  1. You know, I'm at 8cc in a 10 cc band. I don't feel any restriction at all. I'm stuck in a plateau... am back on metformin 2 times a day for diabetes and now on lantus at night due to morning highs... My doc tells me that the metformin won't cause weight gain and the lantus is such a low dose, that it should not be affecting my weight loss.... All I know is that within a week of going back on the metformin... I've lost only 4 lbs... and that was 6 months ago. I'm very frustrated... Any ideas out there?
  2. Can you tell me a typical days meal that equals 800 calories?

Clempier: I've been diabetic for 15 years now. I was not on insulin, but several medications... too many and could not lose weight because of the meds. After my surgery, my readings were normal. Then they started inching up and they put me on sliding scale insulin. Then they added 1000 mg of metformin 2 times a day. My weight loss stopped at that point. They've now taken me off the sliding scale insulin and put me on lantus at night and still the metformin. Am waiting to see if my weight loss starts up again. I tried to get my doc to take me off the metformin, but he said I needed it to protect my pancreas and in any case it would not affect weight loss... but it's sure funny that since I've started it, the weight loss has stopped. I have to say, if I had it to do over again, I still would do the surgery. I've lost 45 pounds and feel a whole lot better. I'm just disappointed that I seem to have just come to a screaching halt with the weight loss. Want to lose another 50 pounds. I have to add that every other person here that had surgery around the time I and were diabetic, are totally off their meds and insulin if they were on it.
  4. I've got a 10cc band. No fill at all until 8 weeks after surgery. and he put 2 cc's in then. Since then, I've had 3 fills with each being 1/2cc. I really need some help. Hope next weeks fill does better. Thanks
  5. How much is your doc putting in for a fill? Mine only does 1/2cc at a time.

Congratulations! You are doing great! My doc took me off the night time insulin... it wasn't doing enough anyway... and put me on metformin.. you aren't supposed to gain weight on that one I'm told. Still have to take a sliding scale insulin shot in the morning, but the rests of the time I'm great. Am down 40 lbs and 3 sizes at this point. Haven't hit my sweet spot yet for the fills, but hopefully will soon. Going to my regular doc this month.. and he'll do blood tests..Will find out how my a1c is at that point and go from there. Keep it up! You're doing great!
  7. I feel like my body and I have come to an agreement... I will try and it will allow me to lose. :w00t: That never worked before. Down 36 lbs and 3 sizes. Diabetes is well controlled and only taking 1 med. Hopefully will be off that one soon. Just had to give away a trunk full of clothes.. and still have 1/2 my closet to go thru. Buying as little as I can to get by at work. Go for my 3rd fill next week. Keep it up. We can do this!
  8. Thank you so much! I just wasn't wrapping my brain around it the right way. Good luck with your fill.
  9. Can you tell me what your typical diet is for a day? I can't figure out "no carbs" at all. thanks

Thanks. I go to my doc this Wed and have made an apt with the dietician for the same day. Don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but if so, she should be able to help me out. Several people have mentioned that perhaps the stress of having surgery was affecting my diabetes. Since the surgery was in November, I don't know. Just very disappointed. Really expected to be going down in meds... not getting on insulin and now 2 types of insulin. Don't know how you can lose when on insulin. Always thought it caused weight gain. Oh well, it is what it is and I guess I'll find out more on Wed.

Yes, I'm told that insulin causes weight gain. that's why I'm so upset. I was not on insulin and my sugars were in control... now everything is out of wack and I'm on 2 types of insulin. How are you taking the metformin? My dosage was 1000 2 times a day... Can you cut them in half or quarters?

I am so glad I found this site... I'm having the same problems that you guys are... I had my surgery Nov 18, 08. I was totally off my meds during the liquid phase and then as soon as I started eating solid food, everything has gone down hill. They put me on sliding scale insulin (novolog)... I test my sugar and do the shot according to my reading prior to my meal... just as they told me. My readings have now gotten to around 220 usually first thing in the morning... around 150 - 175 before lunch and dinner. By bedtime I'm usually around 100 and then in the morning back up to around 220. I don't know what else to do. I've never taken insulin before. This is certainly not what I expected. I'm 1/4 of the way to my goal weight, down 26 pounds... but seem to have hit a plateau since my first fill Jan 5. The rest of the problem is that I can't get enough protein without drinking protein shakes. They're low carb, hi protein... but they don't seem to have time to get out of my system before it's time for the next the next sugar test, shot and meal. I'm taking 12-14 units of novolog before breakfast when I'm around 120's... and then usually 5-7 units before lunch and dinner when my readings are around 150-170. I've spoken with my diabetic educator and she gave me a couple of ideas to try... and they didn't help. Have a call in to my internist today to see what else I should do. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi guys... I had my banding surgery Nov 18, 08... was on a lot of meds for diabetes. They put me on sliding scale insuling after the surgery... Started out ok... but now that I'm on regular foods, my sugars are going crazy. I was always between 80 and 120 with meds. Now I'm normally around 220 first thing in the morning and around 150 at lunch and dinner... then it starts going up again... Even when I've tried to take an extra insulin shot around 8 p.m. and a small snack... maybe I'll get to 100, which is great... but the next morning I'm back at 220 or so again! I'm very frustrated. I've lost 26 pounds since the surgery so far and this is not what I expected. I test my sugar prior to every meal and then take novolog, which I understand is a short acting insulin... But I'm getting worse, not better. I'm told that the more insulin I have to take, the worse my prospects are for losing.. and in fact seem to have hit a plateau since my first fill which was Jan 5. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I'm totally lost. :cursing::tongue:
  14. Good thinking! And congratulations on your loss so far.
  15. Great job you guys! I'm in a regular size 20 from a women's 22. I could go smaller in the waist, but the thighs haven't gotten the word yet, so I'm just baggy in the waist area. I too like the non scale victories... I can climb the stairs without getting winded, altho my knees still complain! I seem to have stalled out weight loss wise tho. I don't "feel" anything from my first fill. Just trying to watch what I eat... set myself a portion and put the rest away. I go for a 2nd fill on Feb 9. Keep it up guys!
  16. I got my first fill Monday... 3cc's. laid on a table and watched... very cool! I go back in 5 weeks... Good luck!
  17. Ebonyrose: What is the 5 day pouch test eating plan?
  18. Heather: I've missed the thread on fitness... can you point me in the right direction? Would like to see that thread. Thanks.
  19. I didn't have any feeling or side effect. Didn't hurt at all. Was cool to watch on the screen.
  20. I got my first fill yesterday. No problems at all! I got 3cc's too. Forgot to ask how large my band was. What type band did you get? I got Realize. I go back in a month for another fill. I have been starving for the past 1 1/2 weeks. Feel much better now. :tongue2:

    November 18th Banders

I've lost 26 pounds and was banded Nov 18. Seem to have hit a plateau, however, have not been exercising regularly. Going to start that again today and see if it won't jump start my loss again. Don't get my first fill til Jan 5.

My doc told me not to do heavy weights for 6 months. I can do light weights... I just don't know what movement will help tone my bat wings on my arms... And I'm doing the treadmill and the exercise bikes and stairs...
