athlete. I swam 5 - 10 miles per day, ran 1 - 2 hours per day and ate very well. I swam for my college, so what I am doing now is basically what I did then. So again, please don't compare yourselves to me. I am the exception to the rule (per Tricia's words). I do not use a thread to boast my stenuous exercise.. I have a thread that allows you to see what I do and what several other very active members do. Tricia_k for instance. She does hundreds, literally hundreds of leg lifts per day. She runs, does weight training at home and has lost alot of weight and she's very toned. I personally cannot do 500 leg lifts, but I can bike 35 miles. I can't compare myself to her. Her leg endurance with weights compared to mine is unparalled. DOC - swims miles upon miles per day. Niche - puts in nice hours at the gym several days per week, alternating upper body and lower body Jachut - Cardio queen ..she can put in 4 - 6 miles daily and there are several others I have not mentioned that do great things... but you get my point. I do find it offensive that you indirectly accuse me or whomever else of boasting a 3x's per day or a 3 hour a day exercise regimine. The tone is sarcastic and offensive to me. There is nothing wrong with working out 3 hours per day. Practical to everyone?? No, but then again, don't compare yourself to anyone else on here. And yes, I will stand by the fact that if I can do it, so can you attitude. It's all attitude and not fact stating. It's just gung-ho attitude that keeps me going. -
Sounds like an excellent plan. Keep yourself busy and not bored with the same routine. That's how I do it to keep me excited. Keep on keepin on Jac...
